What is a Third Culture Kid? Find out in today's video of my Afghan German friend, Nadjma!
This is a video I've been wanting to make for a while. It's about "Third Culture Kids" -- AKA people who are raised in a culture other than their parents' or the culture of the country on their passport during childhood.
At times, third culture kids may feel like they are living in two separate minds , or even worse, like they don't belong in the country they are living in... which is complete nonsense, because they should always be accepted as it was not their choice which life they were born into!
Today I met Nadjma, an Afghan German, in Hamburg. This is her story which I think speaks volumes for others around the world. If you can relate to being a Third Culture Kid, please share below in the comments!
Are you on Instagram? Come say hi @DrewBinsky! And join Nadjma's KZbin here: / @nadjmabeauty

@@commandologic4576 no, its because most people in Germany learn english in school, so they obviously learn english in german/while speaking german
@commandologic4576
@commandologic4576 3 жыл бұрын
@@yasin3899 No it's because in order to pronounce things in german correctly they use a certain accent. So when they try to learn english they still use the same accent, you can make your accent less subtle by trying to learn the correct pronounciation but it will still be there. This is also why germans find it hard to say words like the they would say it more with a z sound, because they don't have many words with the T H sound is not common in the german language. The whole accent thing is the same with all languages.

I used to live in Hamburg when I was studying there. It was my home for three years and I did meet quite a few Afghans there. I even ate at a restaurant called Kabul in downtown Hamburg. I never met this lady but I resonate with her story because I am also a third culture kid just like her. I am a mix of my parent's culture and heritage and the culture of the western country I was raised in. I have a mix of eastern and western values and I think that makes me special. I am very open minded to various lifestyles and cultures. There was a time when I was conflicted but now, I embrace it all. My childhood and my upbringing define me and I would not change it for anything in the world. ☺️

You are constantly referring to the language of Afghanistan as Dari, which is not incorrect but you have to understand that Dari is just a political term used to split the Farsi-speaking Afghans from other Persian-Speakers of the world. Joe’s Dad I think you’ve never been to Afghanistan. Afghanistan has 2 official languages. Pashto and Farsi, but only Pashtuns speak Pashto, while everyone in Afghanistan is able to speak Farsi, the lingua Franca is Farsi. So you tell me now what is the official language of a country, a language that only around 50% of the population is able to speak or a language that 90-100% of the population is able to speak ?

No the language of Afghanistan is pashto and DARI not farsi. Its not political thing bro its a fact. And the most people are talking pashto cause the most of the Population are pashtoon. But of course u hear more dari speaking people on the streets in Kabul mazar and herat cause not all pahtoons are living in the cities and cause dari is more easy. And PLZ dont Mix dari and farsi ok. @@Bazinga3972 Afghanistan has only one official language. Pukhtu/Pashto. The false narrative of Dari being an official language is something they have pushed for since the Russian-Afghan war. The current "government" that no one elected and which is in fact the same Northern Alliance warlords that were portrayed as villains in the Russian Afghan war are being backed up by America and it's allies now to keep the area in chaos. More than 80% of the population are ethnic Pashtuns. They all speak Pukhtu/Pashtu. Only a small percentage of them speak Dari to be able to communicate with the Dari speakers. The majority of refugees that came from Afghanistan are Dari speakers so there are even less Dari speakers in Afghanistan than in the refugee diaspora from Afghanistan. There are also some Tajik groups claiming to be Pukthun/Pashtun, because they tried to change their ethnicity to be able to get into the Loya Jirga/parliament (at least the father has to be Pukhtun/Pashtun for someone to get a say in the Loya Jirga) of Afghanistan pre Russian-Afghan war, it didn't work. They are still falsely claiming this... Karzai is one of those and so is Ghani.

Yeah because you would look nothing german. For obvious reasons country of birth is very different than genetically having those characteristics. For instance if both parents are afghan that makes you a afghan not German, as you would lack any Germanic characteristics. However, if you parent of each nationality that's when you can identify as a German .
