it’s such a negative way for the kid to start their day, too. rather just connect with your child while you have the chance? or pay attention to the road? have some music, a podcast or an audiobook on? so many better uses of time.

It's so dangerous, and she has a child in the back! The only reasons I can think of for her deciding to do the video while striving her kid is 1) she's so short on time that this is the only time she has to do it (doesn't exactly support the "it's so easy, you get to make your own hours" bullshit), 2) she wants to show "look, I have time to take my kid to school" (and yet she's still at work anyway so all that argument when it comes to family is bs)
@Metroid250

I believe someone would have to report the video to authorities. It has happened before and used as evidence, just that nobody's reporting it in this instance. It also aids greatly if it's reported as it's happening. Reporting past incidences like this may be moot

When someone in an MLM found out they tried to get me to join saying it would help my illness (even though literal professors in their field have found my case hard). I ended up building my own tutoring service for neurodiverse children and have a team of 6 and growing. I pay my team well and would never talk to them like this! It is crazy! I feel for these reps where they are made to feel like they HAVE to express being proud or grateful for getting any paycheck or compensation I'll continue "sleeping on" this "opportunity" and keep on with my own day job I genuinely love and my side hustle of a small business I actually own and control all the products/operations for!

Right?? I get paid every two weeks, I can count on that every two weeks and I know exactly how much they are going to be. I would choose that 10/10 times over 82 weekly checks that might be $30 or $1.50. Because, based on the stats of how much they actually make, it's likely those checks are super low. No thanks.

After her second, my sis insisted on staying home with her newborn and 4 year old. She had visions of being the quintessential earth mom. Keep in mind, that the grandparents provided free child care. She went on and on about how the oldest got “cheated”. She lasted one year. These people romanticize stay at home parents. Unless you have a staff, you are a chauffeur, cleaning lady. Home administrator. The fun moments get squeeEd in between practical priorities. It is a HARD job with mo time off.

I do sales at a computer store where the starting salary is already more than double the "huge paycheque" these women have shown of a measly 17 grand a year, plus I get commission on top of that as well as full benefits. The big difference between jobs like ours and these MLMs is we have guaranteed income regardless of how many sales/tips we get. It must be awful to not be able to rely on an expected income, fearing every month that no matter how hard you work you could still end up net zero or worse.

We would get hash browns from dunkins and laugh at the morning show on the radio. Towards the end, I know there were a couple days my youngest missed the bus on purpose. Seeing the mom waste precious time while she endangers her child on the road.. while the kid is also buried in a screen is heartbreaking. I hope she wakes up soon. Empty nest is no joke 😢

Thank you for nailing the gluten (and dairy) thing. I am a biopsy-diagnosed celiac… I think it’s been 11 years since diagnosis this summer. It kills me when people remove it for no discernible reason. Or worse, when they claim you can lose weight by doing so, etc. Let’s not pretend that gluten free foods aren’t higher in fat and calories, and lower in protein than their gluten counterparts. If you are avoiding processed food (where much of gluten resides) and are moving more, you probably will lose weight, but it has nothing to do with the gluten itself. I would literally die if I continued eating it (very slowly and painfully over years - celiac is not an allergy/anaphylaxis, it’s an autoimmune disorder). So it makes me very sad when people fall into these diet traps. I would love to be able to eat good cakes, donuts and bread again. No one should be depriving themselves of those yummies unless medically necessary! If you feel better not eating it, that’s great. Don’t eat it! I totally support that. If it’s not making you sick, don’t deprive yourself of it. I have to add my friend,y reminder that if you are looking to be tested for celiac, it’s even more important that you DON’T stop eating it until you have been tested/diagnosed. That sounds a little crazy if you are very ill, but it’s important for accurate blood and biopsy results. Gluten is not evil in and of itself. You can have a very healthy, low calorie diet that includes delicious gluten.

One of the saddest things about these videos demonizing "9-5"s is that if these women would put HALF the work into some kind of entrepreneurial pursuit, they would make so much more money. The choices are not "9-5 or MLM." When I moved to my current city a dozen years ago I had no job. I went to Walmart and bought cleaning supplies, ordered $20 business cards on Vistaprint, and started cleaning houses. Within one year, I was booked 6 days a week and I was constantly turning down new customers. And every MINUTE I was working, I was PAID. I have not collected a paycheck from anyone else since then. Cleaning houses doesn't take any special skills, other than just physically being able to do the work. There are hundreds of pursuits that these young, healthy gals could be doing and making tangible money. Hell, a lot of them are gorgeous and could take a real stab at being "influencers" (like you, I hate that word!) or bloggers. Anyway I'm rambling now

I am 1000% with you on your opinion regarding restrictive eating. When my sister (16 years apart) was 4 I took her on a beach vacation. Every time we ate I'd ask her what she wanted and she would say "is ______ healthy?" I was shocked thinking "it's healthy to eat. You're 4. As long as you're not on a strict diet of candy, chips, cookies, icecream, & soda you're fine" fast forward about 10 years I have a 3 & 7 year old. They make similar comments. I flat out tell them "eating is healthy. as long as you're eating food, you can have snacks too!"

i know you're not currently in early-education, hannah, but i couldn't help but think as you were discussing the beachbody "coach" that it would've been so powerful for me to have a teacher like you as a little girl. i had body-positive teachers as a teen/young adult, but by that point i had been fatshamed and food-shamed for so long that my eating disorders were a forgone conclusion. the only teachers that ever discussed food with me as a child were ones who tried to identify with me as fellow fat people, but they assumed that our collective goal was to diet and lose weight. this mentality was (and continues to be) so incredibly damaging, and i am so grateful to you for using your platform to be such a beacon of warmth and hope. incidentally, i really want cheesecake factory...

