Reload really gave us the definitive Journey experience. Would have been nice to have the FEMC route, but the cost in time and money needed for creating it would probably add a whole year of development time, not to mention make it harder for the game to recoup its costs.

Considering its still a remake of a remake of a remake that originally stated it would not have X content then suddenly have the content released as an `expansion` feels like a massive flip off. Because even with the Persona 5 `polish`, if you already played Persona 3, Persona 3: FES AND Persona 3 Portable, then you have little care for what half feels like a definitive `lack` remake. Especially when its once again pulling that additional personas that break the game as a DLC addition, where even if you dont buy it, the feel such a OP thing is present doesnt help the feels. Since its similar to the feel when a hacker can strut into a difficult fight, one-shot them and walk away, even more so when the game locks a very useful thing behind said content, that conviently gives an alternative or OP thing behind a paid DLC. Refer to Grand blue Fantasy: Relink who has had up to THREE, `free` DLC characters locked behind extremely ridiculously hard to clear, even more so to farm pair of boss fights that conviently have the option to pay around 5 bucks, PER CHARACTER, to just unlock them instantly, including alot of the gear (sigils) and likely save days or even a week or two of grinding for them instead. Which i am sure plenty are still enraged by things like gamefreak deciding to huck its remake for Diamond/Pearl to a 3rd party company and didnt bother to make them be definitive editions with the features of Platinum. Where even if Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire likely lacked things from Emerald, the amount of quality, polish and inclusion of a `Episode Delta` to act as its `Emerald` to the game, including mega evolutions that were originally an X/Y thing, made it 100% feel like the same gag as Final fantasy 7 Remake & Rebirth when compared to the original Final Fantasy 7, an overall redesign of the game in more ways then one, then simply a lazy remaster where over 70% of the new stuff is just a visual style and not much else.

If they simply did not have any comment about the Answer being released or maybe do something better like a small teaser for say a second in a trailer to lead to the idea we may or may not have Metis come back then it would of been a perfect segway to announce the Answer after that. Distrustful actions will always lead to problems and if it wasnt for the fact its just Persona 3 in Persona 5 graphic style at the end of the day, i would of said they should of just had Answer and FeMC as part of Persona 3 Reload period. Since now that people are just straight up modding FeMC in and doing a high quality damn job of it too, that just puts the idea that either Atlus needs to freaking lock in and commit to bringing in FeMC or take the L they did not go full in with a Definitive edition. Since especially in this day and age with how often games get remake/remastered, doing things like `skipping` part of the content that were in previous versions, just creates a problem gap of whats the real `definitive edition` to play at the end of the day. Especially when it comes to the cost of acquiring it, what is actually present and especially if some COMPLETE EDITION exists before some new `remake/remaster` came out and that remake/remaster conviently is missing out large portions of content that could of been massive QoLs like additional story and moar.

I guess if that's what you want more power to you, but everything they added pales in comparison to what was flatout removed or is a shadow of what it once was. The lighting feels really shallow at points, especially the Dark Hour green. Bosses, once you get Theurgy, have no chance, and the game loses all balance. A feature I really like that they removed was allowing multiple different weapon types for the protagonist. I don't know why they didn't include this besides pure laziness, I guess. My biggest gripe is the day one DLC, I get that they want to add cool things from the other games, but to me it seems to be a blatant cash grab. And the fact that they said originally they had no plans on doing The Answer, then released the $200 Aigis edition, which I admit I did buy, which said it contained all DLC, just for them to announce fairly soon after release that The Answer would come costing half of the base game and anyone who bought any edition containing ALL DLC would still have to shill out that $35. I think this is setting a pretty bad precedent for the industry as a whole, showing that game companies can get away with releasing DLC (lots of season passes and cosmetics, and lots of useless things), sometimes day one , in Atlus's case releasing an integral part of the story behind a paywall. A game I know who did this correct was GOW: Ragnarok, with the Valhalla DLC. A free DLC about the games epilouge.

I will say that by virtue of this being a remake a long time player can definitely see how far Persona has come in dialogue writing, characterization of the silent protagonist (It sounds like an oxymoron, but if you know you know), and the variety of social link characters. Persona 3 has a different bone structure than five and even four, so retrofitting new features into that skeleton shows. It's not limited to this, because both Golden and Royal have moments where you can tell which are added features. In some cases even the writing of the Link episodes in Reload feel stronger than the actual base game. To me it's not objectively good or bad, but it does remind me of how Pokemon remakes tend to slap on new features but keep the relative aged features of the original.

