You can pull out the plug in the bottom and install an auto drain, then you don't have to do anything for them over the winter. Also they use the normal Maxi Paw nozzles so you can swap them out to get more distance or more gpm. I think they come with a 3 gpm nozzle, I swapped mine to the red which is like a 1.5 gpm. I had several of these and when I redid my lawn I buried some pvc and connected them together so I just had a couple connection near the house to run all of them. Then this year I connected the lines to valves with a controller and set it up just like a normal in ground sprinkler system.

Over the last year I've been installing these in my 1.65 acre yard. I pump water from the Mississippi River. I'm about to install #40 (!) and think I will need 4-6 more for full coverage. Here are some tips and tricks I've learned: 1) Cut a piece of good quality hardscape fabric (approx 12" x 18"). Cut a small hole in the center by folding in quarters and cutting the correct corner. Then assemble the unit by first placing the lid, then passing the retention loop through the hose connect bracket, and finally clicking the bracket into position by inserting one end into the T slot at the base of the connection chamber (the cylinder) and then gently squeezing the cylinder to pop the other end into place. Then-BEFORE attaching the sprinkler-slide the hardscape fabric over the short connecter hose until the fabric is flush with the bottom of the cylinder. Some careful folding and taping (pass scotch tape a full 360° around the cylinder to hold the fabric in place snugly) will wrap the non-sprinkler part of the unit and create a clean "floor" once you have positioned the unit in the ground. The fabric should be almost to the green lid. 2) Use an adjustable hex wrench to fully tighten the male connecter threads into the female threads on the sprinkler head. 3) When digging the hole, I start with a shovel, but use a hand-held digger with a sharp point to scrape and shape the hole. I have gotten very good at creating a hole that is almost a perfect fit. I also have a small bucket in which I drop any rocks I dig up, and other buckets for the dirt, so I create minimal mess on the lawn. 4) Position the tops on the unit about a half inch *above* the level of the dirt. You will still be able to easily and safely mow over it, and also prevent dirt and grass/weed overgrowth from gradually messing with your opening. When backfilling, gently compress the dirt around the bottom half of the sprinkler head to promote stability. I create holes so tight that re-placing the sod is irrelevant. 5) When determining where to place your sprinklers, don't be afraid to overlap the sprinkling patterns. This creates more even coverage. Of course, this will also mean purchasing more units. Place them as close to edges as possible, or centrally located, but not 4 feet in, or you will have unwatered areas. 6) Avoid using a 360° pattern. A 360 pattern is either all clockwise or all counterclockwise, but an oscillating pattern uses both, and since the two patterns differ, your coverage is more uniform with an oscillating pattern. 7) Position the connection chamber to be outside the pattern you want to water. This allows you to use the quick connect without getting wet, and prevents the hose from blocking the water spray (yes, that actually happens, and it is noticeable in brown spots forming). 8) If installing on a slope, place the unit parallel to the slope. Otherwise one part will rise up too high and this may be difficult to compensate. 9) Avoid watering the trunks of trees! This can create all sorts of problems with rot and disease. 10) Winterizing is unnecessary, other than disconnecting your garden hose. I suspect I may have the largest residential installation of these units. If you run across anyone with more than 40, let me know!

Wow what an extensive piece of information anyone for looking to install these. Thanks for adding so much to the conversation. I wish I had thought to put down fabric underneath just so the dirt doesn't end up on covering the connection. It seems like ants like to pile it up there. Your lawn must be incredible with 40 of these!

Thanks, that’s crazy that they don’t sell the quick connects. Easy part to lose. I wonder if the Eden ones on Amazon would fit.

Per rainbird they dont need to be winterized just have them off as they have drain holes and allow for evaporation.

I'm debating between this and the rain bird 32HE. The 32HE is similar with hose quick connect, but instead it connects to 4 sprinkler heads buried underground.
@JaysPlace2468
@JaysPlace2468 Жыл бұрын
I hear you. Can your water pressure support all 4 heads at the same time? If so, I’d lean that way. I’m testing these out as my first run with “in-ground” sprinklers. I didn’t have time to trench them together so I can just move the hose. If I like the benefits, I may upgrade to something even less manual in years to come. Either way, the click-n-go setup is a nice alternative to a full blown irrigation system for a fraction of the cost.

How many of these can you run at once from the same hose bib?
@JaysPlace2468
@JaysPlace2468 Жыл бұрын
That would depend on your water pressure and how many square feet you are trying to cover. I haven’t tested it but I think with my water pressure I could run 2 comfortably, 3 max. Again, that’s just an estimate and it’s based on my specific situation. Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation.
