The classic 350 is like a dream for city riding. There is no competition in looks, smoothest engine, great build quality, great sound, great suspension and more than enough power for city riding. What more can you ask? Oh yes very value for money as well. King of modern classics indeed.

The Interceptor 650 is so gorgeous and classic looking, definitely one of my favorites. The aftermarket options are abundant. I’d have a blast making one my own. But they lack the power I need for American freeways, and it pains me. My 64 HP Speed Twin 900 is barely enough. I can’t safely go lower. I wish I lived in the English countryside and never had to worry about freeways where 80+ MPH is the minimum safe speed. Maybe RE will come out with a bike with some more power someday. I’ve heard that 650 can be bored out for much bigger displacement.

Based on most of the responses, RE isn't so much about how great these machines are, rather how inexpensive they are in comparison to the icons HD, Triumph, BMW, Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Kawasaki, etc. All that is true. In essence, motorcycling differs from passion to transportation and it varies in significance from one continent to the next. Here in the US, it's less about transportation and more about lifestyle and attitude, I guess in many ways, it's tribal. Harley Davidson could not exist under any other mantra, it means something to us, it's visceral, unapologetically American. Most of us love motorcycling for similar reasons and that passion and mindset is universal. That unified brotherhood around the globe brings us together and that's healthy. In that vein, more power to you, keep riding, never lose the passion and live every day like your hair is on fire, we only get one shot. Ride on 🤟
@saikrishnathiwakarrk5 ай бұрын
And moreover our travel is less american like long roads where you need a good high cc cream machine kinda engine that literally sails from state to state. We ended up having less area and more bends than roads 😂😂. So RE meant a world to us cause it gives us exactly what we need and not more . I would love a Harley,but i can never really use it to its limits with the hopeless traffic 😢. I won't say cheaper , they good ones for the roads we have and customisation crazy. 🥳 Love and ride safe friends beyond the sea 😊.

What's not to like about the Royal Enfield 650 GT, looks like a custom Cafe build. People continually ask me, where I got such a timeless classic motorcycle, thinking it must be from the 1960's, and how long it took to restore. Then when you tell that person, it's a modern revision of a classic design, they might ask, where they could purchase a Royal Enfield Continental GT 650. When I am not cruising my streets on my beloved GT 650, I cruise in my classic Dodge D150 with a 4 speed manual transmission. Given the criteria that you put forward, it makes sense where you ended up. It is pretty clear that the overriding focus is on value for a price - where the value is how it looks and feels. Yet, if other criteria take precedence - like performance or build quality or depth of feel...then perhaps a different bike may take the win. I rode my Triumph Thruxton RS to the dealer and then rode the Interceptor when I got there. Of course, there is no contest - the Thruxton is about five levels above! But the cost is three times the cost! 🙂

Today I happened to park my Interceptor next to a Moto Guzzi V8, despite the Interceptor initially being the lowest on my list for potential bikes a year ago, today I was really glad that I bought it over a Guzzi because nowadays I find it much more visually appealing. Bought the bike used, it gave me hell in the beginning. A light wipeout (my fault ofc), the stock tires gave me 0 confidence, water in the fuel tank thanks to their awful fuel cap seals, now that all these issues have been fixed it runs great and I STILL saved money over a used Guzzi with more miles on it.

As a 57 year old man that has been riding for almost 4 decades, I'm loving the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 with AEW mufflers. Absolute bliss when rolling on the throttle exiting corners...what a ride. And yes, it's a bit "slow", but fast enough. Sounds better than my Harley sport glide with stage 2. Also, beware of the Indian Scout because I rode one for 5 years and it is a back killer. Foot pegs are too far forward and suspension angle is wrong and lacks travel.

I first started reading reviews of motorbikes in the late 1970s. Maybe I'm being unfair but it seemed to me that reviewers at that time were interested only in flat out performance and how much the bike resembled the racers of the time. I was so disillusioned that I stopped reading them by the early 1980s. This is partly why I enjoy your reviews so much. You look at the whole package, including practical things, economy and intangibles such as value for money, character and how the bike makes you feel. In fact, sensible, balanced reviews. Please keep up the good work and a comparison of the Triumph 400 with other bikes would be very interesting. Good video!

Personally I think particularly the Triumph T100 &T120 have nailed the 'modern classic' followed by the Guzzi V7 classic. With regards to price we could say the Enfields are better bang for buck and certainly have a very charming nature..but we must take into consideration it's down on power, engine size and (not knocking it) build quality/finish (compared to triumph/Guzzi). Just my view from what I've seen and experienced.

I guess rough or what some call chacterful engine is a plus, and having a few citizens stopping commenting of the bike and mistaking it for a 1950s bike gets high marks. My 2017 Royal Enfield Classic Chrome 500 which certainly more chacterful and old school then would be a double King? I like the Royal Enfields and they are certainly entertaining and fun to polish and attack people like flowers attract bees. Personally I think if you have another four or five bikes in your garage then they are great but if you want to ride distance, speeds up to 75 mph or ride with friends with normal bikes you would be disappointed. Beautiful at 55 mph on small two lane roads without traffic riding alone for about an hour or so....that is the truth. Yes a king but of a very small kingdom.

We'll all have our favorites but for me the GT puts too much weight on your wrists, just like the Thruxton, so the T100 is the perfect retro. Each to their own.

Have to disagree my RE was the worst bike in terms of comfort and performance. Tried to castrate me and constantly would drop into neutral even when the clutch was not engaged. They make beautiful bikes but I wont ever buy another one. I admire the passion from the RE community but they are not for me .

No way that thing is better than a Guzzi. Rust for a start. Unless you cover it in ACF 50 from new it’s as bad as an old lancia

It’s not better than a Guzzi as I said. But the brand as a whole is what I’m saying in terms of ruling the modern classic sector

Royal Enfield are definitely making beautiful classic motorcycles BUT the Roger Ramjet logo R with Wings has to be the worst logo I've ever seen in my life. It's like My little Pony unicorn 🦄 logo, silly looking logo for a Classic machine. Royal Enfield Guns would have been better.
