Is Royai Canon In Alchemy? (FmA;B analysis)

A few things I forgot to mention: ROY'S NAME LITERALLY MEANS RED/KING! I can't believe that I forgot to actually write this into the script because it was one of the main things that made me read more into the Red King and White Queen. One of the most important aspects of the Red King and White Queen's relationship is that they are married and in love (it was very hard to find a picture of them that did not include nudity or sexual themes). Their relationship highlights how their differences complete and help each other. Another important thing with them is that "activity needs material to take physical form, but passive material needs definition to be anything more than potential", which is parallel to Roy and Riza's relationship because Roy needs Riza to keep him grounded without straying from his path, while Riza needs Roy's position and connections to be able to fulfil their shared goal (idk if that made any sense, but it was the fastest way to describe it). In summary: they both need something and the other person is able to support them with what they need (ex. the end of Brotherhood where Roy is blind and Riza is unable to stand on her own due to blood loss, so Riza helps him "see" while Roy holds her up so she can stand). The King and Queen also have a perfect kid called Rebis, but that's not important right now. I'm working on a small series of videos about royai filled with even more royai evidence that most people might not know about for those of you who can't get enough of this wonderful ship :)

Red and White is also a possible reference too Cess. In Alice behind the Mirror, (ore something like this) she met Red and White Queen. In Adaptions, the Red Queen is often fused whit the Heartqueen. But I dont think this makes too much sense, because they work together.

Considering the chess allegory: Think about it! The most important chesspiece, who has to be protected at all cost is the king. By putting the Queen in the place of the king, Roy is saying in a way, that his Queen (Riza) is more important or as important than/as the actual king‘s life (his life) :) Amazing video btw!

The creator of the show wanted to make them Canon but she wanted the show to be more realistic and back in those days it was against the law for military soliders to get married or have any type of relationship so no they weren't Canon

yes, she said that the only reason they didn't marry was because of the rules. them having an open relationship isn't canon (but implied that it might happen at some point, just not in the FmA;B timeline), but I still believe that it is canon because the creator intended for them to be portrayed and interpreted as having romantic feelings for each other; their relationship being fully canon is still debatable :)

I think what it's canon is their romantic interest, not the actual relationship because of the military regulations and blah, but! Nonetheless, we can dream they get together in another dimension or after Roy becomes Führer, xD

I let out some unholy noises when you pointed out Roy's gate. I never noticed that the doors are different! It just shows how much care Arakawa put into designing the entire thing that is FMA. This pair is just the ultimate ship I've ever encountered. No one, not from any genre or media can surpass them in my book!

Late, but I read your analysis of Riza's tattoo. I didn't notice the upper left quadrant was describing nuclear fusion before now. In light of this, it deepens the thematic parallels between the state alchemists (particularly Roy) and nuclear weapons irl. By showing flame alchemy is more based in physics than chemistry, the author has subtly strengthened her own theming. Respect.

Thank you! :D (warning: long reply ahead! sorry...) I got most of the information about the circles from reading random articles about alchemy I found. Sadly there isn't a lot of information about the more complicated elements and arrays (like the red king and white queen or Al's gate) so I had to dig a bit to find good and reliable articles; the basic stuff about Roy's circle was pretty easy to find so I did the analysis on that myself. I used a few posts made by other fans as well, mainly the one about Riza's tattoo (I put a link for it in the description if you want to read more). There is actually quite a bit of stuff about the gates that I had to exclude from the video because I didn't want it to get to long or loose focus on the original theme, like the smaller details on Ed's gate and the Latin words on Roy's gate (I couldn't really read all the letters on his gate so I had to give up but from what I managed to translate I think there's some kind of old poem on it). Father's gate is also really interesting because his gate is completely blank, but I had to leave that out too because I was kinda in a hurry with finishing the editing part of the video, so if you want to discover more hidden details and Easter eggs there are plenty more topics and arrays that haven't been analyzed yet and I would basically just recommend reading a bunch of analyses by fans and random articles about alchemy, because you might just end up stumbling upon a hidden gem! :)

Even if you see their relationship as platonic still have an incredibly interesting and strong bond, which is one of the reasons I love them so much :) I wish there were more strong platonic relationships between male and female characters in media! Most people that are best friends with a person of the sex they are attracted too could and probably would be a good couple if it werent for third parties For example Harry Potter and Hermonie would totally be together if it werent for the weasleys
