While I agree with you Scott is not always 100% correct but for a comparison, my 2004 Lexus LS430 with 200k miles has no code whatsoever when I scanned it yesterday. I remember when I took home my brand new E class in 2002, the next day 2 power windows crapped out and had to be replaced. Sold the Benz in 2003 due to multiple issues I cannot tolerate any longer.

@@FriendlyMBTech The first step of solving a problem is admitting there is a problem. I owned lots of cars, the only ones that never give me any headaches are the Lexus and Toyota. I still own a 1990 Land Cruiser with 350k miles and it still drives like brand new. Nothing broke, even the power windows are still working. I gotta admit Benz is good looking and definitely better than Tesla.

Its just personal preferance. German cars has more power while Japanese cars are more durable, generally. Mercedes build quality looks really good but often breaks a lot from my experience. My wife's Mercedes needs more cares and repairs during the years compare to my gx 460. But hey, she loves to drive it and thats what matters.

You’re confusing durability with reliability. Mercedes’ build quality is better than basically anything Japanese, and is more durable. Their attention to detail is also unbelievably better. The reason Japanese cars seem so reliable is because they’re extremely simple. If there is less complexity, you’ll generally have less problems. Mercedes driving dynamics and road feel are far ahead of most Japanese cars, and obviously this takes a lot of engineering to make happen... meaning more complexity and parts that could possibly fail. Japanese cars are especially boring and bland because they’re mostly designed to be cheap to own, not to be the BEST as Mercedes aims to be. A Mercedes is better than basically ANY Japanese car in almost EVERY way. It’s no surprise that they’ll need more attention.

First of all let me just say that I do believe Scotty Kilmer is full of crap, in general. Secondly I've been owing my Baby Benz for 30 years now and even though is getting harder and harder to find genuine parts, thank you Mercedes, I will not part ways. With that in mind I do have a quick question and a remark, quick question is: Is it normal for a 2021/2022 to have that many fault codes stored? At one point those were active codes, weren't they? That many for a new car? I"m sure they were fixed , hence the "stored" , still.....And my remark would be regarding the quality which in my humble opinion start going down starting with mid '90 and the introduction of new generation , W140 wiring, RUST in W203 (Mercedes was the gold standard , it was never heard of rust in any model) and so on, and now the EQS "only the specialist personnel of a qualified specialist workshop should open the hood. Access by customer is not permitted. To open the hood , consult a qualified specialist workshop". Anyways keep the video coming, specially for the W124 :D

10 out of 10 times when we diagnose a car for one concern, be it a check engine light or what have you, there are always unrelated codes found. Sometimes there are many related codes also. Is it common for that many code to be stored? Absolutely. Especially for newer cars. The number of control units in vehicles are increasing. Right now, certain models have more than 100 control units. So, to have 25 stored codes is normal. A lot of those faults he showed could have been caused by a one-time fault in one control unit. They're like dominoes. Since many control units talk to each other, one fault in one control unit will set a code, and each control unit down the line will in turn show a fault. 9 out of 10 times the driver didn't even know it happened because nothing is actually wrong. There would be nothing to fix or replace. A lot of the times when we process the fault, the computer will ask us, "was there a customer complaint? If not, this code can be ignored" or something to that effect. When it came to building a Mercedes, back in the W124 and W140 days, it was engineering before profit. Now it's the other way around. Mercedes build quality used to be a point of pride from Mercedes owners. Now it's a punchline. Mercedes as of late, has been moving in a direction that forces people to have to visit a dealership to maintain their vehicles. New vehicles you can physically replace the battery, but you can't reset the throughput data or even scan the new battery using a 2D scanner. It's getting kind of silly.