For me personally, i think Reload was a great game and improved on FES/Portable in almost every way. Granted, Reload was actually my introduction to Persona which led me to play every other Persona game before it. I finished P5R twice, finished P4G and finished P3P and i was gonna play FES but i kinda have P3 burnout rn so maybe another time so my comparisons are mostly with Portable and i think it goes without saying which is the better game objectively That isnt to say that Reload is a perfect game since such a thing doesnt exist. There are definitely many ways they couldve improved the game such as adding all the extra content from the original games to Reload or FEMC but i understand Game dev isnt the easiest thing in the world and would need to cut corners to meet a deadline but it doesnt stop me from being a little disappointed Things like Music, Gameplay, Voice Acting ( i will touch up on that later) and others are massive improvements but there are a few things i thought was better in the Original. Some music i prefer in the original such as the original Mass Destruction after listening to the original sounds like it has more impact? Or such in a way, its hard to explain but i did prefer the original as well as the original Dorm music too but thats just my opinion. I dont think i need to get into Gameplay since i feel like it is an improvement in every single aspect, im not a hardcore player so i dont really care if it makes the game baby easy since i dont determine a game’s quality based on how difficult the game is For Voice acting, all the voices are amazing. Especially from someone like Mitsuru, Fuuka, Ken, Junpei, Midori and Yukari and others. Though i feel like at some parts, the original voice acting did better but it wasnt the voices that was a benefactor but the direction. Like the scene with Yukari screaming bloody murder before you stop the train from crashing, it was far more impactful in the original than in Reload. But other than a few scenes, all the VAs did a fantastic job. With the Cutscenes, im a bit iffy on. While they are still good in Reload, FES did a few of them better in my opinion such as the cutscenes first showing people turning into coffins at the backalley. Reload got the shorter end of the stick there and the Mo-capped cutscene can look a little awkward at times like the ending scene of everyone running to the roof, someone pointed out that when it shoes Yukari running, you can see the backgrounf slowly coming to a stop which kinda ruined the scene for me when looking back. So in the Cutscene department, some looked alot better in FES In general, Reload is a fantastic game and got me into Persona but there are slight things which can be improved upon.

The missing FeMC discussion and hate should be tossed aside. Devs specifically stated that it would have cost way too much and too more time to do. Which is true when you think about it. New assets need to be added, from the Persona to the UI to the character model itself. And that is the small and easy part. Voicing each of her S. Links, changing story voiced content to have "Her" now instead of "Him" (Meaning some lines will have to recorded twice over). It would be an honest mess and I'm fine with her not being included (I'm sure I missed MORE things they would have needed to shell out cash for). Remember that the FeMC was in Portable and not the OG games. Meaning most of the work was done. All Atlus at the time had to do was take an already completed game and add new content (which is the FeMC and her stuff) which doesn't compare to starting everything from scratch. Shady practices aside, Atlus is a business, not a charity. I feel as if we the gaming community need to learn that devs are not our friends but some dudes and gals who made something so they can get our cash. Our enjoyment to (most) of them is secondary (Some devs create FREE and amazing games, I know but put that aside for a moment). P3R was amazing and Door-kun's Journey made me cry yet again. Let's leave it at that or I'll put a bunch of large speakers outside your houses and blast "Memories of You" when you try to sleep so you can go to bed depressed

Escher like decor which was fitting for the tower as it grows from the ground like a teratoma of architecture (search up teratoma on your own risk) forming from the (crystal) matrix of the school. But in reload it’s all just machinery, visual noise and so much small geometry to get stuck on, it was the biggest let down, I remember that in the original in the background of battle there was these two circles rolling on a curved piece and it used stairs as if it was cogs, it was so cool! I was so relieved when the next block the golden palace was so open air and then the rest was pretty easy to navigate, but I wish the big rooms were more frequent, really surprised me when I first saw them and I think the reaper is to easy to run around, didn’t give me that would escaping fear from hearing chains anymore, but it walking up stairs was good tho. This was my first Persona game, and honestly it set the bar SO high for me. Persona had always been on my radar and like a million years ago I had tried Persona 5 but I wasn't in the right mindset to play it so I dropped it and wrote the series off to a "one day I'll give it a shot." Well for my birthday, a friend of mine bought Persona 3R and I dove headfirst and I loved every second of it. Sure, there's some pacing problems but I have absolutely zero frame of reference for this game from the old Persona 3. I thought the story and combat was great, I thought the music was wonderful and unironically might what finally gets me into rap as a genre. I platted not only this game, but it inspired me to get the Platinum for P5R too, and I'll be working on 4G next. I thought the characters and voice acting were absolutely stellar all around. It shocked me to hear this is the first time social links get fully voiced scenes all the way through, but it did such a tremendous job selling me on these characters that everytime I hit a rank 10, I was crying my eyes out at what was going on. This game made me cry multiple times and I can confidently say it's one of my favorite games bar none now. I will always be thankful my friend got me a birthday gift like this because it finally opened the door to a game series that I was always going to put on the backburner. That being said I still don't approve of the DLC pricing and choices, even if I will begrudgingly get Episode Aigis anyways because I love this world and the characters so much I want to see the next step on their journey.

