Putin has invaded his neighbouring country like a drunkard invading a wedding party. After the initial shock, everything is now starting to fight back with chair legs, bazookas, fire extinguishers, submachine guns and ashtrays, because in Ukraine the Ukrainians far outnumber any army - even the Russian army! The attackers can still simply go home, the defenders cannot, therefore Putin has already lost this war, only the exact date when this will be realised has not yet been set. So why discuss this invasion from any other perspective than that of an incredible military debacle for Russia?

It's a national debacle... Russians can't deal with the fact they either deal with their nation or seek refugee status and that's not going to be easy to prove. My opinion is that Russians had 30 years to grasp democracy but still don't get it. If my nation was attacking a neighbour, I can't just become a tourist... I have to deal with my nation, not help yourself to the stability of others... wake up Russians, you have a task at hand and you better get on with it.

I know one thing for sure now...the myth of the Russian military being so fearsome is just that, a myth! Mostly junk equipment given to conscripts who have lots of bullets and very little to eat being told what to do by generals who are dying at a rapid clip with "leadership" at the squad level that seems confused, slow to react, unprepared and now lacking motivation. Add to that the fact we've now seem plenty of evidence that Russia's military brass just literally leave their dead on the field of battle and scurry away like bugs! (America's military NEVER leaves its dead like that). Russia is swirling the sewer drain of history right now as I type....I say good riddance!

Putin began losing the moment the war went over a week's time. It was around then that any economical or geo-political gain from the war evaporated. Even if Putin took Ukraine *today* he'd never be able to hold it since controlling a country costs a lot more than invading it. Putin can't end the war because it would make him look weak (though that's already been established as the Russia army is woefully underdeveloped and corrupt to the point of insanity) so he continues the fight, but eventually no amount of stubbornness will be able to prolong this war and Putin will have no choice but to pull out.

If I had to place a bet, Putin had his "fifth column" in place in Ukraine since 2014, but when Zelensky came into power, dissolved the Assembly, and indirectly led to the election of younger and more patriotic people in the Parliament and as mayor, etc., the whole plan fell apart. However, no one wanted to inform Putin about it, because they value their lives. This theory may have been confirmed by the imprisonment of the chief of the FSB

If the state of disrepair of Russia's military can indicate the state of maintenance of their nukes, we may not have a lot to worry about. We need to be vigilant but when their army gets bogged down with flat tires and their tanks run out of fuel, there is a good chance the nuclear ICBM's don't work either. Regardless, this would be a good time to help them clear out their nuclear weapons arsenal. There was a documentary of Russia's Soviet submarines, nearly 300 ships, all of them have been dismantled because they were too expensive to maintain and they had no use for them since the prospect of war with America or China was not likely. Russia hired German contractors to demolish these subs and they have the nuclear reactors and the fuel stored in their far north. They want to wait 70 years for the contamination to go down and then dismantle them further.

I’m not convinced yet that desperate Putin won’t resort to more “weapons testing” as a means of intimidating Ukraine and getting a deal that looks like a better result on paper. Those attempts would have to be managed extremely well to not escalate. There are some bizarre elements to this war... 1. Some of those captured seem to genuinely think they were going on a military exercise. 2 Before the invasion even started, Putin was threatening to use nuclear, surely an act from a desperate leader? 3 I’ve driven from the Belarus border to Kiev, takes hours, not days... it’s taken Putins army over a week! 4 the invading army was ill equipped, unprepared. Who on earth organised the most disorganised logistical disaster? 5 for a leader to threaten 15 years jail for dissenting against the war is surely a man who is seriously worried about his position. 6 some say he’s accounted for the response from the west, but Putin has just turned the clock back 50 years in a week for Russia and the natives. Surely he’s cornered and has nowhere to go.

Let's hope Putin doesn't end up using low-yield tactical nuclear/chemical/biological weapons on Ukraine population centers, especially if he ultimately discovers he can't "win" the war using conventional weapons! Even if his forces do prevail, he would have *45 million* mouths to feed and would need additional forces/logistics to maintain peace and order during the occupation. This would be an additional economic and logistical drain on his military forces.

Gulf war one the US had a 90 day stock of ammo, rations and fuel on hand or arranged for on the Fuel side in position for the forward move.. Well after that I was shooting 1943 50 caliber ammo as a Reservist. Same with Bangalore torpedoes. They cleared most of the ancient stockpile out through reserve annual training before they had something happen untoward in storage. I retired from service Dec 1998 so I have no current idea of on hand stocks. Excess to government contract needs ammo From Federal cartridge was in stock in most gun departments until the riots and then covid hit setting off a buying spree. I think the US stockpiles are in good shape.

I don't blame the Russian people. I see three groups: 1. mostly young urban people who see the war exactly as we see it 2. Elderly people who have already accepted their victim role 3. People who support the war - not the war we see, but the highly sugarcoated version they get from the state media. We will have to wait some time until Russian people ask questions: what is going on? why is there no official information? why does it take so long if it is only in Donezk and Luhansk? where are the pictures of smiling Ukrainians thanking their liberators? why are there so heavy sanctions when it is a freedom mission? At some point in the future "I didn't know" will turn into "I didn't want to know". Then we can talk about blame. In case somebody wants to see Russian's opinion I suggest the channel "1420" with a lot of interviews. "Inside Russia" is a Russian man who still dares to speak about politics, sanctions, economy and what all this does to the Russian people. On both channels the fear is clearly visible.

The Ukrainians have captured Kherson airport and are in the process of retaking the city. Basically, that means that all the Russian troops west of Kherson towards Odessa are trapped. The landing craft ships the Russian navy can only deploy about 1000men. The successful use of anti tank missiles has already been demonstrated. Resupply convoys heading towards Kyiv are being intercepted. The large-scale destruction we are now seeing in Kyiv are now coming for the most part from cruise missles. The videos we see of Ukrainian soldiers show us middle-aged men, with N C Os directing those men inv what to do. The Ukrainians are being very smart in the videos that everyone sees, and are released to the public. We're seeing the after effects of battles, but we're not being shown how the battle came about. We can guess at the tactics, but that's about it.