After having dismantled a W126 560 SEC AMG down to the very frame and body, I can tell you, those 80's Mercedes' were built like tanks. The job was pure joy, as the car was assembled by hand it was also easy to disassemble by hand. However, it spoiled me. Working on newer cars can feel like torture after that experience. You're right about the quality drop and timing of it as well. The early 90s saw the end of the hand-built Mercedes, and the end of an era when it came to that level of quality. The 2008 recession then led to a decrease of quality in all vehicles across the board. 2020 and the subsequent economic crisis (i.e. today's crap economy) didn't help/isn't helping the quality situation either. The saying, "they don't make 'em like they used to" still holds true, even for Mercedes.

9:14 - no they do not all break. Ford used that same design on the 2005 to 2009 mustangs and ive never seen one that didnt work. Those mustangs get abused a lot more than the Mercedes. The wind noise in those Celicas is atrocious hence why the Germans and later Ford used a different design. God, listing to Scotty is like nails on a chalkboard.

scotty talks like a hysterical woman. hate hearing him. I am a mercedes tech for over 28 years. I just replaced the l side fuel level sender on a w207 with 68k miles. It was spraying fuel everywhere due to bad plastic same as the prior 4 i did this year. i can say that inmo the mercedes engineers are waging a war against mechanics. I love my miata far more than I like my r230. from what I am seeing is that Mercedes is making poor quality cars that are very difficult to repair. My goal is to buy a 03-06 cl65 amg mechanic special. that is the one thing I like about my job is getting mechanic specials for pennies that cost as much as a home new. I can sat that my w126 om617 was a very well built car and what is being made now is not the quality of that 1982 300sd that I drove on used atf for 200k miles.

While I enjoy some of Scotty's videos and am thankful for many of his tips, when it comes to Mercedes he is clearly quite biased (and biased the other way for Toyota). As with any auto manufacturer, some models have more problems than others. The newer GLE/GLC/GLS models have already become notorious for issues (although those rear tires are sweet to look at). Way to pick the seemingly worst model they make, Scotty. I won't go off about some of Japan's absolute trash models, but it's common among all companies to have some bad eggs (including his bff Toyota). And, as mentioned in the video, a historic event is far different from a current code. As also mentioned, when there are that many it's usually from one incident causing a domino effect, which may simply be someone unhooked the battery slowly. This does not mean 25 issues or even necessarily any issues, for that matter. That's just a false narrative and Scotty must know that with the amount of experience he has. His bias rears it's ugly head again. Now, I'll hear complaints about the GLC/S/E models all day with some sympathy at least, but his trash talk about the Gen 1 CLS is just a sad display of his outright bias. The W219 is one of the most iconic and amazing chassis Mercedes ever built. Isn't it something that literally every other car company (including Toyota) did their best to copy it's insanely unique design? It's not just pretty, either. The CLS 55 AMG outperformed it's 2-door SL counterpart at the Nurburgring, which is widely known as one of the most monstrous cars to come out of the 2000s. Also, it's interesting he shows a CLS 550 badge after showing a CLS 500 (M113) engine. The Gen 1 CLS 550 was equipped with the M273 engine. Not even the same car? Badge swap? What gives? "Could you imagine when it's 5 or 6 years old?" Yes, yes I can. My current baby is 16 and my previous babies are now as old as 41 and still on the road in great shape. Mercedes are built for life, at least they certainly used to be. I'm not convinced any new car is built to last beyond 10 years. But at least Mercedes will sell parts for them forever (or as long as they exist). You can walk into a Merc dealer right now and get a control arm for an '82 SEC. Try asking any Japanese dealer for 40 year old parts. GL. 130k miles on my 16 year old CLS 550 and it has ZERO issues. The windows going up and down when opening/closing the doors is a great feature to save the window seal and have it seal tight, given that the car is a 4-door coupe (no frame around the windows). They've never failed. I've replaced suspension parts, brakes, oil, filters, tires, plugs, coils, and the CDs in the 6-disc changer that's ingeniously hidden in the dash. That's it. I've never had a more reliable car. It also smokes most Corvettes (especially on the highway), holds 4 people in a luxury interior, and is smooth enough at ludicrous speed to serve tea in the back seat. Good luck with that in a Toyota. I would also be remiss to not mention the 4-piston Brembo brakes this CLS is equipped with that stop the car on a dime, almost literally (and btw the AMGs have even crazier 8-piston Brembos with 4 pads per caliper!). I found this out recently when a family of deer ran out of the woods right in front of me. I went from 50mph to 0mph so fast that the air in my body kept going while my body stopped and left me breathless, as if I had the wind knocked out of me. No squeal, no ABS, the car just stopped as close to instantly as you can possibly imagine. If I had a Corolla for that event I'd now have a totaled Corolla, or at least the insurance company would, and I might be dead. If I was in my truck, I'd now have a totaled truck, but I'd probably be alive at least. However, since I drive a car that's built to PERFORM (not just go A to B without breaking too often) it was a non-event that I can laugh about now. Safety and performance matter a lot more than cost of maintenance or profit on resale. I understand why some, like Scotty, may disagree. However, I'm sure my kids, who still have a living father on earth (thanks to God and this car), do agree. And yes, Mercedes' do devalue quite a bit over time, due to the fact that repairs are expensive when done by a dealer. However, that's not a problem, that's a gift to humanity! It means you can get a CLS 550 luxury coupe in mint condition for less than Scotty paid for his Corolla (or any other Toyota he's ever owned). And if you do your own work, it probably costs less to maintain than a Toyota that has to go to a dealer for maintenance. This is a win-win situation. If you don't want your car to devalue then don't buy a new one, this goes for all manufacturers. Lastly, all those control modules he mentions, well they just make it super easy to diagnose almost any issue with the Mercedes STAR/Xentry diagnostic system. While Mercedes and the like seem to have gone a bit overboard with some of these modules in recent years, the late 90s through early 2010s models seem to be a sweet spot for diagnosis procedures on Mercs. While I'm not surprised a mechanic with 50 years experience (meaning he's probably at least 70 years old) wouldn't want to learn how to use a laptop with 'fancy' software and instead quit working on Mercs (Scotty's buddy story), it's pretty easy for anyone with average tech skills. Scotty and his friend can crawl around underneath their Toyotas on some nice, cold concrete floors getting sore and dirty all they want. Meanwhile, I'll plug in my laptop, have a coffee in my luxury interior, and probably find/resolve the issue 10x faster by simply lifting a few fingers. Enjoy the floor, Scotty! #WorkSmarterNotHarder

