My wife and I went into this restaurant a few years ago as we happened to walk past whilst on a trip to London. We had never heard of the place nor the guy at that time. Sat down and was shocked at the prices, so had a burger each. It was basically full of what looked like a mixture of Arabian royals, Albanian gangsters, and “influencers”. One table totally summed up both the place and the modern world. A young couple, or even possibly brother and sister, were sat at a table (no more than 18). They looked impossibly rich, and didn’t speak a single word to each other. They both just stared blankly onto their phones. They both looked totally miserable. Suddenly, a procession of waiters appeared at their table with food, sparklers going off, and music playing, they immediately starting filming each other, pulling geeky faces, talking to the camera, and acting like they were the happiest people on the planet. It was all a show for the camera. I have never seen a transformation like it. The girl, took off the hoody she had been wearing (complete with hood up and sunglasses on) to reveal a plunging neckline top and make up she had spent hours on. The charade lasted no more than a couple of minutes. As soon as the waiters left, and this show was over, she put her hoody back on, and both went back to their phones. They didn’t say another word to each other the entire time. It was genuinely like being at a circus.

I can remember the rip off that was nouveau quisene, going into a rip off restaurant , paying God knows what for a plate with sod all on it , a spoonful of mash , a few peas , a tiny lamb chop with a small spoonful of watery gravy . We were told by the waitress it was to be looked at and admired rather than eaten . We skipped the dessert and went to the local fish and chip shop . Food at last ! Wish we'd gone there first .

Prices.., well ultimitly the proof is in the pudding (no pun intended), and what the market allow them to charge. But there is a before- and an after, the post pandemic inflation. Everything is way more expensive today. Some places reduce quality.., and raise the prices. Nobody wants that. Cheers👍

It is great to see a food reviewer being totally honest about this "scam". Serving mediocre food for INSANE prices. I have worked in the industry for many years and just recently retired as a restaurant general/manager. I worked as a waiter, bartender, bouncer, head waiter and restaurant general/manager over decades. The kitchen in the restaurant I was a general/manager, would get pure hell from me if they made food like the starter and the desert. Yes, the main was small and looked boring, but at least it was tasty. We had PRIDE in what we did and would NEVER serve our guests any of those three courses. Our service, our food and our drinks/beverages had to be at a very high standard. If something happened and our guest didn't get the standard we wanted to give them, they would get totally new food, pay nothing and an invitation back for a free 3 course set menu that had to be done within a year. Our courses did all taste very good to amazing with good portions and the prices were MUCH MUCH lower than what Salt Bae is charging. It really pisses me off how some social media charlatan can get away with this "scamming" of people that care more about bragging about going to one of his restaurant than the quality of what they are getting served. Gordon Ramsay is also one that rubs me the wrong way. Yes, he is a great chef, but most of his restaurants are serving mediocre to decent food for way to high prices and he doesn't seem to have much pride in making it better to much better. I guess all that counts to him is how much the numbers in his bank accounts grow. But he is still far from as bad as Salt Bae is.
@GaryEatsАй бұрын
Thank you very much for your wonderful comment, unfortunately this restaurant is for people with more money than brains, like you I am annoyed when celebrity chefs put their name to restaurants and the quality is poor, Paul Ainsworth in my opinion is an exceptional chef who is kept his restaurant chain to only three places all located in the same area he can ensure quality and not rip the general public off, hope you have an excellent week

Hi Gary, I have never been and don't plan on going there either, as I have a problem with the pricing, hype and Salt Bae himself. But a colleague from the hospital went there with his wife on their anniversary and he almost had a heart attack, the bill for the two of them was almost 1900£. Just absurd if you ask me, but glad you reviewed it, as when you read off the main menu, the prices were just from another planet. 😅 I would eat a Hawksmoor any day before going th any of Sal Bae's restaurant. But I have to admit that what you ordered from the set menu looked good but quite small portions. Another fantastic review, mate and what a great review it was. I'd be no good as a lottery winner going to these places. If my win was in the millions there is no way I'd pay much above what you paid for any of the steaks on the menu. One thing about coming from a humble background is that you know the value of these things instinctively, you also know when you are being taken for a ride. If you'd spent £39 buying a Greggs for yourself and a few homeless you'd have been more satisfied. So would the homeless and probably so would we. Another good review Gary.