The story, the characters, the emotional rollercoaster, the music, and the visual design-I loved everything. Even the repetitive Tartarus segment was fun for me to play again and again because I found it a relaxing and enjoyable process. My point is that this game is perfect for players like me who have never had experience with JRPGs or Persona games. It's a great introduction to the series. While I wouldn’t say that I’ve suddenly become a Persona fan and might not play any previous Persona games (though I might try Persona 5 someday if I find another 70 hours), I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who usually stays away from these types of games. Persona 3 reload is a lot softer than Persona 3 PS2. I’m not talking about the weirdly cheery atmosphere of Reload while PS2 is dark and gloomy. Just yesterday I was doing Yukari social link. Remember when those three guys trapped her in the alleyway? That is not in Reload. I guess the possibility of rape and sexual assault is just too extreme for modern audience.

As someone who only played reload and no other version of P3. I did very much enjoy it. And some of the changes talked about here did help me understand the story, but i felt that in the attempt to "persona 5 ify Persona 3" some things were forgotten about. Like dating multiple social links is mentioned once and never again. Said romances have little after content once the S link is finished. And you don't really get to interact with the male S.E.E.S members until way later in the game. Game still managed to tug my heart strings at the end but it took a really long time to get me invested in the first place. Actual gameplay wise i don't really have anything to say. Played on merciless. Only challenge i couldn't beat was Elizabeth but that was more like i didn't really want to. I know its a puzzle but i just wanted to finish the story at that point. Once you reach level 70 the game plays itself.

Tbh on the Atmosphere point I do prefer FES because, yes the thought is "is this girl trying to kill herself" and I think that works for the theming. Since its the start of the game its trying to ask a question, in the hustle and bustle of a city no matter how small, will a random person's death even be felt? The dogs will continue to bark, the trains will move on, even while she's contemplating it. It shows this point by having it cut to her and chair walking down the city rapidly to compare the two scenes, both with chaos, one with chaos in the mind, one with chaos in the streets But, Persona 3 answers that question near the end. "Yes, her death would of been felt, her death would of been a tragedy to countless people and could of lead to the end of the world [metaphorically]" P3R doesn't ask that question as well, it doesn't show the counterpoint of "no, it isn't felt, in the grand scheme everyone's a cog in a machine, every dog's bark could be replaced with another, if you miss a train another will come"

I don't dislike persona 3 reload, I actually enjoyed it and I'm glad they remade it however, I do have some criticisms for the game. Mainly yes, as you stated in the video, I feel disappointed that this game was not the "definitive" edition of persona 3, they should have added the answer from the start and femc as well and many other things. Second criticism is also kinda addressed in this video, such as when you mentioned the part where the animation was replaced by 3d cutscene, although I don't really have a problem with the 3d cutscene I believe that the whole game's "atmosphere" is different from the original, it feels much more "lighter", I can't describe it perfectly but the game's tone feels a bit different and I dislike that change of tone in some parts of the game. Third criticism that I have is really a quality of life nitpick, I really dislike how you can not fast forward or skip some animations in battles in reload, sure the animations are beautiful and I loved seeing them but when you spend hours in Tartarus fighting enemies over and over again (getting into a fight, targeting weaknesses and then getting out as quick as possible) those animations take a considerable amount of time and you spend most of your time just watching the same animations over and over (especially the all out attack animation and the following char screen thing). Other than that the game is really nice and worth a buy, it's fun and very faithful to the original I kinda wish that some old music wasn't changed but overall most of the music as well as the new ones are amazing and I can't really nitpick this one because of the change of female singer and I understand how difficult it would be. and honestly, as much as all of these criticisms are valid, I think people need to manage their expectations since the it's impossible to remake everything so accurately and on modern systems in a way that makes the games more accessible to modern audience (However the past content stuff is not excused here, I still think they should've added FEMC and the Answer with the game) Anyways do I think these criticisms ruined the game? Nah, the game is fun and faithful as stated earlier, although I feel like the original atmosphere could've improved this remake and the content as well. Edit: I just noticed that my criticisms were addressed in the video so rip. I decided to stop and comment halfway and only after finishing did I notice that my criticisms were addressed, as for the visual thing, yes persona 3 reload looks so amazing but I still think they could've created the gloomy atmosphere as well, It probably is very possible to do both.

