Hey Matti, I think you can do street- fotography with any camera-system. BTW the handheld-High-Res mode on the OM-1 is very versatile. I can even take a selfy with 50MP and it‘s sharp. It also reduces noise a lot. Everytime I look at FF I am more convinced to stay with MFT. Nowadays you can create great images with any system. So I prefer small and light.

I love my Olympus gear (based around EM1-mark3), I have never found myself lacking IQ, and almost always have enough pixels...or if I didn't, then it's on me because I didn't do a good job in the capture. The noise up to ISO 800 is easy to deal with, even in a tight crop. The only thing I'm lusting after now is, now that Pentax has a monochrome K3, I would love an OM-1 monochrome! For the lenses...you'd have to really dig to find better lenses than the Olympus pro lenses, just about every niche is covered, and even the non-pro offerings are good enough to fill what few gaps remain.

In your case maybe the change doesn't have enough advantages. But you can go for street photography with a much smaller OM-1 kit than you can with your Sony. Even the body is smaller and lighter, but the lenses make the main difference. For me as I shoot mainly nature and landscape it was clear to go for the OM-1, considering the gain especially concerning the telephoto and macro lenses. Image quality in the narrow technical sense is better with the Sony, but in real life you don't need this quality -- the files of mFT are more than adequate for most purposes.
@mattisulanto

Thanks. I actually can't go much smaller than my Sony with the OM-1 for street. I can go a tad smaller, but not so much it would make much difference. If we talk about roughly equivalent lenses, that is.

@@mattisulanto If f/1.8 is fast enough you can go much smaller with mFT. And you still get less of depth of field than with f/4.0 of full frame. If you need f/1.2 yes mFT lenses like the PRO's from Olympus/OM, which are excellent, even concerning bokeh, are not really small and light, but still much smaller and more compact than f/1.2 and f/1.4 lenses for full frame. Concerning image quality most if not all of your clients will not see the difference between mFT and full frame, if you have exposed and developed the files correctly.

@@markusbolliger1527 Like I said, I can go a tad smaller, but not much. For example my Sony 40mm F2.5 weights 173g and the Oly 25mm F1.8 136g or the Oly 17mm F1.8 120g. About 40-50g difference there. The A7IV is 659g and the OM-1 is 599g. So roughly 100g difference with a lens and no big size difference either. Not a big deal to me. In my mind, A7IV is just the best camera currently, but I recently bought an E-M5 MkIII during a sale and I'm thinkg about selling my A7II. On paper you would think that A7II is better except for the video resolution but I just love how compact the EM5 with a prime lens is in comparison to the A7II with my 28-75mm and apart from that, I really like how smooth the Olympus is handled, it just works and does what I want it to (colors are better for me too). Maybe it is not your case because you are professional, but I think I can take all the pictures that I could think of using MFT as an amateur while having way cheaper and more compact lenses overall. The only real downside could be noise with high ISO, but that is much less of an issue these days with all the AI technology and sometimes there are pictures that you could not take handheld without such a great IBIS

I now use Olympus, the EM1 mkIII being my main camera. I also have an older Sony a7ii, which I hang on to in case I need a full frame camera, but it’s generally used with LensBaby lenses. The biggest reason why I don’t use my Sony much is because the lenses are too heavy for me. The Olympus lenses suit me perfectly, being small and light and perfect for travel. I think, and you certainly know what I mean, a difference, between the A7IV and the OM1, is in sensor rendition of images. I use both, FF and M43 and I find the images are slightly different, probably because the lens focal is halved in the M43. I generally prefer FF for portraits and M43 for landscapes. I also prefer the 3/4aspect ratio of the M43 to the 3/2 of the FF sensors: in know I can crop in post, but I'm a lazy person! 😁

I happen to have both cameras. One i would say is a fun camera and the other one is a work camera. No rolling shutter, ibis, handheld high res, fast readout speed, lighter lens, almost the same C-AF performance, the OM1 is a no brainer for me 90% of the time. BUT if you need to shoot individual portraiture, there is still a place for the Sony. There’s sth about longer focal length background compression that you just can’t replicate with M43 unless you are standing far away enough.

First of I would not change if I were him either. I have no experience with the OM1 so I wonder: can't portraits be shot with the handheld HiRes mode? I can understand that it would be quite something with flash etcetc. But if you do not use flash or if it does work out fine, is there anything that HH Hires could not do. I saw files with that mode on a GH6 and it was handsdown better than the standard 25 MP mode of that cam. Just incredible results but also...on a clock...I also understand Panasonic does use a 4/3 sensor but a different kind of hires mode.

Matti, that was a nice comparsion of the Sony and the OM-1. I currently have an Olympus OM-D EM1MkIII with the M Zuiko 12-40 and 12-100 Pro lenses that I mainly use for travel photography. I have been considering either moving to Sony or possibly upgrading to the OM-1, but replacing the 12-100 with an equivalent Sony lens would definitely be bigger and heavier, and I'm not sure that the difference in features between my current Olympus camera and the OM-1 make it worth spending the money. I had the Sony A7C, which was mostly great, but that little viewfinder wound up being too big a pain for me so I sold it after just a couple of months and went with the Olympus. No regrets.

