The only people that are "foul, uncouth and uncultured " are the the ones putting down another language. Could there be anything more disgusting and shameful than to categorize another language in such a way? I grew up in Canada and now live in the US. We are fluent in Punjabi living out here. The Punjabi diaspora around the world is proud of their Punjabi language and culture. Punjabi is a much older language than Urdu and possibly Hindi as well. The fact that it is the only tonal Indo-Aryan language should indicate its ancient roots! I'm absolutely shocked at the disrespect! These people should not be allowed to listen to any Punjabi music if they think it is so foul! And yes Nouman "DurPhitte Muh" LOL Love your videos! Keep them coming!

It is very well known that we Punjabis love to show off. This habit of ours is one of the biggest reasons behind this. We consider it to be more modern, more upper class to speak in English/ Hindi/ Urdu (valid for Punjabi Muslims) than to speak in Punjabi. A person is considered more cultured if he can speak in English/Hindi/Urdu than in Punjabi and unfortunately parents encourage this among their children. The second and the most important reason behind this is our history. This problem all began thanks to the Partition and then aggravated during the Punjabi Suba movement of the 1960s. Before the British came to Punjab all Punjabis - Hindu-Sikhs & Muslims spoke Punjabi. (I mention Hindu-Sikhs because before the British came we were never identified separately and were one and the same). The British who had ruled over Awadh and Bengal for quite some time before they annexed Punjab introduced Urdu from Awadh along with English as the medium of instruction in Punjab as they were more familiar with the language and considered it to be more pleasant to the ear than Punjabi. As a result/ most of the middle class and upper class Punjabis be it Muslims, Hindus or Sikhs who received a formal education received the same in Urdu or English. Thus the medium of formal education and administration became Urdu/English in Punjab and slowly the Shahmukhi script (i.e the Persianised script) also began to be used to write Punjabi. As education began to spread the women were educated as well but their modes of education were different i.e. either home schooling or in separate Girl's School. Interestingly women were not expected to go out and work but were rather expected to be homemakers. Hence they were not all taught in Urdu. Rather Hindu women were taught Hindi, Sikh women were taught Gurumukhi and the Muslim women were taught the Urdu-shahmukhi script. This was done as women were expected to know how to read their religious texts which at that time were published in these languages. Some Sikh women also learned Hindi and some Hindus also learned Gurumukhi at the time. Let me give you an example. Both my paternal and maternal grandfather (Dadaji and Nanaji) learnt Urdu & English in school and could only read and write in Urdu & English while both my parental and maternal grandmother (Dadi and Nani) learnt Hindi and could read and write in Hindi. This was very common across families where the men learnt one language and the women the other. Although at home the entire family always spoke in Punjabi only. Therefore Urdu & English became a tool to prosperity under the British administration and men were expected to know these languages. It became a means to get a job, get administrative work done and hence people started learning Urdu/ English. Later on, after partition Urdu was replaced by Hindi in India and hence the fascination for Hindi, Urdu and English began and continues to plague us even today. Another contributing factor to this were the political parties and social organisations at the time. Throughout the early 1900s up to the partition these organisations encouraged the use of particular languages. The RSS & Arya Samaj wanted Hindus to learn Hindi, the Akalis wanted to encourage Gurumukhi - Punjabi and the Muslim League encouraged the use of Urdu. Thus religious groups used language as a tool to divide people. Hence Punjabis began learning different languages based on their religious identity even though they still spoke Punjabi at home and with each other. After partition Muslims vacated Indian Punjab and the Hindus and Sikhs left Pakistani Punjab to come to India leading to a complete change in demographics. Urdu was replaced in Indian Punjab with the use of Hindi & Punjabi written in Gurumukhi script while in Pakistan they continued to use Urdu and completely stopped the use of the Devanagari and Gurumukhi script. The second major event was the Punjabi Suba movement. Since partition was based on religious lines, the Sikhs also started demanding more representation for their religious identity which they now considered to be separate from Hindus even though just a few decades back the two were indistinguishable. Punjab had been declared as a bilingual state even though both Hindus and Sikhs spoke Punjabi. The Akalis saw this as a political opportunity and raised the demand for a Punjabi Suba i.e. a state where Punjabi written in Gurumukhi would be the sole official language. The Hindu Punjabis, even though they spoke Punjabi did not wish to divide the state. They sensed the political opportunity of the Akalis behind the move - that was to create a Sikh majority state by carving the Hindu majority areas out of Punjab. The Hindu leaders of the time thought that if all Hindus of Punjab declare Hindi as their mother tongue, Punjab would not be divided as Hindus were present in large number throughout the length and breadth of the state. They thought that even if Punjab is divided, large parts of Hindu areas would be outside the state if their language was Hindi and not Punjabi. Hence Hindus were encouraged to declare Hindi as their mother tongue. It was common to find newspapers encouraging Hindus to declare Hindi as their mother tongue rather than Punjabi in the census in order to stop the bifurcation of Punjab or to ensure that Hindu areas remained out of a Sikh dominated state. However this did not happen and in 1966 Punjab was divided into the present states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Delhi (Union Territory). Moreover the division failed to achieve its objectives of creating a Punjabi Suba as a large number of Punjabi speaking areas such as Ambala, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Chandigarh, Shimla, Chamba, etc. were not within the state of Punjab but went to the newly created states of Haryana and Himachal. Interestingly these areas were also largely dominated by Hindus and not Sikhs. The Hindus however failed to achieve their objective as well. Largely Hindu areas like Pathankot, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, etc. continued to be part of Punjab. Therefore the division of Punjab was a loss for everyone. It helped no one and only alienated a huge section of Hindus away from their language who started adopting Hindi as their primary language. Lastly with Hindi being declared as India’s foremost official languages, it brought with it economic opportunities and prosperity. Therefore people started teaching their children Hindi and English and Punjabi only remained as a means of communication at home. By the time today’s generation has come the use of Punjabi has fallen drastically. Most parents who themselves have been educated in English and Hindi don’t speak to their children in Punjabi. Some do learn Punjabi but that is mostly because of their grandparents. In fact within one or two generations, our community would have lost its identity. For example in my family while all my aunts and uncles speak Punjabi only a handful of their children (my cousins) do. I really thank my father in this respect who ensured that both my brother and I know our mother tongue - Punjabi. He ensured that while at home we speak only in Punjabi so that we can learn our language and give it the respect it deserves. If only there had been more such people! When it comes to speaking the language I really respect the Sikhs a lot who have continued to teach their children Punjabi in spite of all odds. It is the Punjabi Hindus and Punjabi Muslims who should learn from them and not teach their children Hindi/Urdu but Punjabi which is our mother tongue after all. I know my answer is a bit long but this question touched a raw nerve and I could not help myself. Hopefully I have been able to answer your question.