I love FES to death and have a lot of nostalgia for it, but Reload imo just blows nearly every aspect of it out of the water. Since the game is a remake this discussion was always going to happen even if Reload did everything critics wanted, they would just find new things to criticize. This happens with every remake in media no matter how good the new property might be. That said, although I do find the atmosphere criticisms to be… kinda mute… the one major critic I personally have with reload is the cutscenes. Some of the choices to make CG and anime were kinda weird, like why did they choose to keep the shower scene anime but make 10/4 CG? 10/4 still hit pretty hard but it’s just a weird direction choice that I don’t fully understand. I do think the show don’t tell sound design of FES’s opening scene was also wayyyyy better than Reloads. The Kyoto trip anime scene although small also was done better in FES, again, show don’t tell. Those are really the only gripes I have though and everything else I did find substantially better (especially the ending like I think I actually cried way harder in the Reload ending than the FES ending) but this is to be expecting with a remake. You’re not gonna like all the choices made even if the remake is substantially better.

I think the criticism for the change in difficulty and balance is warranted. I also think the criticism for the change of tone are right. P3R has changed It's only a small change but it is noticeable. It's less dark and depressing. P3R is brighter in attitude and colour. I don't mind party control, but I admit now the P3R has become way too easy with all the new battle mechanics. There is something wrong when the challenge is mostly behind the Monad doors when your difficulty is hard. I also think the game UI is a bit over designed. Not much but there is a bit too much clutter on screen. I have no opinion on FemC but it would have been nice. The new OST is fine but I do miss the old tracks. (RIP changing seasons...) The voice actors are OK. Whenever I hear recasted media, I have to ponder if my distaste comes from attachment, are they really miscasted or is the new script and direction bad. This time it's pure attachment. I've played FES so my perspective comes from there. To be as good as the original, it needs to be the original. Remakes are always different.

recently i started playing FES on emulator, and having now seen the reload version of the yukari scene, it is actually just straight up funny in comparison to the original. the dialogue is so goofy and feels generic and its honestly just nothing in comparison to how dark and tense the original felt to me. im open to the idea of the positives of reload, i think the UI's and stuff look great, but for this cutscene i am heavily in favour of the original also based video, i thought it was gonna be one of those stupid negative steam review videos where they act like anyone with a differing opinion is stupid, but you took a very good approach to this, my seal of approval

for me, I feel like my opinions on reload have changed since launch. I loved it with all my heart, but now I feel a lot more mixed about it. I may be nostalgia blind for the original, I'm not sure. I feel like the identity of p3, while not lost, was somewhat hurt in the remake. little things like the camera pov change, theurgy attacks, scenery lighting and cut scenes all add up to make a game that I know is still persona 3, but it just doesn't quite feel like it. it's difficult to explain, and I don't want to come off as an elitist or anything. I appreciate reload a lot and I'm glad it's here as a modern way to play persona 3. I wish I could love it as much as others do, and as I did at launch, but these little changes do get to me sometimes. sorry if that comment was too long. If i could talk about art direction for a moment (specifically from an artist's PoV), i think Reload's visual presentation is phenomenal. While i do think the other versions sell the sense of atmosphere a bit better, Reload makes up for it by just being so beautiful to look at, with the UI & Menus being some of the best examples of that. If i could nitpick about one thing, however, is that some of the cutscenes feel a bit off compared to the original, mainly OG P3/FES. I'm not talking about Pre-rendered or 2D Anime cutscenes either, I'm more so talking about the ones you see with most of the game. Ya'know, with the in-game character models To give one or 2 examples, i wanna discuss Ken eavesdropping Aki's & Shinji's conversation & the scene when Aki talks to Shinji about his Suppression Pills In the former, we don't see Ken until the end, where he's been upstairs & listening to the conversation, making it unlikely for him to be spotted... In Reload, he's just walking into them, only to hide behind a huge vase while listening to the conversation. NGL, it kinda threw me off & it made me wonder how nobody pointed that out As for the latter, Akihiko punches Shinji on both versions, but in Reload, he takes a fighting stance before throwing a weak looking punch... Which made the cutscene look a little goofy... In the original, he straight up punches him in the face. No build up, no warning, just a straight up punch to the face. Once so hard, Shinji actually got pushed back & even better, everyone was looking at the boys when that happened. I think that sells the impact of the scene much better IMO. Again, these are just nitpicks at best & overall, i think P3R is a wonderful game when it comes to visuals. I can't wait to see how Episode Aegis turns out on that department