Hi Matti. Nice video 👌. In terms of value for money, facilities, size, weight and ease of use the OM-1 is the best on the market particularly with my wildlife photography. However, Sony have one camera which has certain other facilities not found on the OM-1 and that is the a1. In my limited and amateur opinion the Sony a1 is the only Sony camera worth buying if you do wildlife photography and videography. As for the Sony lens the best versatile option for wildlife photography is the 100-400mm with x1.4 and x2.0 TCs. Unlike the other Sony long range telephotos this is a compact and relatively lightweight system giving a max reach of 800mm with the proviso and possible restriction of f11 at this focal length. The answer is to have both systems. Although OM Systems and micro 4/3rds is my primary system I have just bought a used Sony a1, 100-400mm lens and the TCs for a reasonable price. One final small comment is a friend has recently bought a Sony a7 mark V and 200-600mm system and is having problems shooting moving wildlife. For various reasons I am not surprised. Different models and makes of cameras and lenses are better at some types of photography and video work than others. Stay safe and well. Peace ✌️✌️😊

MFT seems to shine the most when they are compact, and as simple and clean in ergonomics as possible in a tight package. Olympus feels they are wildlife and birdie cameras, which they may well be, so maybe they can sell enough in that niche market. Panasonic believes in video, which is a good match for Panasonic, but I will miss the compact little GX rangefinders. Gone will be the roots -- the tiny MFT shooters, great for street and general / travel cameras. I am thinking that Fujifilm, Canon, Sony, and maybe Nikon will be the longer term winners, for most sales. APS-C and FF now have smaller and lighter gear available, with the only limit being for those using longer lenses, or wanting inexpensive IBIS cameras. All formats work for someone. Just my view, I guess, that the MFT will lose a lot of customers when the compact street and travel cameras fadeaway. Take care, Loren

I switched from A7iii and a6400 to first G9 and later added the GH6. Main reason wat IBIS. Workflow for video was much faster with the GH6 than each time setting up the a6400 on my Weebill gymbal. Despite the G9 being around for quite some time its IBIS is better than the a7iii. The GH6 is even better. Also the option to record 4 channels of audio with a dedicated monitoring button is just very convenient (it does require the XLR adapter which means no top handle). Added bonus which I didn't expect was the Panasonic touch menu which is still (despite its age) way ahead of Sony. Yes if I compare AF, the a6400 had the best then the a7iii and then the Panasonics especially subject tracking on the a6400. That being said I don't have any issues with the GH6 AF for video. Especially with the 9mm F1.7. Another bonus is the much more compact lenses on m4/3 and the lower weight. I actually brought my Pana 100-300mm on holiday because it's so convenient. The times I used my FF Sigma 150-600mm, I can still count on one hand so sold it. No point in keeping something that you hardly use. Lastly there's the cost of lenses - on m4/3 they tend to be a lot cheaper, especially used ones now that a lot of folks are selling their m4/3 gear. Yes image quality is better on FF and APSC (only if you - needlessly - start to zoom in) but as long as you don't intend to print giant posters m4/3 is good enough. So contrary to a lot of folks I made the transition from FF (and APSC) to m4/3 and don't regret it to this day. I reccently got a second hand 35-100mm F2.8 (one that was a long time on my wish list) and the image quality was excellent. Again a very compact (no barrel extension) lens. I may end up selling my a7iii, perhaps if Panasonic launches a G10 with some substantial improvements but again. Even today you can't go wrong with a G9 and this at the fraction of the cost of a Sony.

I’m currently in the situation where I have to decide wether to make the full switch to L mount with the SL system or stay with MFT. If I am to go full L mount then I would sell my MFT kit and upgrade to an SL2-S in September. But it’s a big decision so I’m taking my time and trying some lenses on my SL typ 601 to see if it can be my main camera. It’ll compliment my Leica M10 nicely but I know how good MFT IBIS is and I like the features like Live comp and hand held high res of my E-M1 Mark III. But I also love all the extra detail of Leica full frame and the color science from the Leica Maestro II processors of my SL 601 and M10. I ordered a Lumix 20-60mm to go with my SL. I also have a Lumix 50mm f/1.8 and an M to L mount adapter to use my M mount lenses on it. The 20-60mm is gonna be the lens that determines if the SL system is gonna be my new main system. If it is then I’ll be selling off all my MFT kit and buy a couple of lenses and a spare battery ($250 each lol) for my Leica SL. So I more than understand the need to time to make such a big decision to make a full switch of systems. The upside of switching to full Leica is that both of my cameras (Leica SL and M10) compliment each other. An E-M1 Mark III doesn’t really compliment a Leica M10 all that well. Plus the amazing EVF of the SL cameras is something I would not want to be without anymore. I look forward to your decision matti, as I too have a big decision to make. Hopefully within the next month I’ll be able to gather enough experience from using the SL to decide if I’m going all in or if I’m going to sell the SL 601 and E-M1 Mark III to buy an OM-1 with an Olympus 12-100mm f/4 Pro IS. The OM-1 would be the perfect camera for long lenses, or light painting, or eND use, or Macro, or Budged, or Stars, or adventures in Nature where the best weather sealing makes the difference. But it looks like your Cameras needs to have the ultra best iQ (that no one could tell the difference in real life in non professional work) and the “Boring” but efficient Sony fits perfect for your use. You NEED to keep your Sony. Please don’t change so fast from Sony to OM as you did from LUMIX to Sony. Would be a mistake. 😊 Sony make sense for KZbinrs. Every 3 months a new product. You can never find a Camera with all functionality you need, and you can buy many Sonys (wow). And you will no longer need to make FW updates… because the new Camera will be there… waiting for you.

