Idw had white park from sonic 4 in it. I’d say they just had a rematch in little planet bc a lot of things took place in between cd and sonic 4 that had metal sonic in it. He was in chaitix and r so its whatever.

The classic books of the idw comics are in the classic timeline, so maybe sonic 4 only happens in the modern timeline

Canonically Sonic 4 takes place in the classic series, it plays like the scene with Tails remembering when he met Sonic but instead of using the classic look he uses the modern one
