I actually liked the "bad" social links. I think it makes the game more realistic that you interact with truly awful people. It's just like in real life, not everyone is a good person.

Pretty good list, and thank you for motioning that there are both platonic and romance based routes. So many people still dont get the romance flag mechanics and those routes kinda take away from the core of the links and give a very different feel imo

What can I say, to me Maya is one of the best Social Links in the game simply because it is hilarious. You mostly get to hear her vent about her issues in the game and her writing and cringey lingo just cracks me up. And I DEFINITELY don't see her as "trying to groom the MC" because she never really acts on it, she just admits to a crush, which definitely isn't "grooming" lol, but unlike P5 you don't get a romance option with her, and while the player (and likely the protagonist) gets to figure out who she is before the epilogue, she doesn't even realize who you are until said epilogue and is never really seen making anything resembling an advance towards him. I also enjoy Tanaka's purely because he is fun, sure, as a person he is actually pretty terrible, and I do hate greedy businessman types with a passion, but he's so unapologetic and over the top about it that it feels like satire and like it's making fun of them. Also the "threats" he makes to you early on are just very funny. I don't like his English voice though, but then again I play Persona with JP voices for immersion. Also ngl while I don't dislike either Odagiri or Kaz, they are IMO the biggest offenders of one issue P3 has, which is the fact that the right answers if you want to gain points and advance them without wasting time is to be a yes man for them and encourage their bad behavior until they start developing, which always felt wrong to me. Sure it happens to others as well, but with those two in particular it always felt especially egregious. I am someone who personally heavily dislikes strictness and having rules imposed on me, so I had a REAL hard time warming up to Odagiri and he's still on the low end for me. P3 just overall I feel like always had the weakest set of SLs in the series with only a few outliers.

I already know Moon is near the bottom, but I wanna explain why I think it's actually well written. So, as a certain sun politician said, "Please, consider what I have to say!" Now, I'm not best at explaining stuff but I'll do my best. Nozomi's social link is a very accurate representation of the moon arcana, the arcana is about illusions and anxiety mostly. You can obviously see his love of eating as a coping mechanism, and also as an illusion to hide the actual pain he feels over not being able to live up to his brother. These all fall perfectly in line with the moon arcana and it's symbolism. I also just think that it's entertaining. I mean, he literally moonwalks into a restaurant in one of his links. Idc what people say, that's king shit. Honestly, I feel like people don't like it just cause he's weird, and it probably doesn't help that being a moon means that he is naturally not a joy to be around. But that's the point, he's supposed to be weird and ugly and a bit of a bad person. I also find it ironic that I hear people talking about how they wish there were more social links with bad or weird people. But when they get those social links, they don't like them because they're bad or weird. That's what it seems like to me at least.

I dont understand s links with more "bad" or weird people because the whole point is that you want to make legitamate bonds with people that you are intended to like or deeply trust. Why would our protagonist trust explicitly bad people or approach someone who is shady and their intentions aren't good when it ia revealed to them especially there is no benefit the protagonist recieves from the relationship. I think nozomi sucks because ultimately the changes he makes doesnt change the fact that he did indeed scam a child and his wanton eating habits doesn't necessarily change at the end. It also doesnt help that atlus makes a joke about his apparent eating disorder so the game itself is making a tasteless fat joke ontop of him being a bad person from start to finish. So idk pretty valid reason for me to think he sucks.

I love Tanaka but Reload did kind of make me like him less through the voice acting which had an adverse effect on me. In the original the voice I had in my head of him was more in line with a Spongebob villain which made me like him through silliness whereas the english Reload VA which I'm pretty sure also voices Dio makes him feel more like a real con man.The Japanese VA fits more with how I originally saw him.

The worst thing I did when it came to Reload’s first playthrough is that I avoided doing Shinji’s linked episode to completion to try to get max social link achievement in my first run (i missed it by a day). Missed out on something great 😔 Also, Fuuka may or may not enjoy 🍋

He honestly feels like one of the most unique links because of how much of a bad first impression he leaves. Probably second to only to Ohya in the whole series. But then his investigation begins and you see how deep his conviction runs even as everyone around him dismisses him and you pretty much become his only friend. He even has a neat character arc. Honestly more of a character arc that Makoto (Niijima), who pretty much feels like a gender bent Odagiri with Chie’s insecurities.

