@no_nameyouknow4 жыл бұрын
Metriod came out on the NES. I get what you are saying, but I think the "freedom" was felt so strongly because of the novelty of 3d and the fluidity and fun of controlling mario. As I said, Metriod had freedom, zelda, Final Fantasy, plenty of NES games offered freedom but it's not as fun and unique to just move around in those games like it was in mario 64.
@justsomebody-16654 жыл бұрын
Its exactly how I felt when Super Mario Bros 2 came out. There was no time limit like SMB 1, and you could scroll to the right AND back to the left again. The required effort to make sure franchises like this do not just flop on today market makes sure companies like Nintendo stay away from risky moves like bringing some of their old IPs back. The main reason Splatoon got to be is because the "competitive shooter/moba/etc." boom made sure it didn't just fade away into obscurity. We may see companies making references, working cameos, or even spicing some of their games with mechanics reminicent of those games of yore, but they actually bringing them back on a full release is a totally different story.

A lot of people here mentioning Pilotwings Resort on 3DS, but probably don't realize that Wii Sports Resort was essentially a Pilotwings games mashed with Wii Sports. The 3DS game is an expanded remake of the Pilotwings content (called Air Sports) in Wii Sports Resort. I say expanded instead of enhanced because while it does have slightly more content, but the 3DS game overall is a downgrade from Wii Sport Resort. The Wii game does everything better than the 3DS even though there is less of it; it is so much smoother with much, much better graphics.

2:54 that statement made me realize; Most of us have change in a peculiar way when it comes to gaming: When young, I remember frenetic plataformers where the _good stuff,_ jumping then to RPGs and Survival Horrors when hitting teenagedom. Megaman X (honorable mention to SMW2: Yoshi's Island), Secret of Mana and Resident Evil where my "tiers" meanwhile growing up, games played absolutelly for the "thrills" they gave me. Now a days, I could go through those kind of games but for very different reasons; My older mind now trifled with stress, work and whatnot finds "just chilling out", well, fun?
