If ABK goes through then their IP is Microsoft 1st party. I would never expect Mario on PS or Xbox or to have Kratos on Xbox. But I do expect Marvel and Star Wars to be multi Plat.

@@grtcara8386 He probably switched when Sony switched Their CEO to Jim Ryan around the time the PS5 was announced. Jim Ryan hasn’t been very beneficial to Sony whatsoever so far at least from what we’ve seen recently. I know it’s very early on but this new direction that Sony has taken doesn’t seem very consumer friendly besides the fact that their porting their games to pc. Overall the company doesn’t seem like their a taking a step forward but rather a step backward. I never really had a problem with Sony all that much until Jim Ryan came in and did things like trying to push the standard price of games to 70$ upon many other anti consumer things that Sony had taken part in since he’s been in charge like the whole heavily encouraged micro transactions in Gran Turismo 7 and the whole thing where he was getting rid of Japanese studios within the company and saying things like nobody wants to play older games when that is clearly not the case especially with someone like me that almost always only plays older games.

I’ve been gaming since the golden era of gaming in the 80’s and I got out of gaming when they introduced the Wii and the Kinect, I got back in with the 4K One X, I bought a PS5 day 1 cos all the hype was Sony 1st party games so I played them. Uncharted and TLOU are fantastic absolutely top tier but the others are bang average, decent so,I’d games but not exceptional. In my experience I’ve not seen this type of unwarranted hype ever coming out of a console community like I’ve seen with this lot. The journalists now are all shills back in my day they were unbiased, naming has gone to trash and I blame Layden and Ryan for creating this racket but Spencer looks to be making things right again.

It might not be the same comparison but when Street Fighter 5 became PS console exclusive, that was it for me. At the time, fighting games were my choice of games and pretty much if you were into fighters, PlayStation was pretty much the home. Thank god SF6 is multi platform now

Agreed. If fighting games are your genre, you essentially choosing between Street Fighter 5 or Killer Instinct to make your console choice, and as much as I love Killer Instinct, Street Fighter is going to win out more often than not. Also, even for multi-console owners like myself, it has a knock on effect when deciding on perhipherals and games. If I buy a PS4 for Street Fighter 5, chances are I will also buy a PS4 fight stick, which in turn means other titles like Mortal Kombat, Tekken and Soulcalibur will be PS4 games by default. It was the same when deciding to buy a racing wheel. I was essentially choosing between Gran Turismo vs. a duo of Forza Motorsport and Horizon (both of which had multiple entries on Xbox One). Motorsport and Horizon won out there and that's why Xbox became my platform of choice for racers.

Playstation has always been the home of fighting games, the console launched with Tekken which was a flagship title for the Playstation all the way up to when Tekken 6 released when the series became cross platform for the very first time releasing on other platforms other than arcade and Playstation. Today Sony owns EVO the worst largest E-sport fighting tournament. Since you knew even back then that Playstation was pretty much the home of fighting games and that fighting games were your choice of games, why didn't you get a Playstation instead of Xbox?

If you ask me as a person that play's on Playstation I'm glad this is happening because Sony is on their high horse and charging more for games that have little to no worth for $70 dollars. If they would've focused on a descent multiplayer game and not focusing on Remasters for $100 then they wouldn't be sweating like this. 👀 I keep saying it but if they really focus on a Killzone multiplayer that was on the level of Killzone 2 with the tech we have now and make it a big budget multiplayer I guarantee that would compete with COD, but Lyin Ryan over there want's to keep milking Remaster's and look at what's happening. 👀👀

There is one thing I feel people are not touching in the Playstation discussion and that is fatigue. Their 1st party games (and the remakes of them) are pretty formula based. The often celebrated story driven 3rd person games may start to loose its novelty. This in combination with remakes of them and the price raise on the games may change the perceived value of the games. Even though the quality is still top notch, the wow factor is not as big as before. This lowers the must play perception to the broader audience and it feels like they had put all their Marketing on 'because it's Playstation'. Maybe the known quantity of sony games will turn from a blessing to a curse, especially if new and fresh games. IP's and game concepts which will define this new generation will hit the shelves.

