I had the good fortune to book a ticket to see Eivør support Heilung on their Australian tour this November. They both help me strip away the layered modern stresses and find my peaceful centre, the place where my soul can relax and just be

I'll never forget what John Lunn said about her. They had invited her to London to sing for that movie. And when she started singing, how his engineer just looked at him. Eivoer said, she went pretty bananas, when she did it. Beautiful story.

Bear McCreary hand-picking Eivør to perform the "voice" of Laufey/Faye was a stroke of musical genius. Her "Memories of Mother" is little more than her humming at one point, but it can and does evoke tears every time I hear it. Partly from it's sheer beauty, and partly because it conjures something sensitive yet primal, touching at once a mother's lullaby and something much more ethereal and ancient that I feel deep in my soul. She is to traditional Nordic music what old school Clannad and Lorena McKennitt are to traditional Celtic music.

Eivør's voice is truly captivating. I started listening to her solo albums last year, but haven't looked too far into her work for soundtracks. This is very intense and quite beautiful, and I absolutely love the false chord vocals that she uses on this song. It's one of my favorite techniques of hers

Hey. Just a couple of songs that could remind a bit of this from Eivør: “nú brennur tú í mær”, “min moður”, “í tokuni” and “summertime”. These songs are a bit older, but still some of my favorite from Eivør. She also just released a now song called “jardartra”, reminds me a bit more of her old style, and I love it! Hope it helps you a bit!

Another Nordic phenomenon...lovely voice, great songwriter...really quality music. I thoroughly agree it would be wonderful to rejoin our global heritage/origins of song. Part of me appreciates growing up learning the beauty of monastic chant. Part of me realizes there's so much more out there. Nordic music...I'm learning...is so gutterally chained to their nature. Tonight we have Auld Lang Syne...Happy New Year! 🥂

As a side note, the inward breath she uses in this style of singing is actually a common thing in Faroese, Iceland, and I think some dialects of Norwegian. It's used in speech for emphasis and modifying the meaning of things, by saying them on an inward breath.
@roylidstone36784 ай бұрын
She trained with a well known Inuit vocalist and then adapted into this ‘beatbox’ more structured style which is her own. That’s the route of this sound with added Faroese and Icelandic overtones . She spent five years in Iceland with a vocal coach. Why she can also do operatic , jazz , rock etc 👍🤘

Oh and Beth! You gotta check out tuvan throat singing! Now mongolian throat sing has quite a few styles but the one your interested in is called "kargyraa" thats the one where Kai from heilung uses aloooooot. In Maidjan he uses it too. But check that out! Its not supposed to hurt and if anything, just alittle dryness. Doing kargyraa really opened up my vocal cords deeply. Once you find your "golden vibration" it feels amazing. U should feel it in the back of your skull then it vibrates the whole body. Its awsome!

Although I loved Bernard Cornwell's novels, reading 100 pages of his battle scenes does not have the impact on me that 10 seconds of Eivor's fierce barbaric wailing has! It shows you how ink on a page can become so much more powerful when moved into pictures and sound.
