Is Pikmin 4 a Prequel?

Not sure if it'll be brought up, but I find the pikmin 4 prequel idea to be flawed for one main reason- Olimar named the Pikmin and the Onion, and everything else. For a prequel to 1 to ever happen, that'd require the term "Pikmin" to never be used, ever. I find that highly unlikely

Yeah I was gonna bring that up too. Plus it's not just the pikmin and onion he named. Most life on that planet was probably named by him. I don't even know how a pikmin 1 prequel would be possible.

Spoilers: A koppaite straight up says that koppai is going through a population boom, and is running out of food, this leads up to the events of Pikmin 3, plus, one of the koppaites it straight up related to alph. Plus I think that don bergmann is a father or grandfather to charlie. Don bergmann has had a rubber duck too, just like charlie. Either bergmann passed the ducky onto charlie, or charlie inherited his love of ducks from don. And Nelle is probably Brittany’s aunt. Not aunt bea, but another aunt.

It could be a prequel to Pikmin 3, but still take place after Pikmin and Pikmin 2.

given the world map in 3 theres a couple possibilities . either the characters have reeeeally long life spans , theres some interstellar style time dilation involved in the warp drives (which is a horrifying thought) , they can time travel , or humanity has gone thru an extinction cycle already and ended up right back to where we are present day technology wise or theyre just having fun with the worldbuilding lol . honestly , i never felt like pikmin 1 and 2 were post apocalyptic , but after pikmin 3 its like ….. the entire planets ecosystem and geography are different and theres no sign of humanity in sight . i think a pikmin game where humans are alive and well and just magically unaware of the existence of pikmin or totally used to it is an interesting concept ! it reminds me of elebits !

In the trailer, during the red and ice pikmin cutscenes, you can see that they are referred to as pikmin, and olimar named them pikmin in thie first game, so it wouldn't make sense for this to be a prequel

this is definitely a stretch, but i kinda want to imagine that maybe humans survived whatever apocalypse occurred before Pikmin 1, and Pikmin 4 is humanity finally rebuilding. I keep imagining there being a moment where like a human sits on the bench while your doing something under it and you’re only able to see their giant legs and the captains make some report that night about how they discovered a gargantuan monster

My thoughts are the same as yours. The impression I've been getting is that Pikmin 4 just takes place in an area of PNF-404 that wasn't hit as hard by the apocalypse. That, or just a stylistic choice like you said

personally, I like to think all the humans mysteriously disappeared ya know just poof gone and that's how everything is still pristine it didn't take years for them to all disappear a matter of seconds, how'd they disappear? who knows maybe it's dumb but we can't really conferm or deny anything

Personally i'd say that this actually confirms it's a sequel rather than hinting at a prequel at all. Pikmin 1 was by far the most overtaken by nature, while Pikmin 2 added some more human touches. 3 took that even further with places like the Garden of Hope. And now 4 is yet another step. In the Piklopedia for one of the treasures, Olimar mentions that it's really weird that the geography changed so much since his last trip to the planet, and considering the allusion to some mysterious being or force potentially causing the Drake to crash, i think it's safe to say that something strange is going on with PNF-404, whether the flow of time is *reversed* or something else entirely

In regards to the food treasures in Pikmin 2, they're probably actually plastic models. Little plastic display models of foods are a cute novelty item in Japan

That's not how they're described in the captain's journal. Some of the fruits in Pikmin 2 return in Pikmin 3, where you're collecting them specifically as food.

i just realized that if pikmin 4 would be a prequel, then why would there be a master onion? because a master onion only came into existence after pikmin 3, unless the onion used to be able to fuse into a master onion but lost the ability to do so for some time then remembered how to do it. but the 3 other original onions where beyond repair and couldn't be fixed? and that's (maybe?) how we got the design for the pikmin 3 master onion. but idk.

It would be really cool to have a giant human stomping around. Like, you enter a cave that’s themed after that house in the background, and then you just see these giant shoes and legs that chase after you on certain levels (kind of like the water wraith, I guess). You never actually see the whole person, just their shoes and legs.

There's a theory on KZbin that says that the planet is constantly going through time travel, so the planet shifts in time between every game, which explains why the planet changes so much between games. So going by that theory, Pikmin 4 is not a prequel, but it takes place at an earlier period of time on the planet. @@flamsey Well I think the fact that Pikmin 4 appears to be earlier in time than the previous games supports the theory. It doesn't prove it, but it supports it.

@Paradox they would have probally showed you in the trailer but also you can see there's multiple landing spots unless those landing spots are very special there not lasting a few years. Also castaways would be dead if you time traveled
