We weren't wealthy or anyone special but just wanted to treat ourselves, so we went to this restaurant not long after it opened and Gordon got his 3rd Michelin Star, and it was sensational. It was torrential rain, we got soaked and the staff were fantastic, getting us towels, and a hair dryer etc. The food was nothing short of an outstanding 'culinary experience' and Gordon was not only in the kitchen, he came out, spoke with us and posed for a photo with us...a wonderful memory...What a legend he was back then!

Most chefs would kill for a SINGLE Michelin star on their restaurant, even just one of them marks absolutely delicious food at a great restaurant, the fact that Gordon Ramsay has managed to achieve 17 of them shows how much of a skilled perfectionist he is as a cook.
@andrewchiu62265 ай бұрын
I am super pleased and grateful that you shelled out the big $$$ to do a full tasting menu and get a complete experience from Ramsay's flagship (as it is the only way to realistically assess a 2 or 3 Michelin star restaurant.) And you did a wonderful job conveying how each item tasted without the cliches that fine dining foodie influencers can fall back on. Although this isn't the main focus of the channel, once I wanted to note this was greatly appreciated. Hope you get a lot of views for this!

I’ve eaten at his flagship restaurant since his first opening when he was the chef and perhaps 20+ more times since. It is one of the very best restaurants in the world! Stand in Budapest is right up there too. Next time have take 4 and have their Sommelier, James Shaw, pair wine with each course. It elevates the meal to a stratospheric level. Finally, I’m sorry you missed the best restaurant manager in the entire world, Jean-Claude Breton, who brings the meal to another level when he accompanies and explains each course! The thing about these sorts of "high end" restaurants - you go for the experience more than the food itself really. While normally, the food is incredibly good in places like this, it's all about the experience of being there, being told everything in the dish, how it's made sometimes, specific cutlery or dishes for each course, etc. And while depending on the menu, you can get 8, 10, 12, even more courses and get full pretty easily even with the small portions most of the time. For the "average joe" spending $350 on a tasting menu such as this, with very small portions and a very narrow choice of food each course has, it's usually seen as just for "rich people" or people who want to show off (flex I guess the kids say these days lol). All that being said, I've had the pleasure of eating at restaurants such as this before and I hate the saying "don't knock it till you try it" but in this regard - I totally agree. I've had culinary training (at the Culinary Institute of America) and know what goes into a fine dining experience and it is NOT easy work and it's certainly not for the faint of heart. These chefs and cooks and servers and everyone work their asses off to make the "experience" something memorable. And that's why I always recommend people, if they can, do something like this at least once in their life.

I liked RGR a lot too. The standout dish when I went was a spelt "risotto" with a parmesan foam, artichoke, maitake and wild garllic flowers. Just incredibly umami, the flavour really lingered and I was almost upset that the palate cleanser granita that followed erased most of the taste! The ajo blanco dish (which uses macadamias instead of almonds because Matt Abé is Australian) was also particularly memorable. The mushrooms were morels - the best mushroom as far as I am concerned.

Great vlog/review. Quick note though, artichoke is not a root, it's actually a flower

These places should welcome KZbinrs; it’s honestly free publicity for them!
@uaeats6 ай бұрын
I agree but I kinda get it from their perspective. If you already are a very prestigious restaurant you don't have much to gain and everything to lose if a KZbinr posts a bad review. Otherwise places like this tend to only allow KZbinrs who are vetted in advance and they schedule your visit. That's why I just show up unannounced so I can pass as a tourist and always give honest reviews

I think the whole dinner would just constitute an appetizer for me. I would actually need a main entree. Or leave there starving. No wonder rich people are so thin. Lol.

Half Brit/American here. In England I call it sirloin, State side I call it porterhouse ( but yes it is also known by some as a New York or Kansas strip).

You'd be surprised how much meals like this will fill you up. I know the typical American viewpoint is "small portions mean not enough food" but when it comes to restaurants like this, they're doing all of that for a reason. I've had a number of similar meals at higher end restaurants and have never left hungry
