The funny thing is, if she had just played dumb, she could have won the case. Without the defendant providing incontrovertible proof that she's a liar, there's no actual evidence that it was her cat. @Winky_ I'll give you an example though of why her benefit of doubt went out the window. In order to drive, there are stipulations you have to pass in order to drive. By you driving on any public roads, you are saying you have a license and insurance. Say I don't have insurance and get in a wreck. It is automatically my fault, and it doesn't matter if I caused it. I could have been hit, but because I took it upon myself to drive, I assume responsibility. She assumed more responsibility because she began spewing nothing but lies, it didn't matter if it was correct. She showed an attempt to deceive Judge Judy and that will never go over well in any civil court because many civil court cases are he said-she said cases. Once someone develops a pattern of lying, they lose all credibility.