I’m so sick of people just saying Nozomi sucks because he isn’t a good person. Like, no offence, but this list just ranks people in order of how good of a person they would be in real life. Nozomi is a really deep character with his whole inferiority crisis, maybe the deepest in the game, and even though he’s delusional and flawed, he has a really good story. People just hate him because he’s ugly and fat (even though that’s the point of his inferiority crisis), and that he doesn’t fully undo the scamming. It would be out of place for him to give the money back to that man, who I’d argue he’s a worse person because he tried to beat up a child as revenge, and probably doesn’t deserve the money. I also felt good spending time with him, because he didn’t have any friends and needed someone like the protagonist to help him improve himself.

Please do not sum up people not liking him because he’s fat or ugly. I hate him because I hate his writing. That is all it has NOTHING to do with his physical appearance. Fat and ugly characters, such as Kaneshiro and Kubo, tend to be villains or characters you are supposed to hate. Name a character in fiction who’s fat or ugly who is an amazing person. It just doesn’t exist. And as a result people expect to hate him. Also, I could be wrong, but I don’t believe there was any confirmation that he scammed anyone else. He scammed that man’s son and he was going to scam those two other dudes but he didn’t. Aside from that, I don’t think it’s ever said that he scammed anyone else. But even if he did, you’re only proving my point more by saying his story is garbage because he didn’t take a full 180 at the end. That doesn’t make a good story, and I don’t think it should be the metric the quality of these links is measured on.

There are so many fat characters that are good in fiction bro what??? Bo Rai’ Cho from Mortal Kombat, Bob from Tekken, Patrick from SpongeBob, Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince for a live action example, Po from Kung Fu Panda, Winnie the Pooh, Fat Gum from My Hero Academia, King Kai from Dragon Ball Z, and so many others. Not all fat people are portrayed as bad that is factually incorrect, and same goes for people who are “ugly.” It is confirmed that he scammed other people he mentions it, and the fact he runs away from it and doesn’t confront it at all does take away from his character actually yeah. He solved his internal problem and completely ignored everything. He doesn’t even feel BAD about it as shown by the fact he doesn’t mention it a single time, so he actually does make a complete 180 because he has no other internal issue by the end. My issue is actually the fact that he DID make a complete 180 with no other issues besides what he says in rank 10. If he at the very least said “hey protagonist I’ve been a real jerk. I need to be better to people from now on and I’ll do my best,” then that’s all they had to do. Show that he acknowledges his scamming past, but he doesn’t. At all. A complete 180 with no build up across the other 9 ranks which is terrible writing.

@@YandereGogeta My main point was ugly, not fat. I just threw the word fat in there because it is true most of the time, especially in Japanese media. (Also 80% of those characters are animals or cartoonish depictions of people but that’s not my point.) You kind of just said “oh yeah ugly people too” but there weren’t any real examples. I looked through the entire link, I could’ve missed it but I doubt it because I saw every line the child’s father says, and I doubt Nozomi would mention it because, as you said, he doesn’t acknowledge it. And it makes sense he doesn’t talk about his internal complex because he wouldn’t realistically talk about that. However there are implications why he’s like this though what he says. And he literally says in the final rank that he’s a terrible person. Yeah, he doesn’t mention the scamming specifically, but he does say he’s awful and wants to change. And if I am right to say he only scammed one person who was terrible anyway, it wouldn’t be even necessary to specify it. And is it really the worst in the series because he didn’t specify that he was bad specifically because of the scamming? Even if he didn’t improve that much, it doesn’t mean the story’s bad. For a story to be good, the character doesn’t need to become a completely unflawed saint of a person by the end.

Ugly is subjective of course but here are ones you can debate to be “ugly” Mashiba from Hajime no Ippo, Tomoko Kuroki from WataMote, Shigeki from Jojo’s, Sakura Oogami from Danganronpa, Koji Koda from My Hero Academia, Shoji also from My Hero Academia, Abe from Abe’s Odyssey, and Shrek and Fiona since their whole thing is them being outcasted for being an ogre and their appearance in the movie
