They did always played with the idea that the characters slowly figuring out that they were a TV show and the show slowly changing the world around them. This was like the start of it all, the status quo was being challenged and the “show” didn’t pick up until Richard got fired.

Boo! THAT'S HORRIBLE! Unacceptable! 😡 *I object to this episode. The Job never made fun of the status quo except to justify it. It would be like if the Family Guy episode Seahorse Seashell Party had the universe tear apart because Meg didn't want the other Griffins to abuse her, and it took that to teach her she was wrong to stand up to her abusive family. Having your show say that a character can not improve because the universe will be destroyed if they are GOOD at their job is the most biggest middle finger you can give to anyone who cares about that character, and everyone who wrote this episode needs to be sorry. I mean, why would Nicole not want her husband to have a job? 😭 This is depressing as fork if Richard HAS to be a useless sack of shirt to keep the world together! A hopeless, depressing situation like this would be like...well, can you imagine if The Good Place...blew itself up and rendered everybody's effort to stop Judge Gen from resetting the Earth useless, because Eleanor Shellstrop became a less selfish person, or because Chidi became more confident, and the universe ends the minute Richard successfully delivers a pizza and Chidi is confident enough to have a better afterlife system? Saying "Oh, you can't improve the characters in this area because the status quo forbids it" is UNFORGIVABLE because that makes it impossible to care about any character when they are forced to be miserable.* You are allowed to like The Job, but if you hate Seahorse Seashell Party, then I have no idea why you would like The Job any better. I just don't care for writers who make awful and insulting decisions that cast a permanent shadow on the rest of their series, like when Alone Again, Natura-Diddly killed Maude Flanders with two simultaneously coinciding minimal incidents, and then Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes and Waiting for Duffman made insensitive light about it. Just because you are writing a cartoon and it isn't real doesn't mean we can't be disgusted by the messages you give us, even if we know we should not take it seriously. Actually, about that...if The Amazing World of Gumball didn't want us to take it seriously at all, we wouldn't have The Hero reprimand Gumball and Darwin for complaining about Richard's uselessness, and The Finale gives the Wattersons cruel and unusual punishments beyond realistic consequences for their actions while also punishing _us_ for laughing at the trouble they caused in earlier episodes. I thought The Finale was just as despicable as the Family Guy episode Screams of Silence in terms of rancid morality, because...you can't just flip a switch to take things seriously that used to be played for comedy in the same series if you go too far in the other direction, because when you transcend 9/10ths of reality, you're not taking it seriously enough because you remove any sort of nuance that this real-world issue has. @@adampkalb Lmao, you do realize that TAWOG is a different kind of show with different goals and messages and a different audience than Family Guy or The Good Place, right? On top of that, TAWOG isn't justifying abuse by not giving Richard a job. Like maneoj46 said, the show plays with characters slowly realizing they're in a TV show so of course, a good way to take a show like that would be to have the characters question why they can't challenge the status quo and then have the universe in the show give them an answer. The show has multiple moments where we see that the universe likes things to be a certain way. That's where the entire plot with the void comes in, if you ever fucking paid attention to the show. If TAWOG was meant to be like The Good Place, of course it wouldn't make sense for the show to take this direction but TAWOG isn't meant to be like The Good Place and to try and claim the The Job is a bad episode simply because it isn't like another show ENTIRELY different from its own is so fucking stupid. The Good Place and Family Guy are intended to have a much larger sense of realism than TAWOG. The point of TAWOG is to be completely fictional and work with the idea of characters knowing they're in a TV show. Family Guy has fourth wall breaks but the show doesn't focus on the Griffins realizing they're in a cartoon. Meanwhile, TAWOG doesn't just have fourth wall breaks. It specifically has moments where characters take note that their world isn't real in the way that we perceive our own. You're supposed to watch TAWOG in a different way than Family Guy so yes, I _can_ like The Job and absolutely despise Seahorse Seashell Party because, among other things, one's not telling the audience that it's okay for one of its characters to be regularly physically and verbally abused and to stay in the position just for their abusers' benefit! And in terms of the finale and Screams of Silence, Family Guy regularly makes abuse a JOKE on the show and then suddenly wants to have an episode talking about how bad abuse is. TAWOG regularly has the characters make references to the fourth wall or being in a cartoon. If you watch Family Guy and then TAWOG and think, "Yeah, I can judge two episodes from these shows the same way despite the show's being VASTLY fucking different," you're denser than a damn brick. If you think The Job is bad, have reasons that aren't comparing it to a show that's nothing like it and a show that's nothing like it and makes jokes about abuse before turning on a dime and trying to have serious episodes about it while somehow making themselves look worse in the process. Also, Richard was _terrible_ at his job so what are you even talking about saying that the universe shouldn't see it as a bad thing when someone does something good and is good at it?

the two episodes I recommend may be odd but they really stuck to me: The Weirdo, I love this episode cuz it teaches about not letting other people change the way you are even if people think you are a weirdo, if you are happy the way you are, then you don't need to be different. And I love that message so much let alone the episode, I think its funny and clever and the song at the end is very underrated in my opinion. Also I want to recommend the heart, imo one of maybe even my favorite mr Robinson episode and in my opinion a really amazing conclusion for mr robinson's character, Other episodes I recommend: the finale, the kids, the shell, the origins, the disaster/the rerun, the choices, the puppets and the factory