Like I said in the video, I need a good hybrid camera. I don't need the best IQ. If I needed that I'd not be using the A7IV. Sony or other manufacturers have better models for "ultra best IQ"😀 However, if you need "the perfect camera for long lenses, or light painting, or eND use, or Macro, or Budged, or Stars, or adventures in Nature" the OM-1 might for you.

@@mattisulanto Sony is more profitabel for youtubers and many professionals. The new hype is to say “hybrid Camera” 😬! The OM1 can do much more things compared to the A7IV, but will lose in AF, DR and iQ. But, I’m not joking. I really think that the A7IV is the better option for you, for Robin, Peter and Joe. It makes sense. I worked with Sony for many years! Efficient and Boring! But profitable. I’m afraid that we will only have Sony or Canon to choose from in the future. Beginners, Amateurs and many (non extreme) professionals are going in those hypes for years. The tendency is to reduce the options to choose from. In the long term, in my opinion, you will “feel” the boring side of the Sony Cameras. And you will realize that Sony doesn’t bring so many FW updates suggesting you to buy a new Camera. And Sony will not pack many features in one Camera… and again you will need more Cameras to do other things. And because of that strategy they are so profitable. And also because they understood how important influencers are!

I have two G9’s and many PL lenses however the 12-60 f2.8-4 is my go to lens for most of my photos, especially for travel. It is very versatile and is very light weight. I just purchased an OM-1 for my wife’s Oly 12-100 f4 lens and it is perfectly balanced and it is a great kit for her. So far I have no reason to leave my G9’s as they do everything I need. I might buy a new phase detect Panasonic M43 camera but it won’t be because I need it to do anything better than the G9. You can’t beat the value of the current G9 & 12-60 combo. At $1500 it is a steal. I paid $2300 for the kit 4 years ago and I have loved it. I have kept my D750 and FX lenses but I very rarely use them. Good luck!

Yes, it is satisfying to find something appropriate. Another hobby is HiFi. Earlier I spend much money to get a "great" Marantz Amplifier/CD Player. Worked 2 years to on a side job for the money. Nowadays I'm hearing with an old combination of 30+20 years old Luxman Amp and Yamaha Player which I bought used for small money. This combi sounds wonderful warm, melty, analog. So it's not the money you spent. It's always the same: fun. Matti, I hope you find camera(s) you really like. That is not so easy. But if you have found, seems you then don't need much cameras/lenses anymore. Then it's not longer important which one to choose. You need/use less. SIMPLICITY can be satisfying.

The trouble with m43 is perfectly shown when you put the two cameras together and the bodies and lenses were the same size. Game over for M43. There never was any reason for M43 unless it was size. The original concept was all about having a small setup, body and lens. Now Sony have both small bodies and lenses and much bigger sensors. I'd buy a new version of my gx800 if it had phase detect autofocus and no crop on 4k. With my 20mm f1.7 it would be a dream. But until then I'll use my ZVE1 with a F2.8 24mm when I want a pocket high quality camera. Or my A7r v when I want the ultimate quality. There is no "space" left in the market for a large m43 camera body anymore. As you say the Sony e mount gives almost a new great lens every week. I have an a6700 which I put an amazing sigma 18 to 50mm constant f2.8 lens on. What a combination! And the lens is ridiculously small, high quality and cheap! @@FierceSleepingDog "very arrogant and myopic" really? - you do know why OM systems exists? Because Olympus wanted to get rid of the their camera division, why do you think that was? I am not a "fan boy" of anything except wanting the best. Nikon are doing well, much better than I expected, but then they are using a Sony sensor. Canon is still selling the most cameras, almost double Sony but the value of Sony cameras sold in total exceeds Canons sale by 20%. So they sell half Canon's numbers but turnover 1/5 th more money. Clearly people are happy to pay a lot more money for Sony cameras than Canon. Given that they are not fools it must be because they see them as premium products offering the best in class even if the prices are sometimes higher. These are all facts. How you interpret the facts is up to you. At some point the costs of R & D need to paid for and thats when you need to sell large numbers or stagnate, aka OM5.