in a way i think most are kind of blind how history of this phenomon for persona has happend before with the psp remakes of p1-2. p1's psp ost goes even further at changing the atmosphere then reload ever did and i for one feel as though it misses the mark with what persona 1 is presenting narratively as the music played a key part, it also objectively is a downgrade with half the track size and a lot of repetition and constant re-use along with most of the tracks lasting 30 seconds on loop, this lead to p1 psp bombing in sales so for the later psp remakes the remixed ost slowly became more like the the original in each installment to the point ep psp is regarded as being superior (which is kind of funny with how it didn't come out the west).

The neagtive reactions about the Expansion Pass are justified, but I wish people kept that same energy for all the Day 1 DLC nonsense Atlus/Sega does! There's always a ton of $2 - $5 microtransactions at launch, despite the games being $60 or $70 (not including $100 Deluxe Editions), usually featuring stuff that used to be freely unlockable IN GAME. This includes their enhanced re-releases like P4G, P5R and now SMT V Vengeance... Games that SHOULD be the definitive versions with all content included at laumch, but instead have day 1 DLC & expansions passes built in anyway. Hell, Sega even paywalled New Game+ in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth! And recent rumors around Persona 6 said the game was 95% finished, but that Atlus is now working on the day 1 DLC for the game... 🙄 Love the games, hate the monetization practices.

In all honesty, I don't think Reload isn't bad at all, but still I prefer FES at his point. What I don't like in Reload is the fact that they almost took away the protag's (Makoto) agency without any player input. They were also cutscenes that were totally off like someone mentioned. Like for example, they took away the hand holding between Makoto and Aigis when she was hurt against Death (Ryoji) and that was another thing I didn't like about Reload. My first P3 I've played WAS P3FES which I'm happy about. I'll be perfectly honest, FeMC is another reason why the fandom of Persona is really bad sometimes, and we all know that she isn't really canon but in an alternate universe. Though I care about Makoto more than Kotone. And another thing, who even thought it would be a good idea to have the expansion pass in $35???? About the ending of Persona 3 Reload, it was obviously a improved, yet even more emotional ending that I literally cried for 3 - 4 hours straight. Except on the other hand, I did not like the after Nyx fight/Tartarus disappearing animation. I was expecting to see Makoto smiling as Aigis' tears started falling down finally. But nope, they went with Portable's dog water adaptation and Makoto walking out of school. Though, I love the fact that Aigis was the first to run to him. Also, I still prefer Makoto's awakening in the original more, but I wish they animated the scene instead of rendering. While I personally like Yuri Lowenthal's Makoto Yuki voice better, but Aleks Le's Makoto voice did perfectly also, and does fit him too. I do like the other voice actors who did the characters. To me, they've done it perfectly, so idk what exactly are they talking about. Most of the cutscenes in Reload are like the original and the movie, which I love. Except, some cutscenes like I said are off. The music isn't bad but still prefer the original on half of it. Overall, I think Reload is amazing, but missed the mark on what makes Persona 3 so special. A lot of ups and downs but still it's like the original and the movie, but needs more improvement of Reload itself.

