shop.airspool.... At last, finally a way to actually see your savings with a solar hybrid air conditioner!
Solar air conditioning wasn't really possible before. Why? The startup current for standard fixed-speed motors was 4-to-6 times greater than the running current, meaning you'd need 4-to-6 times more solar panels or 4-to-6x more battery power.
Does solar air conditioning really work now? Yes! Now, variable-speed DC compressors and fan motors allow you to plug solar panels directly into the unit, so no batteries, external voltage controllers, or inverters are needed. And, there's no in-rush, or surge, current, so you also don't need 4-to-6 times more solar panels. 1,500 watts will do it. Next, these solar ac units can run hybrid, so if it's cloudy or nighttime, they run using grid power, but solar is always prioritized. Good stuff!
Okay, so a lot of the friction has been solved for solar ac. But still, does it make sense? We've developed this calculator so you can know for sure. It takes into account your energy rates (higher means more saving by you), your part of the country (sunny summers means more savings for you), your usage patterns (daytime means more savings for you), and your normal annual air conditioning hours (more run time means more saving for you).
What are some things that help with the justification?
First, energy savings: If you can run the unit for free during sunny days, and at 22 SEER2 (quite a high SEER value) when it's cloudy or nighttime, each month, you'll sav money.
Next, there are attributes which may be important to your specific situation, and you're able to assign a value to these here. Things like...
· You wanted to do a mini-split or a window unit anyway, and that would have cost something. Take that cost into account here.
· Run for free even when the grid is down (you can't do this with net metered whole-house solar)
· Control your unit from anywhere where you have a cellphone or Internet connection with an app--no smart thermostat needed
· Want to leave your unit running even when you're on vacation to keep your plants happy, or just to have your house comfortable when you get back? Have at it! The unit runs for free, so no guilt for this guilty pleasure.
· Your main unit is getting a bit long in the tooth, and went out twice last summer This unit is a good backup to your main unit.
· Oh, this unit also heats! Yes, it's a heat pump, so run for free when it's sunny during the winter, and likely at a lower rate than running a natural gas or oil furnace between 35 degrees and 65 degrees, and save a ton over electric/electric baseboard heating
· Utility rates (for electricity and gas) keep increasing in your area. This unit helps lower the impact of those constant increases.
And, Airspool has 2 other great benefits to help cost justify your investment.
1. We're Energy Star approved, so you get 30% off via the Inflation Reduction Act. This also applies to the solar panels and the installation. So, a unit that has an up-front cost of, say, $3,000 is really only $2,100 after the discount.
2. We've developed the Quick 'n' Easy version of our product, which allows you to install one of these units, well, quick and easy. The line set is twist-to-connect--no vacuum pump or gauges necessary. Same with the communications/control wires. And, the alternating current plug is provided and pre-wired. Just plug it into any wall socket. Finally, the solar whips are also pre-wired...simple.
No net metering is required for this unit. It's the easiest and least expensive way to go solar for those with high summertime energy bills. Check out this video and subscribe to Airspool on KZbin, and go to airspool.com and shop.airspool.com for more details.
