10:14 I think this only works as Pikmin 3 doesn't reduce your squad/field count and count Pikmin as dead right away, only when the ghost pops up. Same with all hazards. However, this was changed in Pikmin 4. I noticed that when Pikmin get crushed or play the final death animation from hazards, the squad/field count depletes immediately, so this glitch is most likely impossible to replicate in 4.

The leaderboard is probably based on the Real Time Attack times, so how much time you've spent in real life to complete the run (measured in hours basically). If he needed to retry the day 50 times he will easily have been much, much slower than a 10 days run with no retries. Although I assume that a 9 days run where you nail this trick the first time would easily crush the RTA world record if anyone ever manages to complete it.

reminds me of when someone did a lowest percent of stardew valley (i think) because the wiki said you needed 103 or whatever golden walnuts and X amount of levels and progress, and they said "nah, i'm going to prove this wrong". which is an attitude i love in a video 😂, also 100% me energy (literally tamed every single dinosaur, then tried riding them into every cave (walking, flying, jumping, and any other forms of movement) trying for up to 10 minutes per dinosaur, then going and correcting a couple fandom pages before i noticed they were getting rejected and i was like "alright go fuck yourselves then. i was going to give the community a detailed, 100% tested & up to date accurate fleshed out list. but yeah sure, fuck you" and there are some very surprising finds i had can't wait for the very end of the video where he says something like "and this entire video is pointless because there's a save file corruption glitch you can do to get basically everything done on day 1" or something