I don’t mind looking at negative reviews cause you either see some valid takes that open your perspective, or you see the most hilariously outrageous takes ever
@Myafue5 ай бұрын
Most of the things mentioned in last review are actually valid, it all depends on the level of understanding of scriptwriting, scene direction, music and color theory. If you're not serious enough about the game as he is, you may not see as clear as he's able to analyze. And it's okay to have a surface-level understanding, a not be a persona nerd. The opening scene for me was a giant red flag, an insult if you will, to ruin it in such a way, means the director has no comprehension of what made the original cinematographic composition work and the implications for the rest of the game ...oh man. In general, the pattern is obvious, when old teams at Atlus were crafting their masterpieces they weren't selling very well, cult classics, yes, but oh no, the system requirements for a user's brain were higher, so the business strategy came as an obvious choice, let's make our games more approachable to reach a bigger audience, how exactly? Well, no other way, than to dumb things down, reduce difficulty, more and more spelling it out instead of provoking thoughts, making things less strategic and more comfy. Social link system should've been dropped after P4, it severly limits variety of what can be potentially done story-wise, since almost all of them must be available for a whole duration of the game so they must be written pretty neutral in relation to seasons, different world/social events, their locations can't be significantly changed of destroyed, so the shadow/demon activity must be kept in a confined virtual meta-world for most of the game's duration. It's insane how bloated P5 came out, especially Royal. It's way easier to replay the game when it's 30 to 60 hrs, but when 120+? You have to religiously play it and lose on sleep (Morgana will not forgive), to finish it in 2 month, while having a job. And it's the easiest game in persona series, even on merciless. And it just happens to be the best selling, also in terms of metacritic score - extremely high. We're seeing Atlus still milking it to no end. From a business perspective they are making correct decisions, as for creative vision, not so much, after all, new waifus, funneh memez and shiny menus is all we want, right?

People must really hate themselves because Atlus did a bang up job with P3R and is the best way to experience the game If you haven't already. I don't understand when people say portable is the definite way to play the game because lets face it, it was made in a time when they had to cut back elements of the game to make it work on a portable device, so it's ironic that people rather play a cut down version of P3.

As someone who has only played P5R and about half of P4G at the time of playing P3RE, I loved P3RE and felt it was exactly what I was looking for in a remake of an old persona game. I have since finished P3RE and P4G and now on my NG+ of P3RE in anticipation for P3EP:A. I CRAVE a remake in this style for P4G. As for the content of FES and Portable not being in the game, that unfortunately was Sega's fault as they gave a budget and release date for the game. The devs didn't wanna make Episode Aigis as DLC but they had no choice as the budget wasn't large enough and the time wasn't enough. We're lucky Sega budged and allowed them to make the answer. Realizing that the devs wanted to make this the definitive P3 game calms my soul a little bit but am disappointed that Korone's route will forever be stuck on P3P unless Sega allows them to either create another DLC or a free update however I doubt they will and at best require another full on budget to get past them, which I am sure Sega wants to use for other projects. The mod for the PC version of P3RE is promising but I think it'll be impossible to change out the social links entirely so the route will forever be trapped on P3P which fortunately is available to purchase on all modern consoles however this still does not excuse this tragedy that Korone will never officially be remade. I still loved P3RE however and hope to see P6 perform well as well as a possible P4G remake

Forgot to respond to this earlier but yeah I'd be down to talk about it cause truth be told (as I mentioned when you joined my server) I really do regret the way I approached that review in this video. If I could do this video over again I would've done it a lot differently because it was very rude to go about it the way I did. Even though the goal was to make the section funny and humorous it totally messed up the narrative I was trying to go for, which is that every version of P3 has it's ups and downs, but they're all good in their own right. Hence mentioning the cut content from Portable and the edge in atmosphere FES has in some regards. I'll definitely take the L on that one and I do apologize for putting you into a negative light

Ever since I completed every mainline game, Persona 3 has always been tied with 5 for my second favorite. Its characters, main story and themes have always been amazing. But Reload is what firmly put it over 5 for me for just one reason, the combat I know some people like P3's combat and I'm not going to discredit their feelings. They're completely different systems each doing their own things right and wrong. Me personally though? I have never dreaded actually playing a game. I'd even take Persona 1's combat over 3's. So when Reload came out and they made the combat closer to 5, I was certain this game would finally take it's spot as my second favorite and I was not disappointed

As a hot take, I think that last review has a lot valid and interesting arguments, and I wished you showed their argument about the final scene in the game with its full context to see where they're coming from. Of course there's a lot that I disagree with, like the UI, voice acting (except Koromaru, that definetly deserves criticism) and 2d artwork specially, I thought those were weak arguments, and they didn't expand too much on some of the story points in the review, but in terms of sound design, gameplay balance, aesthetic and storytelling elements I strongly agree with them. I of course don't hate the game as much as them, I think is a pretty good way to experience P3 and I'm glad new people are going to meet these characters, but seeing this review painted as unreasonable and "rage bait" rubs me the wrong way
@YandereGogeta5 ай бұрын
I didn't think it was rage bait at all and I pointed out that I was being the unreasonable one in the video. It was mainly for comedic effect. Like I mentioned earlier in the video all I really ask for out of a review is that people give their reasons for thinking the way they do, and they did, so yeah it wasn't a bad review at all.

