2:24 I can answer that! Besides being a game for people without powerful machines, it was a game made for kids who were already Mega Man and Mega Man X fans. Let's consider that "younger players" were 10 like me, unlike NES-era fans who were older teenagers and super young adults. I still vividly remember how in 2001, after beating MMX5, I read in my school library a super nintendo magazine talking about this obscure Mega Man game I didn't know about (back then I was frustrated about not being able to play the brand new mega man zero, so this was great news!). First thing I did was searching for the rom at home, and it blew my mind. It felt like playing a flashy 32-bit game on my SNES emulator, it was insane. It took me a year to beat it, and to date, it's one of the few classic Mega Man games I've beaten without cheating (3, 4, 8 and R&F). So, it's not impossible to beat this game being a 10 years old kid, even if it was a brutal task. I wasn't able to play the Zero series until 2009, so for almost a decade, it was the last good mega man game I've ever played. I like that it took me that long.

@@moonrazk Yeah but that damage isn't really that important until you are in the last stages. The final boss is proof of that. Finally! Now I know for a fact I wasn't crazy when I thought this one was so tougher than usual. Controlling Bass is really fun but the level design is ruthless. This is a very good review! I feel like it's tough to say which game is better: this game, or Mega Man 8. There are some very good things about this game, but it is indeed very, very difficult. It felt as if the levels were designed with Bass/Forte in mind, and with Mega Man as an afterthought. The graphics are very good for a Super NES game, especially considering that the sprites were taken from a 32-bit game. I am very, very disappointed that this game was never included in any of the Mega Man collections that were released by Capcom. I believe that the game is canon, because the ending of this game is referenced in Mega Man 9.
@koopakape3 жыл бұрын
I always felt this was definitely INTENDED for older, more skilled gamers who were still clinging to their precious SNES's into the late 90s, alongside other brutally difficult late-stage SNES games like Megaman X3 and Fire Emblem Thracia 776. I think Inafune was either on something or trying to say that to get moms to buy it for their kids anyway, I dunno. But I've always personally found that stuff really cool and exciting to explore "any way I could" as an American obsessed with the SNES and finding so many badass, hard as hell late-end SNES games we never got here and talking about them online. I actually LOVED MM&B forever since I played it in such a way when it was fairly newish way back when and it was like a legendary thing online. Yeah, it's total bullshit in a lot of ways but, like you said, if you accept it as a tough as nails Mega Man product as someone with a lot of experience in the series it's still plenty enjoyable. But even then, yeah, screw that 2nd King stage with 4 of the HARDEST and most INSANE Mega Man bosses EVER all in a row in 1 stage lmao. That part went too far.

It's so doable it's just not as easy as like megaman 3 to 8 and people get so angry when they die to something that you would need to spend a few lives to learn stuff in this game. This is one of the best of the series. if you want bad stage design in the megaman universe, look no further... X3! Did NOT need those boss room doors to divide each maverick stage up into 3 parts each. It's so funny to watch new players play this game for the first time but have prior megaman experience and all they do is megabuster everything and scream and cry when they hit a wall. I feel like again... 4th megaman onwards you were not really reliant anymore on changing weapons to progress, then this game comes around. And I love that some of the robot masters are no pushovers for first timers even IF you have the weakness weapon to the boss. If you ask me MM&B's a game that gets better each playthrough, up to the point I'd call it a near perfect game despite some of it's design choices. It's also become my favorite entry and 3rd favorite SNES game. I'd rank the classic series as this now. Bass > 6 > 4 > 11 > 5 > 8 > 7 > 9 > 3 > 2 >> 1 >>> 10

3:14 they don't "just appear" =( You can see they are behind the 'wall' in the background before jumping to the foreground to attack you. I think it's kinda neat.

While it's not THE best Mega Man game, it's still one of my favorites. Sad we never got a "proper" SNES english release. The GBA version was very disappointing due to the hardware limitations.

Beat this on emulator and gba in the 90s, I don't remember it being super hard, like how the wily levels in MM2 that give me nightmares but you have to love it just for the fact you get to be Forte/Bass.

For me personally Mega Man and Bass (SFC Ver.) Is my 3rd favorite classic Mega Man game. The overall look of the game is fantastic as it uses the same sprites from Mega Man 8, the levels desing is alrighty, the soundtrack is phenomenal, and its fun, difficult but fun.

X3 was pretty fun though. It can be hard, especially when looking for power ups, but I liked it more than this one.

At least X3 has more sets of Ride Armors than any other MMX game (it's probably just one Ride Armor with different add-ons none the less).

This is one of my favorites, together with 8 and 4, but I probably had played more of This game than any other classic megaman. The thing here as a Megaman fan is that for a long time I could find it hard or pleasure anymore in any Megaman, I played all of it, multiple times at my NES, and Snes came out Megaman 7, the game sprites was fresh, I was excited, but the game was kind of slow, easy, wily had a hard fight and that's it, I would prefer the NES series, was a let down for me. At that time Megaman was just an expected formula of platforming, find the right bosses and that's it, the platforming was not challenging me anymore at the time. Megaman 8 released, was fresh, with new sprites, animations, awesome music, but again it was too easy to come back at any time later, I hardly played again, despite I loved the skateboarding (I know people hate it, but I have a lot of fun on faster thinking stages), and the sprites are so beautiful, the snow stage is so beautiful, the music is so atmospheric, there is a lot of quality here that's why I can't ignore him, would love if capcom did 9 and 10 with this kind of quality. Then came Rockman & Forte, I played on an emulator for Dreamcast, and was like having fun again, still these days despite I know everything inside of my head, this game still challenges me, I die less now or maybe didn't die at all, but keeps my heart beating fast, especially at final stages, giving always the joy of discovering again that Megaman I remembered at the 90's, yes I played then at early '90s, the NES was still a thing and the game was easier to find. Time passes I have to choose a Megaman to play on, I always choose either 4 or Forte, don't ask why I like 4 so much I just find charismatic, the toad man, pharaoh man, that giant snail mid-boss amuse me too much.
@JazGalaxy3 жыл бұрын
This is fascinating. When they made those new 8-bit Megaman games, people kept saying the difficulty was “retro” and it always drove me nuts because Megaman was NEVER that hard. And it was because, just as you say, the games are chock full of instant deaths that the original games never had. The instant deaths plus the store concept makes me see that this game was apparently an inspiration.

My favorite in the series after Megaman 11. Also I prefer to play as Megaman. I like the chalenge here. And the characters are well balanced. I used to compete with my neighbor who would finish the game firt, we discover that Forte is faster to play in the leves, but slow to beat the bosses. Megaman is slow during the levels, but powerful to beat the bosses faster. And I always won. You need practice to play correctly.
