I agree completely with you about MOB griptape. It's a shame it ruins shoes like crazy. When trying to learn to kick flip MOB griptape really kept getting my skate shoes stuck, whilst ruining them. I'm sure it is great griptape, but the super grippy stuff is not for me. By the way, how grippy DKL griptape is, also depends quite a lot on what skate shoes you're using it with. If you use something like the Vans with the rubber toe cap stuff, it will be very grippy on the flick. If you skate like eS Accel OGs where probably more suede will hit the rubber, it will be somewhat less grippy. In fact, I don't necessarily think it is more slippery than regular grip tape _most_ of the time. However, the big huge giant exception is when the griptape gets wet. DKL when wet is dangerous lol.

ive had the same DKL griptape for 3 months now and i have to say this griptape is great but a problem i didnt really expect was at the tail of the board, the griptape literally rubbed off around 2 months in. its not the biggest problem but is still annoying the other thing about this griptape is a significant problem when you live in somewhere like england where its raining and wet all the time, when theres the tiniest bit of water neer this griptape it turns into a complete slip n slide but overall this grip is absolutely amazing, those where the worst factors and the good definately outweighs the bad. i did use to use jessup grip so it wasnt as bog of as a transition for me but it definitely changes through people as my skating friends all hate it. rip

I have skated this griptape for almost 3 months now. Next friday will be 3 months to the day I put it on. Overall my shoes have been doing very well. Not nearly as destroyed as they could have been with regular griptape. Recently the griptape has been wearing down pretty badly though. It's been wearing off the tips of the nose and tail, the edges are also worn in slightly with one spot having a pretty big hole where the griptape has totally worn off the adheasive. There's also a hole forming where I pivot my front foot. It is kind of a pain to clean it before every session, but then again, it's nice to be able to practice kickflips without worrying about my shoes. I've been debating if I should order another sheet and just regrip the board. The board is worn pretty good, and some chippage is going on so I'm not sure if it's worth regripping the board or not. I'd prefer to not have to buy a new board every 3 months though haha. I'd rather just wear it out till it breaks or loses the shape completely. Do you think it's a bad idea to regrip a worn in board?
@BRZguy4 жыл бұрын
@@KendallBertaux1 Thanks for the reply. I figure if the griptape lasts me at least 2 months, that would be like $60 a year which is still cheaper than new shoes if you can make them last a year with shoe goo.
@BRZguy3 жыл бұрын
@@KendallBertaux1 So I've been actually debating on going back to regular griptape since my board has worn down a lot. I set up my old sandpaper deck again and went out skating today, and I actually felt anxious about doing certain tricks! I didn't want to practice kickflips because I'm still learning, and I know they'll totally destroy shoes. It actually made me want to skate less! I kind of forgot that the rubber griptape made skating feel a lot more liberating to me and I didn't have to worry about what tricks to do based on how hard they are on the shoes. So my decision was made when I arrived home and ordered 3 more sheets of it haha.
@Dodgeram1500hd4 жыл бұрын
I'm going to try I'm in. Out of respect that you took the time out for the review I gave you a like even though I disagree but I will now tell you why. I've been skating for 23 years , made it pro and now I run a skate team and work for a major truck retailer, rubber grip tape worked well enough on the ground and on Street. But that is where it ended. As soon as I went into a park especially an indoor park it became so slick from dust and so dangerously unpredictable that the increased risk factor outweighed the cost of shoes. I would rather have regular grip tape and tear up my shoes then replace my ACL because I slipped off my board on a 50/50 grind in indoor skatepark. It is so dangerously slick on transition that I would not recommend this to any except the most early of beginners on Street. Through those childhood years 3 grade school when you're just learning kickflips and 360 flips and stuff it would be fine and it would save you a bit of money. But once you're in a park or you're getting into competitions or starting to play around with ramps you need regular grip tape, the stuff just does not cut it and literally becomes unsafe very quickly.
@Steril7074 жыл бұрын
Had a similar experience, unfortunately. It's amazing on flat ground, but on transitions I felt kind of lost with the DKL. Not sure yet if I shouldn't switch back to regular one.
@PHeMoX3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't disagree more. The dust issue is mostly a problem that is limited to skateboard wheels. And the fix is not getting different skateboard wheels, but instead cleaning the wheels and being conscious of the problem. It's analogous to the problem you're describing with griptape. If regular griptape gets all sandy and dirty, it won't grip the same either! If there's too much dust there, it actually won't matter what grip tape you have on your board or how grippy your shoes are. As far as sliding out from the DKL grip tape, this happens with regular griptape too. People just don't blame the grip tape for it. Trust me, I've had my foot slide off regular grip tape with brand-new fresh shoes with a nice squeaky noise, just because the force was too much and my shoe got angled through friction, meaning it lost all grip. On regular grip tape. This really has nothing to do with DKL grip tape versus normal grip tape. Ask any bowl skater and you will hear they slip out some times too. And ironically, sometimes DKL has too much grip. I had a handful of times where I wanted to kick out my board, but it stuck a bit longer than I expected. It wasn't a big deal, but there's just no way it is easy to slip off from. That's just not true. Last but not least, I've seen pros skate with DKL griptape and they're doing all the advanced tricks you could ask for. Plenty of obstacles, plenty of ramps. So nah, sorry, but it's bs.

I liked your Review much. I have a new deck to Lay down the tape on. On the fence. I love My regular Mob grip but I had to wear it down a bit, because of what You pointed out about it being too grippy. It worked. My question is, how much do they last compared to a Mob one, which does not loose its grip by all accounts? Is moisture an issue? Is wear another issue? Very good Review! THX a lot
@KendallBertaux1 Жыл бұрын
Moisture can be an issue. The rubber grip doesn't work at all if it gets wet. If you take care of your board and wipe it down the rubber grip could last you a while. I usual make a board last anywhere between 1 to 2 months so I haven't done any super long term testing.

DKL has been a mixed bag for me. It's amazing on flat ground, but as soon as I hit transitions in parks, I felt a bit sketchy. It's a big factor if your shoes are new or not. If not, you will have a hard time with the DKL. I really wanted this to be amazing. I hate buying shoes all the time so much. But if it's my safety or money, I'd chose safety every time.

@@KendallBertaux1 I think the problem is, for some, that extra thickness of rubber may be detrimental to the "board feel" for riding and tricks in general. Grip tapes thinness reduces that extra thickness/rubber rebound. Again its a skater's preference, so I'm not saying everyone feels this way- like you for example.