@@YandereGogeta I was talking about the comments in the video when I mencioned the rage bait, I shoud've clarified lol. The music known as The Battle for Everyone's souls and Burn My Dread The Last Battle aren't as good as in Portable. Essentially Burn My Dread Last Battle, I kinda wish that it sounded a lot more emotional since we who have beaten the game knows what happens. I'm also in full agreement that I wish they added Femc from the beginning and didn't do their gready business strategies, the Answer at most should be 15-20 dollars. I still love the game, but it doesn't mean I don't have any problems with it.

I dunno if I'm just numb to it, or simply a wierdo(not that that's debatable), but I don't mind the cost of the Expansion Pass. Before we even heard about Reload, it was a common oppinion in the fandom that The Answer just plain sucks. As someone who plays The Sims, where you pay for the content you like, and not for the stuff you don't, I think it makes sense to make this optional for players who didn't care for the epilogue's story. And compared to the prices of other games that give DLC, this is honestly a steal. I WISH Simmers could get this level of content for the same price. It's also the same price of Pokemon's DLCs. Dragonball Xenoverse fans probably get about half this content for the same price. $35 is pretty common for DLC that adds whole new story and areas to explore, and if The Answer is anything to go by, it'll be more than worth it. Game making isn't cheap. In Ep Aigis alone, we're getting an entirely new dungeon to explore; a new character; new story, including the backstories for most of the main cast; and of course, 90% of it will be voiced. So they have to pay for new models, new animations, new programing, and new voice lines. That's not cheap, and these people deserve to be paid their full wages for their work

As someone who never played Portable or PES, I didn't know what to expect going into my first playthrough of Reload. I have played Persona 5 Royal and Strikers as well as dabbling in Persona 4 Golden (which isn't my favorite Persona game personally, but I digress). While I do agree that there are certain aspects that could have been improved upon seeing comparisons between the original Persona 3 and Reload, I certainly can't say it's all bad. I'll start with the music, since it's the most subjective and I have the least to say about it. As far as the music goes, there are definitely songs I like and songs I don't, and please forgive me because I haven't been able to go through the entire soundtrack and learn all the names of the songs yet. On the one hand, songs like Changing Seasons are really amazing ambient music in my opinion, but the song that plays when SEES has the advantage in battle (I'm not sure of the title) isn't the best in my opinion. It doesn't feel as though I've got the advantage when I sneak up on a Shadow and ambush them when that song plays. To use Persona 5 Royal specifically, Last Surprise was a good battle theme for sure, but when you sneak up on a Shadow and ambush them to be greeted by the Takeover track, it's amazing. Takeover goes hard, which I feel is necessary for a battle theme unless there's a particular theme behind the battle (such as a more somber battle between two people who don't wish to fight). I'm certainly not trying to compare Personas 3 and 5 in any way, though, because as someone who's played through at least half the game at this point, they're two completely different experiences. I do think that the similar UI makes for a much better experience because of, for lack of a better word, the quality-of-life changes. Other than that, I don't really see much similarity between them other than the protagonist being a silent one, though that's true for a lot of JRPG characters across the board, which isn't a criticism coming from me. My favorite part of Persona 3 Reload, however, like with Persona 5), is the story that is woven through the characters and events of the plot. Never do I see a conversation between the main cast or watch a cutscene or spend time with a Social Link and think "God, this is so boring." Actually, quite the opposite! For example, the October 4th cutscene with Akihiko has been the most impactful scene in the game for me so far because I've definitely felt what he was feeling in that scene in my own life. While I did choose to go down the Yukari romance route as far as that goes since I feel it's the "safest" option for the first playthrough (I mean, her Social Link IS the Lovers Arcana), I have really gotten close to a lot of the characters personally, as most of them have been through something I've experienced in my own life. I feel like all of the characters are written expertly and are really well-rounded in terms of personality in my opinion. My two favorite characters are going to be Akihiko and Yukari personally, but I could definitely see arguments for all of the characters (including the wonderful Fuuka). I really like the theme of overcoming the fear of death, as it represents a very real fear that I have myself. The dungeon of Tartarus (while the name is wonderfully on the nose) is a dungeon that does things right and does things... not so right. I personally think that the form of a tower rather than taking the literal mythology location of the "depths of the underworld" makes Tartarus a very worthwhile location to have as the central plot point. That said, I feel like the lack of distinct floor divides (I'm on floor 100 and have seen a total of three different environment styles) is pretty underwhelming, but I'm not saying that takes from the dungeon itself seeing that the external design of Tartarus is impeccable. Overall, I think Persona 3 is a wonderful game. Persona 5 is my favorite personally, but Persona 3 is my close second for sure. It's a wonderfully crafted experience. It's not perfect, but I'd like for someone to name a perfect story (I'll wait). Definitely an 8.5/10 for me!

