Your parenting of these kids is just so beautiful. I work in child protection and out of home care in Australia, and sometimes, when I have a really bad day at work; when I'm feeling like I'm doing more harm than good, or feeling a sense of hopelessness; I watch one of your videos. When you're focussed on harm and protection, you don't often get to see much of the love and healing. The privilege of getting to see a snapshot of your lives is very healing and motivating.

I think you have an exceptional physique but I'm more interested in seeing how exceptional you are with the kids. And you are. I'm sorry others may have focused on a less important aspect of who you are. In other news, I also have indoor plants outside and am thinking of bringing them inside. But not quite yet. I know this is a three year old video, but I was just going to say, and then you commented that, THERE IS POWER IN WORDS. We may not always see the consequences of what we say, or how it affects someone. But on the other hand, we can't go through life guarding our words in fear that it may hurt someone. We just don't know. Mental Health is such a complex science, with its subtle and nonsublte aspects. Self confidence is the most important attribute we could ask for in our lives.

On the subject of weight loss, looking at it from another perspective. If a person has struggled all their life to lose weight and they have finally figured it out and managed, through much hard work, to get themselves into a healthier weight, it makes their day when someone makes a comment. And it vastly positively affects their mental health. It’s so encouraging when others notice and mention your success.

You guys are always wonderful. On PJ's Weight Loss, how about just Damn!! Looks amazing. I do know what you mean about how people can be insensitive in their comments. I have recently finished losing a lot of weight (85 pounds) and some people who do not see me for a while sometimes freak out when they do, and can be less than supportive. (Are you sick? You look too skinny! What happened?) I hope they mean well, but this has been hard work now for the last 3 years. I am happy with it. As long as you are healthy and you keep checking on your statistics (heart rates, BMI, Fat %, Healthy weight for your Height, ETC) you are good to go! Oh, and those cordless tools are amazing. Very thoughtful gift. We made ours even better by purchasing one more charger and two more batteries. I like seeing all those happy solid red lights that tell me I am good to go! Thanks guys!! First of all, PJ still looks H.O.T! Here is my take on this - while I am (very) much ...more 'mature' in age, I, too, have lost a lot of weight during this C-19 thing. The relative isolation just seemed to aggravate my already high strung and needy-sensitive personality. Not easy to keep a good balance in these times. His body type and mine are the same. When I am active and energetic, I work hard, eat a lot, and almost never gain or lose any weight. But over the last months I have lost about 13 pounds due to lethargy, worry, skipping meals, and trouble sleeping. If that's all it is, then we will both be fine and bulking up real soon. Hope that's all it is. XOXO

Just finally got around to watch this video this morning after a hectic last night, and I'm still only halfway through now, but I had to come and thank you before watching any further, Thomas. What you said regarding comments that have been made about PJ's weight was extremely nice to hear, as I am one of many men who has been diagnosed with and treated for an eating disorder. I am glad PJ is simply experiencing the side effects of no gym and hot weathered working conditions, but am sad for you and your friend too, as I know that's a hard conversation to have - for both parties involved. I'm sure she is glad you two had that talk though, even if you unintentionally, of course, might have encouraged some unhealthy behaviours of hers, it sounds like, with your first reaction. I hope she is getting some help, as living with an ED is no way to live. Everyday is more challenging when it is controlling you, no matter how in control of it you think you may be at the time. You're a great man, husband, and father from what I have seen in a short time watching the videos on this channel, Thomas. You and PJ have become very important to me, as I try to work though the mental and physical traumas inflicted upon me throughout junior and senior high school in my therapy sessions. You two are helping me to rewrite how I view myself as a twenty year young man hopelessly attracted to other men. I am certainly damaged from repeated intolerant experiences, but this channel has been helping me to heal those wounds that have been inflicted upon me, and to stop telling myself the truths that I have been told or shown as such by others in my head - things that you two are showing me might not actually be true at all. You two have given me hope for the first time in eight years or so that the cognitive dissonance holding me prisoner in my own mind can one day, at the very least mostly, go away. For all this I thank you, as you two really have had a confounding but profound impact upon me. Oh, wow, sorry! I did not mean to unload and unload like I did, but now that I have, I feel strange about shortening everything that I have written. So, I guess I will just leave things with this: take care, PJ and Thomas, and I will catch you in your next video. Until then...

If I have not seen someone in some time & they have a new hair style, lost weight or just look great, I will compliment them. You brought up some very interesting things to think about in this video. I didn't comment about his weight, because quite frankly I didn't notice, I'm too busy thinking about the task at hand to notice. But I can think of times in the past where I've said something like that, in person that is, to people I know, and I never really thought about it coming across as a negative way. I guess if you really think about it, what if someone you haven't seen has been diagnosed with something serious in their lives, and that's the reason for the loss, hmmm, that's not good, and very uncomfortable for both people. Thanks for bringing something up I never thought of as a negative, but could possibly be in the future. 😘

