It's too bad that these highly motivated women could just be in regular sales jobs making commission and instead are wasting their skills on a "recruiting" job that pays them nothing

“If they love the jewellery, they might love selling it.” Can you imagine walking into a grocery store, getting something from the bakery, and being pitched on working there because clearly you love bread?
@christafranken9170
@christafranken9170 Жыл бұрын
At least that would stop when the market for sales people is saturated. The baker makes money from selling bread and when that would go better with one or more people extra in the shop, they might pitch the job (once or twice) to people who might be interested and who might be a good fit for the job. The baker won't keep harassing you when there are enough sales people in the shop or when you aren't interested

I can never understand why these people don’t realize that a real retail business doesn’t want more competition? “Planting the seed today and then following up with ppl over the course of weeks, months and years sounds absolutely exhausting.” It IS exhausting! That’s why I left Primerica. @Jessie ya the products are real and you are compensated for selling. the idea is great but a lot of teams are sketchy and just push sales and recruiting without the teaching aspect and don't always do the best thing for the customer. Ya, I didn't either. I recruited one of my friends and we enjoyed getting our life licenses but they made us go to multiple meetings every week and do team calls and made it way less fun and started being pushy as hell. They went from doing it in your spare time to quit your regular job because this job is too demanding and you aren't focused...like ok I'm 22 I don't want to make this my full time thing, I still wanna have fun with my life lol

I find it so funny that one of the first things these huns always "teach" is to depersonalize the experience of recruitment and intentionally dissociate from your feelings during it. Um, those icky feelings in your stomach? That's your conscience, lol. Maybe you should listen to it?! 😬

I used to sell Scentsy back in the day, I didn’t have a “holy shit this is cultish” vibes till I went to their huge convention they have every year. It was very weird, and not too shortly after that I quit. They ended up changing the amount you had to sell to $200, and I was lucky to make that (or close to it) in a 3 month period. I do wish I had wrote down how much I spent compared to what I made to see how much I lost, cause I’m almost positive I lost money and didn’t make any.

@@Tktikipunch I also spent money on event tables, for supplies not in their store, gas money driving to houses, stuff like that is what I wish I could have kept tabs on. I wasn’t thinking I wouldn’t make money back when I joined, but I didn’t think I’d make so much that I could quit my job and stay home.

@@Tktikipunch you as well, yeah they wanted us to keep receipts for tax purposes too, I just didn’t thinking it wouldn’t be worth it. They’d also spout the whole “this stuff sells itself” crap so you’d feel like if you weren’t selling it was a you problem. I never believed that, but they also pushed recruiting your customers and I never understood that. So I’m going to recruit the only people buying from me and then I’ll have to find more people to buy from me and then recruit. Eventually I’m going to run out of people. So I’d just have parties and if people at a party ordered enough for a “combine and save” but separately I’d add them together so they could save money. (Combine and save you could get 2 warmers and 6 bars cheaper than if you ordered them separately). Our group that sold was a good group of people, helpful, we weren’t bullied. The worst time I had in it was really the conventions I paid to go to oddly enough cause I was told I was the reason I was failing.

This woman's system of taking the "hard emotion" out of recruiting sure explains the single-minded persistence of the pitch. They shut off any common decency they might have, and ignore any response but a sucessful one, in effect turning themselves into a- - - - - - s.

My mom hosted a party for this company when I was like 12. As her "hostess gift" she got to pick out jewelry and since I helped host (no way I was missing that snack spread) I got to pick something. I got this super sparkly necklace and was one of my prized possessions. Until I learned about mlm and such. I still love the necklace though but my brother ended up getting me a cat pendant that I haven't taken off except to clean in three years. Safe to say that's my new "prized possession".

That whole "don't get so connected to your audience" part of the call irk me as an artist. I work mainly with BW as I am a BW myself, & I have seen first-hand how we are treated in the art community, galleries, and so on, so I have that connection with others to give them what they want. It's emotional and shows they are not alone, and them buying my products is what I'm going for, them sticking around is up to them, and I appreciate that. Plus, what I learn from all of my art teachers is to leave the people who said No alone. Not everyone is your audience, and a lot of MLMs don't understand that since they are so focused on recruiting.

Oh Park Lane. I once worked with a woman who sold Park Lane Jewelry. I just started working at the office and she brought a catalogue. As it was before Christmas, and I wanted to make a good first impression, I ordered $140.00 worth of items to give out as gifts to friends and family. Apparently Park Lane “lost” my package and I never received my jewelry. She promised to follow up on this and I gave her several months. I contacted the company myself and they said they did not have an order in my name or address or combination of items I ordered. I never had my money returned nor seen any items. It was an expensive lesson.

I work as a professional fundraiser for a local non-profit. Part of my job is to keep having conversations with people and reaching out to them in the hopes that when I do solicit or ask for a donation that they say yes, but with my job I get paid salary since I work in an office. I would HATE to work for an MLM where you can work so hard and get 0$ paid out to you

I actually think my grandmother had a Park Lane party years and years ago, so it does ring a bell. I think it’s one of those more staid, more older audience leaning MLMs, which might be one of the reasons it’s not quite as obvious as the more flashy ones.