Funny i just watched this video to attempt to detour my daughter from buying a used Mercedes. Didn't work because owner priced it desperate to rid himself of it. I found a stack of service receipts most $650 dealer visits. Car has just over 110k miles, unfortunately you have not but debunked Scotty K. @webguy943 I'm not defending Mercedes-Benz. As a technician, I know more than most people how expensive and rubbish they can be. Nothing I said in the video is untrue. Codes don't equal problems. Just because a code is present, doesn't mean a repair is needed. Rotors don't need to be replaced every time pads need to be replaced. Washer reservoirs don't leak because of the cap. Any claims to the contrary are ludicrous and false. I'm not saying I know everything or that I am never wrong. I don't need 50 years experience to know those claims are misinformation.

I am so sorry, but if you spend $150,000.00 on a car..... it's not acceptable to have a problem, any problem at alllllllll. It should be covered by Mercedes 100% for at least 5 years, in my opinion. The factory is between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, and it is very impressive, I have been there. It was a very positive thing for the Alabama economy when it was built in.... 1993. Thirty years ago. 😮 Scotty is a little hard to take initially, but do your homework. As a child, he was a mathematical prodigy and has a extremely high IQ. This is just one video. Listening to Scotty about cars is a mistake. He's incredibly unprofessional and lacks enough knowledge of current cars. He is scared of multiple computers in cars. I have seen him do "repairs" on a gravel driveway letting dirt and gravel into areas that need to be clean. As far as suspension for MB, they are very easy to work on and good aftermarket are just as good as OEM and way cheaper. I can change a front strut on many Mercedes in less than an hour on my driveway and basic hand tools He is just too intimidated by these cars due to ignorance.
