Is Nuno The Right Man? Forest Are Staying Up! Nottingham Forest 2-3 Chelsea Match Reaction

With Luton Town and Burnley both losing earlier in the day, Forest were all but guaranteed of survival heading into the evening match against Chelsea. And with goals from Boly and another beautiful strike from Callum Hudson-Odoi, it looked like Forest would survive in style. However two minutes of madness saw Chelsea turn it around and take all three points from the City Ground.
Another good performances returns no points at the City Ground yet again, but who is to blame for the late turnaround from Chelsea. Chris Wood yet again was misfiring in front of goal, and with Awoniyi now back to full fitness, should Taiwo start in the final game of the season next week against Burnley?

Another factor is unrealistic expectations. A squad of talented , but too young,too old , unproven and big club rejects alongside lower PL/Championship players are always likely to struggle.

I know it's hard to divorce yourself from results... but on performances Nuno has been solid. On expected points we are 12th according to Understat and top half according to football 365. We've got a style of play... the players know their roles... we are actually not conceding that much xGA per game either. Based on performances I'm comfortable with Nuno in charge, especially if he can recruit players who specifically fit his 4231 system. Get rid of the odd mistake at the back... and learn to be a bit more stoic when in the lead we'll be comfortably mid table.

I say we keep Nuno, he came in at a terrible time with afcon and psr. Also offensively we've improved so much I remember just before Cooper left we struggled to get a shot on goal, just need to stop switching off when taking the lead

I think if the club decide to stick with Nuno then we all move together and stand united, it’s the one thing we have over other clubs is that we generally have a united front. I loved Cooper and didn’t want to see him go but those days are done now and we need to move on. I think performances are looking good, just not quite getting the results, we have thrown away way too many games this season.

Forest are staying up, obviously, but it’s still important that they beat Burnley. No more about points, finance, deductions, PSR, FA corruption, VAR, poor refereeing, transfer deals, it’s purely a matter of football. Finally, for one game, Forest are now free to play FOR ITS OWN SAKE! As for Nuno, he’s great in preparation, but more energetic intervention and direction during the match might help; communicating with the fans is fine, but communicating with the players during the game is crucial.

1) get under the PSR. We’ve learnt two seasons in a row just how important even a single point is. 2)sell the players who are surplus to requirement to attempt to save key players. Nuno is more than good enough to take us to the next level. The stadium is a lower (but still important) priority.

An immediate priority is for Forest to identify which players are to be sold in June in order to meet PSR. Forest need to derive £25m-£30m in profits from the sale of players before the end of June in order to not breach PSR again. (Are Mangala and Worrall both going to become permanent moves? Who else do Forest want or need to sell? Can we manage to keep MGW and Murillo if we were instead to sell, say, Yates?) Other priority issues for June: - is Marinakis sticking with Nuno as manager for next season? (I'm fine with keeping him.) - which players do Forest want to give contract extensions to? (Aina. Boly maybe. Imo, release the rest of the other players whose contracts expire this summer.) - do Forest want to sign any of the loan players? I have a feeling this next season is the best chance we have to kick on into mid table. A few players still need to go but it seems we now have a core of 14 regular players. I wouldn’t keep a single loan player and I wouldn’t recall any we sent out, they need selling. Another keeper and a couple of experienced pros to mentor the young lads and we should be good.

Keep the manager, keep the stadium- it's iconic. Focus on who we sell and who we buy. Try to retain the current core of the squad. We have seen them improve and compete with the top6. We need maybe 2-3 additions that improve the starting 11, and maybe current starters drop to bench to improve subs quality. Key for me- still 6 and 8 pairing..upgraded cms should improve both our gf and GA. Sels good enough imo. Cull the excess gks, but no need to focus on a new #1.

I've been impressed with Glasner since taking over at CP, but Nuno has had to deal with ALOT from a biased PL, AFGON, PSR, erc. He'll do good next season, if left to manage a better/compact squad...sell the surplus deadwood to keep our best/key players, COYR ❤

Some people wont like me saying this but the football under Cooper since we've been in the PL was atrocious and I didnt enjoy watching us play at all. Under Nuno I've actually enjoyed the football in most of the games even when we've lost and yesterday we were the better side as we were against Man City. For me Nuno needs a preseason, a proper transfer window and at least 10 games and then see where we are. Then if we're still conceding from set pieces, hes still making poor subs and we're still struggling then by all means get rid of him but until then he needs backing as look what he did at Wolves. Difference yesterday was Chelsea took their chances and Poch's subs changed the game in sharp contrast to us. Give Nuno a chance and see what happens but if theres no improvement after 10 games next season then by all means make a change but lets judge him without AFCon, injuries, PSR and with his own squad

We need a manager with a strong character. Someone like Jose Mourinho. Someone that can scold MGW when he does his useless tricks and takes set-pieces. Like it or not, MGW's ego has cost us many points.