I’m someone who really loved reload but also was a fan of the original and while i would say i enjoy “playing” p3r a lot more, i would not be happy with lots of people only experiencing the persona 3 through p3r. I definitely agree with the cutscene criticisms and personally feel the 2d ones look a lot more interesting and much better fit p3s atmosphere. I didn’t like the opening cutscene for p3r because I think being able to interact with the street takes away both from pacing and mr door’s personality. He just seems so much less unbothered and apathetic at the beginning as a result. In general i thought it was very strange the way they allocated resources. Why are the SEES outfits given a cutscene instead of many of the key story cutscenes (it’s for trailers)? Frankly for a game at this price point, a lot more things should have 2d cutscenes and, when they are there, they’re beautiful. For me p3r has a lot of really strong points: beautiful UI, more to do with SEES, makes Tartarus way less tedious (as someone who generally finds persona gameplay gets old fast but if you love it i’m sure you might disagree), theurgies and personality skill things add lots of personality, excellent japanese voice acting. I think the music was good. P3r has better music for the background I would say, but i like listening to the originals more when it’s not as bgm. With voice acting, I think it’d be better if people experienced this game with japanese voices as these are excellent across the board and quite literally true to the original. These jp vas are truly some of the biggest and best of the last 30 years. Both og p3 and p3r on the other hand have mixed quality English dubs. I actually do like a lot of the vas and performances in both but i think there was some bad direction/casting going on and it’s reflected in how it does not match the original characters portrayed by the japanese voicing. At the end of the day if people like it, they can like it but I don’t and would urge people to go for the original japanese voices for this game. I also am someone who thinks femc should stay as a portable thing or an add-on since it changes p3’s tone and characters enough that it isn’t a simple gender switch so i’m not upset they didn’t add her. Ofc the dlc management for p3r is bad and i won’t be buying it (will probably watch it tho). Overall I had a really good time and would recommend p3r to new players over the old versions. QoL and aesthetics are very strong for p3r but please consider also looking at the old cutscenes as p3 really doesn’t feel complete without them. The new content definitely is enough to justify playing it again for returning players. It’s a very fun and thought-provoking game as expected

P3R is a good companion piece to P3FES that will be treated as a replacement because it's more pallatable. I liked it well enough, especially after link episodes started, but it falls short of the original in a few key areas, chief among them being combat. It feels better, but it's so much easier I'm almost insulted. P3fes wasn't that hard. It had multiple cycles of power-curving, where you get to a new area and are actually almost useless, grind up, get so powerful the shadows won't even fight you, push through a challenging floor boss and repeat. It was a good system. Reload feels almost like a performatice retelling of the original.

I feel like if they removed shifting, brought back the AI party members (hot take, I know), but kept the option for direct control, I would've liked it way more. I know you can have the AI party members, but it feels like the AI for them has gotten progressively worse from game to game after 3. It feels borderline unplayable with them now. Besides the gameplay, everything aside from some songs in the soundtrack is an improvement, especially the voice acting. While I do miss some voices, especially Aigis, they did an amazing job on the recasting of everyone.

Since this video is all about criticism ig i can give my take on it. Relating to the tartarus point, yes i did play 5 before 3 but the random generation wasn't why i didn't care for tartarus. The real problem was...actually exploring tartarus is incredibly clunky? Between the awkard geometry you need to traverse and the weird ass arc your sword takes, it was something i never cared to explore for, and felt very mind numbing. Still better than 4's never ending hallways they call dungeons tho. In terms of the atmosphere argument, while yes it is 3's theme as a story, is also kind of boring for the only dungeon in the game? Most of the locales look like varying motifs of a school zone, and on top of that desolation as a concept means there's only nothingness left in tartarus. From a story perspective it works, but from a gameplay perspective that only adds to the mind numbing gameplay that is exploring tartarus and looping the shadows. Emptiness leads to lack of stimulation in terms of level design after all. Add all this together and i honestly struggle to remember much abour what goes on in tartarus aside from the block visual motifs. Like actually i can't even remember any of the gate keepers now
