What's causing the leak for your mini-split indoor unit?

Ouch! You have a 'leak' of condensate water coming from the bottom of your mini-split. What's causing it? How can it be assessed. Stay tuned to potentially discover the answer! #minisplit Oh, and keep your filters clean! I should have mentioned this. The filters are right under the top cover and slide out. If you don't keep them clean, multiple bad things can happen.
1. No air will be flowing out to keep you cool.
2. This lack of heat exchange could potentially send to much liquid refrigerant back to the compressor and harm it (since the compressor needs gaseous refrigerant).
3. Dirt from the filters can eventually escape the filters and plug the drain, causing the problem discussed in this video.

Can a clogged condensate hose cause a split system to not cool? I don’t have any visible leaking inside, and there is no dripping coming out of the outside pipe… and my system will not cool. Praying it’s not a refrigerant leak. I just repaired one of my other units and it was over $1000. Three major repairs over two units in the last nine months on ACs installed three years ago. 😭

Jess, it's hard to tell. It doesn't sound like it's related to anything with the condensate line.

@@airspool the tech just came and said it is most likely a leak somewhere 😭 I have three split systems all about three years old and this is the third major repair (2nd leak) in eight months. Am I just this unlucky? How common are leaks? I hear they’re rare. Could this be poor installation?

They are rare if the system is properly installed. During the installation, it should be tested at high pressure with nitrogen, and then tested at negative pressure using a vacuum pump. If it holds the pressure, then it will be fine once the refrigerator is released. So have a good talking to with whoever installed those units.

@@airspool the same person or company who installed them is the one servicing them. And they are telling me that “these things happen” because I live in Hawaii and it’s a rough climate. Meanwhile, no one else that I know is having these problems.