Nuno was brought in to keep us up and he's done that. Would've been safe last week if not for PSR. He needs judging after a full preseason, Summer window and 10 games

Since Nuno took over the results have continued to frustrate. The Chelsea game being the latest example. The only thing that could give Nuno any consideration is he will have a good clear run at the new season, unhindered and completely his way. The fact that old habits are still there, even with him at the helm, suggests things aren't as different as we all would want from a new manager. The Chelsea melt down is a sad reminder of something that is running through this team and we have seen it more times than we deserve as fans.

However, we try to 'dress this season up' it has been a bloody catastrophe. We've gone backwards in terms of results, and that can't be anything to see a positive in.... Possibly, we've played better in certain games, but we beat as many top sides last season... We've also drawn twice against the side that helped us over the line yesterday... And then there's Burnley, who will probably beat us, having drawn at the CG. If we finish on 29 points, it'll be a laughable return on investment. It's not even mediocrity. It's shit, pure and simple...

It's done. Forest biggest defeat away this season 0-3 to Liverpool, and Luton apart from a 4-0 win v's Brighton more normally win by 1 goal if thet win. Liverpool were flying and we had no front line that day, and Luton met Brighton when Brighton had dodgy form, so it's done. And on the beach or not, no professional team wants a hammering. They wont turn the goals around. That said I'd like to see the players go to Burnley and play for us. Stay up on points. The best business we can do is keep Murillo, and MGW. I'd like a solid defensive central midfielder. A Nicky Butt/Roy Keane enforcer type, or a N'golo Kante who can pass as well type. Though the latter works best on a 4-3-3/3-4-3. I think Omabamadele is a useful player who would benefit from a stronger midfield on our right side. He will be a good replacement for Boly eventually. So if we get just one player due to financial restrictions. That's where I'd start. Is there a good young Keeper lurking in the lower divisions/academies? It might be worth a good look around, but Sels is OK for another season at least. But I'd start the search. I'd want a dead ball specialist. I think I'd want a Striker too. We haven't seen much of Ribeiro, so pre season will be informative. But with MGW light on goals, I'd want a 15-20 goals plus man up front. All of our 3 front men have differing needs of delivery. Wood looks clumsy at times and isn't quick at sorting his feet out when in close, where Taiwo is. Wood wants a cross, and Taiwo a through ball. But injuries are also a concern. Finally I'd like someone to challenge MGW who has played better in my view with Reyna a threat. So what does Nuno want the team to look like going forward. Oh. Nuno in obviously. Duh! We need Nuno, and recruitment to talk. And we need recruitment to stop buying players they think Nuno might want. PSR=No scattergun approach. Targeted recruitment only please. Murillo for captain? or perhaps Aina, as Murillo tends to let his football do the talking. No disrespect to Yates who clearly is a fighter. And I thought he played OK against Chelsea. Throws himself into the fray defensively, and does at least have a pop from outside the box when a chance comes. But his distribution is poor at times, so no point winning the ball only to give it away again. I think he's a useful player to have, but needs a skills upgrade. That is up to him. When I view the squad overall I see it's no accident where we are. Add the points back on and win next week and we're 2 points less than last season. The reason is too many errors at the back, and not clinical enough up front to compensate. Last season it was a whole bunch of academy players, loanee, and rejects. This season it was a whole new team of similar misfits and a scattering of internationals. Sort out the back at least. If all the goals that came from errors this season were removed, We'd be near the top. (I'd have to go through every games highlights again to see exactly where). To do better on a budget we must focus on not conceding. It's also the easiest thing to fix, the cheapest thing to fix, and it gives the forward line more confidence to attack. I want 6/7 more points next season minimum (PSR reality check). More if possible. I think we're 4 quality players short of a top side (Think EURO conference not ECL). Finally to moderate expectations consider that I mentioned at the beginning of the season that 42/44 top 4 positions were filled by big 6 clubs. Now look at the league table. Aston Villa, Newcastle andthe big 6 fill the top 8 places. You can pretty much say Newcastle money more or less means big 7 clubs going forward. Those top 7 Euro spots were to keep the big 6 happy. That is the size of the task of developing into a top side. It wont be overnight, so just enjoy the ride. My word this armchair management is easy!!! My standards as a Forest fan is not to rely on 3 teams being worse than us, without that fact this yr we would be playing championship football next season. 29points!!! Even with the 4 back 33pts is terrible. Fans saying 'but he kept us up' ...no he didnt, the 3 other teams kept us up, just look at our results under nuno. Look at what Glasner at Palace, Iraola at Bournemouth are doing. Am i happy we stayed up.... of course. Have we deserved to stay up...no. Would Nuno still be at a job anywhere else....probably not!
