Would you consider doing a comparison of Timberline Pros Powertrain and Danner Lead Times? I’ve worked at a warehouse retailer for 2.5 years now (Co$+co) and finding good shoes for toe protection and walking/standing on concrete all day is tough. My counterparts all have the same struggle, in search of the Goldilocks shoe for this work. I am an advocate of shoe rotation so they dry and protect your feet, plus material recovery from compression. I have used the following brands with a comment on each: Timberline Pro Powertrain - best for comfort and protection so far. Have lasted a solid year in the rotation. Foam is flattening out. Hoka -all leather nurse shoe. Rolling foam. Comfy to start, wore awkwardly quickly. No protective toe. Merrill-Composite toe. Stiff sole, never broke in with use correctly, uncomfortable. Keen-Composite toe. Squishy. Good for no more than 5 hours. Ok material recovery. Meh. Dr. Marten loafer cut. No protective toe. Great looking shoe. Crap for working like this. Replacing Powertrains soon ( I use them the most ) and came across the Danner Lead Time. I used Danner Acadias in my previous life a lot and have loved their boots (except when they farmed some out to Vietnam factories, QC issues). If you made it this far, thanks. Really enjoy your videos. Be well. From Far Northern California

They also put the logo on the outside of the foot instead of the most inside, which I personally dislike. I prefer the inner step logo of the Cons and old PFs

I have been a long time fan of PFs. I prefer the style of them over chucks, but I’m not the biggest fan of the direction of PF these days. Under NB ownership, they brought nearly identical reproduction pieces of the original styles whereas today they are messing with the recipe to make them more modern and trendy. The heritage sneaker style is why I loved them so much in the first place. The prices have also gone up quite a bit. I hope they listen to some fans and bring back more old school style.

I have a couple of pairs of PF Flyers from the early 2010s (New Balance Era). There is definitely something to the insoles. They give a bit of arch support that makes PF Flyers feel more supportive and comfortable than Converse Chucks. It’s too bad the new owner got rid of the insoles. I suppose you just buy aftermarket insoles, but the insoles were a big part of the brand’s history. Also, looking at the one you cut in half, I don't like stylistic changes the new ownership made. Seems like change just for change sake.

Chucks in Japan JDM market is somewhat much better quality than PF's (either Made in Japan or Made in Indonesia), whole lot of variations there, Converse CPD, All Star Coupe (full leather collection, often collaborates with Japanese tannery, Made in Japan version is the most expensive Converse I saw), Converse Addict (better quality than Chuck 70, and use Vibram outsole), White Atelier, Converse Made in Japan (manufactured by Moonstar in Kurume, the guys that make boutique vulcanized shoes like Shoes Like Pottery, DOEK, PRAS 2015)

I really like my All-American suede PF Flyers. They have a little tab on the back that for me, makes it impossible to go back to any hi-top that doesn't have one. They have some new All-American Hi-Tops I'd be curious to see cut in half. Despite their name, they are not made in the USA, which is a bummer, but again, I really like mine. I also got them on sale, so there's also that.

I had purchased a pair of Chuck 70's a couple months ago. Tawny Owl. The fit was brutally narrow, crushing my pinkie toes. I don't even have wide feet. The canvas yellowed so fast. I decided to replace them with a pair of flyers in center hi brown. They are a bit wider in the toe box and definitely way more comfortable for me. I even prefer the insole. The look is a little more basic but I actually really like that. The colorway is superior as well, close to my Red Wing 875's. My only gripe is that the tongue slips a lot. I think both sneakers have something great to offer everybody, it all comes down to fit and preference. But I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I also like the high top Pro-Keds. They are very comfortable too. I was going to buy some PF Flyers but at the time they were unavailable so I got the Pro-Keds. I really like them as much as the Chuck 70's and they look pretty cool too. I had Sears high top Jeepers as a kid for a while and apparently they were made by Converse. We wore Roebucks jeans too.

I still got my made in USA PFs I got years ago. They've lasted and lasted. It's got a layer of leather inside and says 'made in usa' on the circle patch and the sole. Kinda sucks that I can't get it again when these finally get worn out. I got them after wearing through a pair of Converse sneakers that split around the toe box area, seems it couldn't handle the daily flexing after a few years. The PFs, at least the Made in USA version were much higher quality in my opinion

I recently purchased here in the UK for the first time a pair of US Rubber Co. They're so comfortable. They're the same as Novesta, so I'm not sure who copied who. Personally, I don't like Converse because the toe box is just too narrow, even if I size up. Moonstar is good, but the sizing is horrible if you're in between sizes. Visvim is ridiculously overpriced; I checked them recently, and even with the Vibram soles and leather lining, £600 is just way too much. The canvas was thin, the leather thinner, and the insoles not great.

Yes, Ray Bradbury had that story about the romance of new summer sneakers and how they made you jump higher and fly and run automatically and all that, but of course, with the old sneakers, that sensation only lasts about a week and a half if you're lucky. I never saw the old PF in the stores when I was growing up, so I never got to experience if the arch support was better, but I probably wouldn't have bought them anyway because they didn't have the Star logo on the side, so they would have made one more an outcast wearing the knock-off model, etc. Of course, when I got a little older, I stopped buying the high tops altogether because I really didn't like the way they felt and didn't care if the other teens thought the low versions were more dorky or whatever.
