@24:25 The river card wasn't a rag. It completed a flush. Mike even makes a comment about not thinking Teddy has the flush when he goes all in. Given this information, it's very unlikely that he's holding quad 9's.

Ok real quick, this is 1 of my FAVORITE movies of ALL TIME! I have seen it at LEAST 40 TIMES! My take on why Grama cares about getting money from Mike SPECIFICALLY is because the way he FELT like he was treated back in the day when he had NO POWER and was working for Worm who was Mike's best friend! Grama wants PAYBACK now that he has some power PLUS remember, Grama had Worm TOTALLY backed in a corner with no way to pay him back UNTIL Mike vouched for him which stopped or delayed Grama YEARS of waiting for revenged against Worm which obviously pissed Grama off! I feel like Grama really was cool with Mike up to that point and even proved it by asking Mike why would he vouched for a low life like Worm and actually gave Mike EXTRA time to get the money which he did NOT have to do showing that he had some sympathy for Mike's situation.😎

I think the Reason Grama is so mad that Mike won because realistically It was never about the Money for him. He's just a Miserable guy that is now in Power and wanted to inflict pain on somebody. In the beginning of his enterence he was a lackey. An enforcer that collects debts and Roughed people up. Now he's in charge. And he loved the fact that Worm (his former boss) Is now cowering to him. And he more then likely feels Inferior to a guy like Mike Mc D who is smarter then him. He dosent get to torture Worm, who skips town, so Mike he considers a consolation prize. But he dosent get that either by 1 upping Teddy. It was never about the Mpney. He's just Power Hungry

The reason why he didn’t want to hook up with Petra was because he just found out he’s in a bigger debt. And she at the point is the representative of that debt. Apex mountain John Tuturo -Miller’s Crossing. John Malkovich - Of mice and men. Ed Norton -The Score. Matt Damon -The Rainmaker. The KGB accent was weak and then he semi-repeated it on Billions. And Worm pulling cards was the worst scene. No way you go to an exclusive poker table and it takes a while to catch him. Had anyone sat down at their table in AC and tried that everyone would have caught them on the first or second time.

I loved this one since it came out, but it's not the kind of movie that should be a big hit. It assumes its audience understands poker and the beats of modern noir films. It doesn't explain the story to death. Part of why I loved it was that I was working graveyard shifts with questionable characters and going to college, so I could relate to the scenes and characters. But it's not for everybody. This had one of the best scripts ever. Besides the "if you can't spot the sucker," line there's my favorite "You can shear a sheep many times, but you can only skin it once."

Love your podcast, But I have to say mr. Simmons your” take “ on Matt Damon character should have just went ahead and slept with the lady is so way off. Any true grinder could care less about having sex at that point of the movie. High end poker players are mostly very repulsive smelling and looking and very easily party and can get a call girl when they win big. And poker players emotionally would not have given in there. The movie is far more believable because he did NOT sleep with her.

Excellent movie from beginning to end, and probably the BEST gambling movie ever made. However, Damon's girlfriend is unbearably annoying, and probably the WORST movie girlfriend in the history of cinema. Jesus I wanted to fast forward her scenes or jump thru the screen and threaten Damon at gunpoint: Dump her bro!! You can do so, SO much better!!!' I'd rather be dead or forever single rather than listen to her nagging. My God she's not nearly hot enough to nag an point fingers like that.