Fatigue and over hype. COD was and is outselling every 3rd person Assassin's Creed like Sony exclusive combined and Nintendo is selling plenty of hard and software without games similar to those Sony exclusives. I know journalists love these heavy narrative driven, low replay value, 3rd person games but the majority of the market is clearly playing something else. Sony is going to have to diversify it's IP because media accolades alone are no longer moving the needle for them

Sony said that Game Pass had captured “approximately 60-70 percent” of the global market for subscription services over the past five years. The market share in Brazil is reportedly even higher with 70-80 percent of PC subscription services comprised of Game Pass. WRT to the last topic - those games were available on both gens. Why would sales be down at all? Also, were they not cheaper on last gen? I guess if you converted enough of those fans over to next gen and they are waiting on price drops - that might explain it. PS - acting like Horizon is niche given the sales of the first one is beyond bizarre - and GT has generally been the top selling racing game on any platform. Sales are down because GT has controversy around its MTX and its $70 price doesn't help. Not sure why 10m+ seller Horizon is selling lower, beyond what I guessed above.

It's hard to measure the loss for Sony if sometime in the future MS make CoD exclusive. Imagine how many ps plus subscriptions they would lose, and alongside that, all the micro transactions. This shows how bad was for Sony to rely on Cod during all ps4 life cycle instead of bringing more variety games to it's platform.

I dont see Sony gaining back the ground the lost to xbox. Xbox is doing this without any games. They really haven't put out any games this generation yet. Just wait until all these games start coming out. Players will be on gamepass because it will be available everywhere. Sony is right to be worried. A mass majority of console gamers don't care about SIE Prestige Games that increases Sony's brand but don't sell well. When I say don't sell well, if your base is 100 mil+ and only 20%< buy a game then that isn't mass success. Call of Duty is mass success. Sony can't match that and CoD widens Sony's base in the hopes that 1/5 console owners will also buy their 1st party. Considering a minority of gamers have both and Xbox and PlayStation the math plays out itself.

Eventually Sony will have to release a game pass app on the PlayStation 5. Glad TV's are coming out with the app built in ...Happy my phone has the app , I can play game pass on many devices ...can't say the same for Sony

I think Destins point on $70 games is ABSOLUTLEY the reason 1st party is down 31% I don't buy Hoegs reasoning that the games aren't big enough and that's the reason. Horizon, Ratchet & Clank, Returnal and GT7 all have very low sales and are all highly rated and big franchises (bar Returnal). It’s not that PlayStation is fearful of the Microsoft/activation deal is that they know what it could mean for them. Microsoft has set a business plan in motion and Sony as a competitor has to react to that business plan. Microsoft acquiring Activision has the potential to remove titles from the PlayStation ecosystem in the future or provide opportunities for Microsoft that didn’t exist before. Microsoft crazily publish a game and say it’s now an exclusive Xbox only. Microsoft would likely be bringing every Activision title to GamePass and they’re going to be pushing gamepass heavily on the world. When they say give us $15 a month and we will give you all of this it’s going to be a huge catalog of games and that can draw customers. People will ask can I get GamePass here they may ask can I get GamePass on my PlayStation rest assured they will ask do you have a feature like this Sony they will compare PlayStation plus to Game Pass and Sony will have to measure up I don’t mean they have to be equal to GamePass I mean they’re going to measure their service versus the Xbox service.

Even short term they are doing great things. Short term they can become a haven for indie games. That will keep them dev friendly. Not every AAA studio will put their games on GP day but with their 30+ studios, the indie market will thrive there, AA games will thrive there. It could make GP become something that feels almost nessary. GP Ultimate you get the pc and Xbox GP and EAplus. You get 2k eventually in GP and Madden and other EA games. You can sell someone on the Xbox series s for 299 and tell them for 180 a year they can get cod, 2k, Madden, some combination of halo, gears, forza, fable, doom, wolfenstein, and tons of indies. That is a very easy sale. 2 years down the line you can convince that series s owner to upgrade to the series x when the price might be cheaper and the console easier to find.

All future Activision/Blizzard games will be on Game Pass day one with exclusive content definitely. While on Playstation, it'll be $70 which would steer the decision in favor of their console. So even if COD or Overwatch get released on Playstation they'll eventually lose. The merge should be regulated or blocked in my opinion.
