Just discovered this video ramdomly and I must admit, this is the best review of my alltime favourite album ever. It's crazy that after 36 years I finally find a person who has had EXACTLY the same feelings as me about Seventh Son. Dickinson's phrasing and intonation, his grim yet majestic performance, unmatched by any metal singer to this day, sounds like that of a giant. As the album has strong mystic tale touch, while recorded between massive ancient castle walls. While I used to play C64 video games, especially the game Defender of the crown in 1988 as a child and listening to the Seventh Son -cassette for hours, weeks, later months, it created one of the most intense memory of my childhood.

Very good observation on Seventh Son. Great album indeed. I think Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and Somewhere in Time are Maiden's best of the best. Such a shame they don't play many of those songs live.

Sir Higgy, I first saw them in 1980 at our local Leisure Centre! That gig is now a part of local folklore!!! My favourite album is the first LP. Since then I've seen them on every single tour plus Festivals like the original Monsters of Rock!!

The album that shouldn't work but just clicks 150% Such a strong album. Their best for me. And the Seventh son song itself is probably their best song.

I remember vividly when SSOASS was released. I was already well and truly immersed in thrash and the extreme underground scene when it came out. I remember queuing up outside Penny Lane Records in Liverpool to buy it on the release day and it being the last Maiden vinyl I bought. I was 14 when it came out. I'd already been into Maiden since I was 10/11 and at the time (1988), I was looking for something a lot heavier and more and more extreme. I actually appreciated the album a lot more as I got older. Adrian is killer guitar player and a great songwriter and has a brilliant sense of melody and phrasing. TNOTB is my favourite Maiden album if I had to choose one. Carlo 🎸👍🏼

A friend of mine stole that cassette from the store in middle school and didn't like it and gave it to me. I listened to it and I thought he was completely insane. That sunk their 'Hooks in Me' lol

Totally agree. Was 12 when seventh son came out and whilst it wasn't my first Maiden purchase, LAD was, it was my first full album (also on cassette) and remains my favourite. Has a really unique sound and atmosphere that I just get lost in. Frost saw maiden in 1990 I think...At Wembley arena and supported by Anthrax. Awesome.

My "introduction" to Iron Maiden was the European release of "Killers", "Maiden Japan", and "Number of the Beast" via a friend who lived in Holland for a year and a half ( also "Killing Machine"/ Hell Bent For Leather and "British Steel" although I already had Screaming For Vengeance. For me, NotB is the best, and Somewhere in Time, although panned by a lot of people, is second. "Weak tracks" Invaders ( other then intro), and "Alexander the Great", but great solid albums...

Seventh Son is my favorite too. I was about 13 when I heard it. Totally agree on the fantasy appeal. I genuinely believed they had some kind of secret knowledge they were sharing through the music. Hahaha. Every time I listened to it I thought I was exposing myself to a mysterious power that I could absorb a bit more each time I listened to it. Still brings a smile and rekindling of that youthful fantasy when I listen to it now.

Seventh son is my favourite maiden album. Always has been. I love all the 80's stuff from them. I love the production from fear of the dark, but I do actually like the sound of no prayer. Those harmony guitars from run silent are epic! I have to agree about the production from the latest albums. Seems 'sloppy' in comparison to previous efforts? However, I do think senjutsu is a better album than book of souls. Hell on earth is a killer track....

As an album from start to finish, it’s gotta be Powerslave for me, although Seventh Son would be up there. Every album has its outstanding moments. Ben, what’s your favourite of the later albums? The Book of Souls is mine.
@BenHigginsOfficial
@BenHigginsOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
It's a hard choice, there's so many songs from each album that are great but not one that I can pinpoint as being all excellent from start to finish. It might be easier to say my least listened to post reunion albums which would be Dance of Death and Final Frontier
@TheWinterwraith
@TheWinterwraith 2 жыл бұрын
I got into Maiden with Powerslave, which is probably still my favourite album of theirs, But I genuinely love them all. Production wise I much prefer the Martin Birch era. Because the band looked up to him he was able to bring out the best in them, not just the sound but he pushed to their limits. Kevin Shirley is not a bad producer, but he’s there to do as he told, nothing else. And that to me is a bit of a shame. I first saw them live on the Seventh Son tour at Whitley Bay Ice rink, and many times since. They simply never fail to deliver live. Once had the great pleasure of meeting Bruce, and for a time I lived just round the corner from the Ruskin Arms where the Dianno era lineup made their name. It’s so hard to pin down exactly what it means to be Maiden fan. Part of something bigger? Part of a family maybe? When you turn up at a gig and see thousands of fans are wearing their t shirts is just awesome. And yet they they remain so unaffected and approachable. You could quite easily imagine bumping into them in a pub and having a pint and a chinwag with them. Diamond geezers as Sergeant Harris might say. As a new guitar player in the mid 80s Davey and H were a huge influence on me. So many fantastic riffs, and brilliant leads. Duelling guitars at dawn!! Like Sir Ben I could talk about Iron Maiden all day. Lol Up the Irons! 😁🤘

Arguably the best metal band ever! Number of the beast is my favourite album and Hallowed be thy name is my favourite song of all time. Up the Irons 🤘🏻 Edit: So many thing you spoke of hit home with me; Adrian’s phrasing, Hell on earth’s emotional melodies and Murray’s buttery lead tone. As a guitar player, my passion for playing will never end as long as I can listen to Maiden!

A lot of people say Virtual XI is Maiden's worst album but if it had the production values of Brave New World it would be a different story. Clansman, Lightning Strikes Twice, Futureal... there are some brilliant tracks on there