0:49 Warraich bhaijaan, eh dono lafaz Urdu de nahi, Farsi de ne. Tuhadi ik puraani video vich v main ehi point out kitta c ik vaari. Urdu apne aap vich koi independent zubaan nahi ae jithe k Punjabi apne aap ch ik independent zubaan ae. Farsi de lafz Punjabi vich ohna sadiya to ne jado Urdu ikk official language v nahi c. فائدہ and گوشت are Persian words, then they are words of Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi, Urdu, Hindi, Kashmiri etc. When you say these words are of Urdu, this is disrespectful to the source language that loaned these words. This is like saying ‘jungle', ‘mantra' and 'yoga' words in English are of Old English origin when we all know they are of Sanskrit origin. I have also heard from you that Shahmukhi Punjabi script is thought to have descended from Urdu which could not be any more wrong! Shahmukhi is so much older than Urdu.

I agree to what you said and you might have heard in the later part of video i said urdu is ‘gatawa’ of different languages. Even many of Punjabi words came from Parkrit and Persian even Arabic.

Anybody who calls Punjabi foul or badtameez is badtameez himself of the first water. Punjab is the most beautiful and sweet language in the .world. Proof is in the pudding. Look at its popularity in the world in music, folklore and humor. Those who speak ill of Punjabi are religious fanatics or have some mental problem. Punjabi belongs to all Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian equally. Long live our common mother tongue - Punjabi!

Punjabi is the most widely spoken and undestood language of Pakistan and ofcourse its got different accents. Punjabi is the language of Sufis and Walis. My language is Hindko which is so sweet and ancient language. I generaly love all the languages of Pakistan, especially Punjabi. Keep it up you are doing excellent job.

Love Hindko people. I went to Battagram and Mansehra and enjoyed speaking my native dialect (Majha Punjabi) with them. Thankful that Hindko Majha Punjabi and Seraiki are all related and we can all talk and joke with each other in our respective languages.

So there are many words in punjabi which are actually taken from other lnguges for example urdu, and pronounced in punjabi accent, am I right? Like you gave an examle of gosht, is there any actual punjabi word for gosht and words like that in punjabi or simply the punjabi is only about accent which borrows words from other languages? Please enlighten

Pure word for gosht is 'maas' No one knows pure words since we are not given education in Punjabi in Punjab. *Personal Experience* : I was in 5th grade in a village part of District Attock (North of Punjab), and the principal legit told us not to speak Punjabi inside school's premises, not even with eachother in break time. Remember, it was a school in *Punjab* with mostly *Punjabi* speaking students. Even most of the Afghan students were either fully fluent or had great understanding of Punjabi language.

@@hasanat3816 I have heard the accent you guys speak in Attock and thats more like hindko and pothohari which is spoken in abbotabad, maansehra, haripur etc. You guys really speak beautifully but yeah problem with our people is deeply engraved in their minds that if they see anyone speaking punjabi, they assume him as he must have not gone to school and he is uneducated if does not choose to speak in urdu. It is what it is. But I really wish that we would have been provided with the local language education as well.

@@hamzanaveed6933 ❤️ FYI: Some people in Attock like to call their language Hindko while other call it 'cha-chi.' The hindko I speak in Balakot is entirely different from the 'Hindko/chachi' of Attock, Kamra, Hazro. Infact, I found their dialect a little more closer to Seraiki (the accent is different tho). While another thing I noticed that the Hindko spoken in Balakot, Naran-Kaghan is entirely similar to the Hindko spoken in Neelum and Muzzafarabad (AJK). Like their accent and proverbs etc are just like who people of my own hometown would speak.

@@hamzanaveed6933 *ANOTHER EXPERIENCE* There is alot of disunity b/w Punjabis of different dialects. I was travelling once from Rawalpindi to Taxila and beside me was a Faisalabadi guy who was speaking Punjabi on the phone. When I tried to converse with him in my own Hindko dialect (speaking slowly and using easy words and making it a little easier for him to understand too), he prefered to talk with me in Urdu instead. (He was a nice guy tho, may Allah bless him). And a native Rawalpindi guy with whom I also spoke Hindko and he replied in Potowahari beside me asked the Faisalabadi guy: "Aap *Punjab* se hain? (as if Rawalpindi was not in Punjab and they were not punjabi). Ans the Faisalabadi guy legit told him yes I'm from punjab. It is a if the only punjab and punjabi people and language is considered what is spoken in and around Lahore, Faisalabad and Indian Punjab lol.