That beachbody coach at the cheesecake factory is disturbing. I’m a bodybuilder and this behaviour is reminiscent of prepping for a show but way more toxic. and the way she demonizes that stuff is beyond problematic - we don’t even do that, and we recognize the dieting we do is for a specific purpose, for a specific day to showcase the work, and it’s not sustainable year round, and it still doesn’t even require us to have “good vs bad” foods. I’m floored at the toxic diet culture, the way they’re not certified to talk on any of this, and are coaching this stuff out.

I have to eat that way because of coeliac disease, soy intolerance and GERD. I've had to ask if a dish can be changed to accommodate my needs because otherwise theres little I can eat on a meal out. HOWEVER. it sucks. Its embarrassing, it's always a risk that they'll say they do it but dont, its stressful and its BORING. but I have to because of medical conditions. The idea people would CHOOSE this hellscape is mind boggling. The effect on my mental health and my relationship with food is huge, my ED kicked off hard when I was diagnosed with GERD and had to go on the "bland" diet....its exhausting. It's all you think about. I wish stuff like this was illegal

Exactly. Your body may be in the same room as your child but your attention is not. And children know that. She should have used the car ride to school engaging her child to have a good day and do her best. Instead, the girl probably went to school extra-stressed because she could hear the strain in her mother’s voice but didn’t understand it. And was she still in the car when her mother dropped the “F” bomb? Nice.

Re the Beachbody hun: I agree with your attitude about eating, Hannah! One of the reasons to add to your excellent list is that it’s often self-defeating. She’s worried about gluten in mashed potatoes (?), so swapped it out for sweet potato fries. She just seemed to gloss over that - I thought, those fries probably have 600-700 calories! (Sweet potatoes are often twice-fried.) So to check, I looked it up on CF’s published nutrition info. Turns out the mashed potatoes she ditched have 450 calories, and the sweet potato fries clock in at 1010 calories! She should have just eaten a bite of her kids’ cheesecake. Or perhaps looked at the nutrition info on her phone before ordering, because often what we “feel” is healthier is anything but. So yeah, don’t take nutrition/diet/“wellness” advice from this or any other unaccredited MLM volunteer. Loved the quick bit about Beautycounter - yikes! Would love a deep dive about them. Love all your videos!

Hi hello!! I need to go on a little ramble bc I'm very excited!!!!!!! I normally listen to your videos as I do other things and while I've listened to this episode before, this time I caught the word orthorexia and im!!!!!!! So happy I could cry!!!!!!!!!! I've never heard anyone really talk abt it! And it's not officially in the dsm yet as of when I last checked, so docs usually don't like talking abt it!! Some of them know what it is, and will therefore at least diagnose said patients with Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified, but it's sadly so common for them to go "I think something isn't healthy here but idk what" and for ppl w Orthorexia to go undiagnosed!! I feel like modern us food socialization(?) makes it REALLY easy to fall into patterns/behavior that would easily form/cause Orthorexia and that it's hard to identify BC of that! Like it's just seen as normal diet culture bc ppl don't understand how harmful non-medical, restrictive diets are!! So thank you SO MUCH! I literally just woke up and this made my entire day 😭💞💞

I never had any experience with MLMs, but your person, your kindness, your intelligence, and your honesty drew me in-not to mention the fascinating psychological dynamics that go on in this world. I thank you for all your work and dedication. Sometimes I get so sad: I hear people left their master’s degree or their real job with benefits for this, wow!! And I always figured selling products is just a loophole for the company to continue to operate as a pyramid scheme-exactly as you pointed out in this video. Thank you for your wonderful commentary. I sincerely hope you can help open many people’s eyes to the manipulative and deceptive practices that go on and that somehow “make sense” to those who fall prey to them. The system seems to be designed to prey on vulnerabilities that are very common and, many times, simply part of the human condition. You are very precious. As someone who avoids meat/dairy for ethical reasons, I always come up against a conundrum when faced with "avoiding dairy because (insert arbitrary diet reason)". On one hand, I'm happy anytime one less person is contributing to an industry to destroys the environment and perpetuates misery. On the other, their diet will inevitably end and they will be less likely to avoid meat/dairy because they'll associate it with the difficulty and pleasure-denial of their arbitrary MLM diet.

The only thing I can say *barely* in “defense” of the girl going to get induced is that depending on how far progressed you are, and how your providers decide to proceed in an induction, sometimes they can take 24-48 hours or longer. I got lucky when I was induced, it only took 3 hours. So she was probably laying there bored and figured she’d “get some things done”. HOWEVER I still 100% agree a REAL job wouldn’t be requiring you to get things done while you’re being induced and when she gets home from the hospital she’ll have to post just as much or more to make up for lost time and that’s time she’ll be losing with her newborn.

Not only is the beach body hun hurting herself with her diet, the message she is sending to her children. That dieting and weight loss is more important than enjoying a delicious meal with your kids. My moms obsession with dieting and weight loss negatively impacted my relationship with food and my body to a massive extent. I had an ED for years & still struggle everyday with ED thoughts & behaviours. I don’t think the hun would ever force her kids to follow beach body, but her obsessive restriction will most certainly (imo) impact them for the rest of their lives and not in a good way.
