Intel have been a greedy bunch for years. Wanting to experiment with PC components and trying to really get into the whole matter, doing research, testing stuff and simply trying to get more performance out of your CPU is not greedy. Your definition of greed is wrong. An overclocked CPU will also last "for years". Your 8700K does not fall apart after 2 years just because you overclocked it to 5GHz. I mean, if you want to keep your CPU for like 10 years you might have a point (never had any PC that long), but I don't know any data on the long-term effects of overclocking. Have a nice day.

@CheapBastard19885 жыл бұрын
@@GifCoDigital Calm down dude. You have to be honest it would be nice if Intel just unlocked all multipliers on everything more powerful than a Pentium. AMD locked down processors in the past but isn't anymore on their RYZEN SKU which is the most relevant. They are gaining market share and they are getting a good image among consumers. It would be a nice move if Intel did the same on their "Core" SKU. It would make Intel a better value oriented brand and overclocking more interesting. Because overclocking would be more interesting there would be more KZbin video's about overclocking lower SKU Intel which raises product awareness which would most likely boost sales. The problem with Intel however is that consumers would likely buy a lower SKU CPU and there won't be higher sales numbers because they still have troubles with their 14nm shortage. But who knows if once their production shortage has been resolved Intel may change their ways. AMD should still be commended for unlocking most of their processors.

You are an adult now, and so you can make absumptions on topics you know nothing about XD. If you don't plan on trying to push all you can get out of your cpu and you just want some extra performance, you can OC your cpu with a quick google seach and 5 -10 mins, and get way more than a 2% performance bump. Or.... just flip the sync all cores switch in the bios for Intel CPUs.... wich takes less than 5 mins. Except with the new Ryzen AMD cpus, those require to touch quite a bit of things, because they are perform pretty much as good as they can out of the box.

Ah another very balanced opinion. Winning hearts of both sides. Knowing basic (or casual) OC can actually help sometimes. I was going nuts with my 3900X for days. I did not want to get into OCing it because I felt it is just not worth it. But just by going the casual OC way I was able to get a way way better multi core performance on the chip with the same temps I got on stock. I have made a whole video on this actually. It is really beautiful what even a basic knowledge can do. I am not into crazy OC craze but even the basic one helped me a lot. So yeah, OC doesn't mean now that it just about getting more clocks on it. Right on, on at least the ryzen 3000 series, OC means getting same performance on multicore with same temps as stock. :)

After years having my CPU overclocked over 600 MHz, I realized it really wasn't worth it after I had to reset my BIOS, went to default settings and realized I did not observe any difference in my computer's performance. I also noticed a significant drop in the power reading off my UPS. I was burning up all that extra power for nothing. I now have it overclocked around 300 MHz, which small increase in power usage. Sure my file compression, file checksum, and video encoding operations will run a little bit longer (about 10%), most times I just set them to run in the background while I work on other things. Having them complete faster doesn't benefit me. Games perform the same.

A good option actually is to just lower the graphics settings a bit for getting that FPS increase you want. It doesn't make that much of a difference at all in the end for the texture quality. Those were the days of overlapping products and all gains came directly from clock speed. Back then they'd release a CPU on a new process and ramp up the clock speeds for years before changing anything up. Today they essentially make one line of CPUs and fill in the middle and low range later on during the year as capacity increases. The baseline Northwood was 2GHz, the big dog was 2.4GHz and the value was 1.6GHz with the previous generation stopping around 2.2GHz. Today the highest bin is released roughly the same time as the mid and low end and there aren't any real improvements coming until the next generation.

@MJ-cf3qm5 жыл бұрын
Depends what it is. In 1 game i go from 124 FPS to 148 FPS with a Vega 64 from only undervolting and increasing the power slider to max. It then goes to 171 FPS after increasing the memory frequency, only. No GPU frequency increasing at all. Less heat, noise and power used is often the case with undervolting. Many other graphics cards and CPU's decrease performance with undervolting. Undervolting performance is largely related to architecture types such as Vega.
@llrennanll5 жыл бұрын
Yes but, just like overclocking, If you push it too much the system will be very unstable, I've seen some people posting that it's better to lower the power target, rather than the voltage, you get the same benefits from undervolting while maintaining stability.

Yes, if you intend to upgrade in no more than (10 - x)/ years, considering x is the amout of years since you use the CPU you want to overclock. If you want your CPU to have a long life, than don't do if. Of course it also depends on how much you use the PC with that CPU. If you game a lot, then be careful. Everything has a risk.
