I've only tried the old 1920 and I really like it. However, if the new one really tastes like pineapple upside-down cake, I would say the new one is better.

I didn't realize they had changed the label. I unknowingly bought a bottle of the new label and thought I was crazy that it tasted like a different bourbon. It was missing some of the creamy fruity/tobacco tastes and I was getting more cinnamon. Y'all associate nuttiness with youth, but I can usually tell with cinnamon coming through on the palate. Good side-by-side. Thanks guys!

Thanks for putting this together guys...I think it's inevitable for batch variations from year to year. That can't be helped when nature is the deciding variable. I would say that to be completely scientific about this A/B taste test would be to have two unopened bottles "old" vs "new version to make a 100% fair comparison. I'm noticing the the older version used as the test subject is just over half full. The newer version has only had a few pours taken from the bottle. Could it be that a bit of oxidation has occurred in the old label bottle and that's what you're experiencing? I personally have experienced changes within the same bottle of any whisk(e)y. In any case, this is what you get with a NAS bottling...you don't know exactly what age is in the bottle. Even within the Wild Turkey range of standard bottlings, although they do state an age range, we will never know the precise blend of ages. 101 is a blend of 6 to 8 years, Rare Breed 6, 8, 12...but no percentages provided...and do we care really for that price point? What I do love about Wild Turkey is the fact they do make the age range available and that puts the sipper in that certain mood of what they're experiencing. While Old Forester tells us nothing about the age range in the bottle, I am super excited about the Whiskey Row Series with the story and history each bottle within the series is attempting to represent...pretty cool!

How the hell is he getting UPSIDE DOWN CAKE, and PINEAPPLE on C? WTF? I'm sipping it now, and I get NO pineapple. I'm getting VANILLA, and OAK on the nose. I'm getting MALT and NUTTINESS up front, and strong spices on the Palate....finish is hot, with TOASTED MARSHMALLOW, and tons of OAK. It literally tastes old... conjures images in me of Grandma's house, Grandparents love, and listening to stories of days gone by. Flavor combinations gives me images by connecting me with certain emotional ties.... And this whiskey makes me think of those ties. Love it!

I ordered a pour of 1920 at a restaurant one night. I had never had an OF product before. I was blown away by it. It didn't drink hot at all, and I got an odd but pleasant almost bubble gum note off of it. I could have been getting confused with banana. Anyway, I loved it so I ran out and bought a bottle a couple days later. Brought it home and it was like a totally different bourbon. It drank much more like the 115 proof it is - had a lot more burn to it. I also never got any banana or bubble gum notes. I liked it just fine, but I couldn't help but wonder if they brought me what I ordered at the restaurant. Now I'm wondering if maybe they had an old label bottle (mine was new label). Or maybe they poured me a different Old Forester. Anyway, I like the 1920... but I keep looking for what I got in the restaurant that night (could also have been the day and the pairing I guess).

Also have to account for how long the bottle has been opened. You get a 115 proof and base your assessment of first dram it will of course be hot. Once tmit oxidises and mellows is usually when it hits its sweet spot where you get those notes your after. This is why I think they got a large enough difference between old and new. Surprised they didn't address this

Maybe its because the older label bottle you guys had was opened for a while. The newer label was not. Sometimes I go back to a bottle that has been previously opened and it tastes different than a new one of the same.

I had a bottle of the old label, absolutely loved the first half of the bottle. After sitting for a while, something changed and there was almost an astringent quality to the taste, like if you've ever had Chloraseptic throat spray. It was so bad, I had to dump the last 3-4 pours. Has anyone else experienced this?