I would like to share a little of my past experience with "weight loss problems". Time was back in the mid 1980s, when I was in my early 20s, there was hardly anything to me for a while. The main contributing factor was the job I had at the time. It was housekeeping, cleaning hotel rooms and men burn more calories doing that than women. We were allowed only so much time to a room and the constant "go-go-go" skyrocketed my metabolism so basically I looked like I had just "melted away to nothing". That's also one of the lowest paying occupations there was so I didn't get paid enough to be afford to eat as much as I wanted. I had mono once during that time frame and even the doctors were baffled as to why I had lost so much weight. I still say it was my job. Thomas took the words right out of my mouth about comments about it and how they affect people. I couldn't go anywhere or see anyone without hearing about it and that did have a very negative effect on my mental health and it continued for several years. Now I'm in my late 50s and have a decent amount of weight on me. I would rather not have an access belly, but because of all I had to shoulder in the past I think, "I either don't loose it, or I'll hear about it and I won't like it!" People too often aren't mindful with what they say words do have power.

I can really relate to your statement about how comments about weight can really be hurtful. I, like PJ, always had a very active metabolism. It was such a struggle to put on and maintain weight. As a skinny, gay man who came out in the late 80's and early 90's, at the height of the AIDS crises, you can only imagine the comments that gay and straight people made to me all the time. Sometimes people were genuinely concerned but it still felt so intrusive and inappropriate. As problematic as it was for me I could only feel compassion for people who actually had AIDS and had to deal with people constantly asking them inappropriate questions and making hurtful comments. We really must be more mindful. Now I'm in my 50's and have no problem gaining or maintaining weight. There's got to be a happy medium!

No, of course "it's not this cold back at home", Thomas; open country is always colder than built- up areas; concrete and asphalt and wood and tiles from houses and roads not only absorb the day's heat but then release it later in the day, so making towns and cities warmer than pastureland, which doesn't. Love your vlogs.

Can we get an update on where the kids are in their fostering process? Are they still going to eventually go back to their parents or family?

I can imagine it can feel awkward when people say things about PJ’s weight loss. But I think this is also the result of how you present yourselves and especially PJ. He walks around shirtless, most of the time, so you see he is losing weight. Then there is his anxiety, which PJ has talked about before and makes PJ act sometimes unexpectedly weird. One notices. People also focus on PJ all the time is because most, or all attention goes to PJ, as Thomas is usually filming. PJ always gets compliments, PJ is in the center, and although he is a great and energetic guy, I think Thomas deserves to be put in the spotlights too. That way not all the focus is on PJ.

Just watched your most amazing video.. What a great way for me to relax on a Tuesday evening.. I wish we were getting your cooler Fall weather in Southern California.. We have yet another Heatwave in coming tomorrow.. I'm a Fall and Winter person, so I love cold weather.. The cottage looks so amazing.. And I love The Fall decor at the main home.. PJ the plants add such an inviting and earthy warm look to the living room.. You guys are hilarious too.. And Thomas, I really like what you said about the weight comments... Thank you gentlemen. Enjoy the rest of your week..

That was a well made and very beautiful video VLOG !!!! I turned 59 years old in May and I graduated from High School on 06-13-1980 to which in my utter belief was more than 40 years ago. I am a full generation older than the both of you and I do 100% agree with you Thomas with your comment of what you said on a weight of a person. Take it from this old man of 59, forty years ago and that time in 1980 ( I was 19 year old then) they were still talking about weight and that if a person did not fill the norms of being the perfect weight and did not look that filled the requirement looking good the way society wanted you to look, a person was rejected by society. For in 1980 I was one of those people and It is so sad that 40 years later that this is still case and the and the same norms of 40 years ago still apply of what our society still makes judgments on a person for what weight they are at and how they look. From my perspective, things have not changed at all. I strongly believe that a person should be solely judged on what is in a person and what is in his or her personality, how they care for the fellow human beings, also how they treat their fellow human beings, and what love and compassion they have to offer to our society. A person should not be judged solely by their weight and the way they look. A person should solely be judged on what they contribute to society by their treatment of their fellow human beings , the caring and compassion that person has to offer to the human race, and how they make our society better. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you Thomas for bringing this subject up for discussion for it can bring a positive way of thinking and bring change to our society of the standards on which we all judge people. I send my best to you both, your three children, and to both of your families. Your friend Bryan from San Lorenzo California.

I am not a regular follower, I just clicked on two of your vids, that were filmed a couple of years apart and when you see PJ directly compared it is really worrying, so I totally get that you were getting comments about this. Glad he is ok.

This may have already been addressed, I just have not watched all the videos, but do y'all anticipate adopting all the kids someday? Also I have not made it to the weight loss part, but as long as your happy and everyone in your world is happy then, I'm happy watching. It's funny I don't really like small people, but watching you guys with the children and you love for each other gives me happiness.

Thomas, you are so right about people's comments on weight. As someone who has had weight issues all my life, i agree, but nonetheless I love it when people say I've lost weight, so it's complicated. The thing though is that because of how you present yourselves here, you become like family for many of us, we feel a real connection and people really care. I've never commented on PJ, but on Tyler & Todd's vlog, I did comment that Todd is getting skinny. They are doing really physical work living in the Forests of Nova Scotia and eating vegan (which I support as a vegetarian), but they are getting thin. I made a comment out of love and caring, and maybe I shouldn't have...
