Kling and Minimax for the win!

I use both everyday! but Runway unlimited is also very powerful, I like that you can just generate multiple times, it has certain features and serves a purpose for me. Also turbo is so fast, I do 5 or 6 gens and one might be like wow, amazing. You do have to prompt everything...like blink eyes twice, hair lightly moving in the breeze, I mean if you don't say every facial movement they look like zombies sometimes😆 I don't know I'm a runway fan, I can get amazing results, they need to give me a discount😂

I agree with your assessments... some that you did not choose look substantially better... but are not as accurate to the prompt (which is what you're examining). Like... the water detail in the 1st shot with the alien guy... the water looked really good where as there was basically no water detail in the comparison vid. For me, I favor prompt accuracy over quality most of the time. I hate drilling on prompts for hours to get the right camera angle...

Man, how things change. I was all aboard team Runway months ago, (until I ran out of credits) and was quite critical of Kling and had moved to HaiLuo, but recently, I noticed my HaiLuo generations missing the mark a lot and Kling seems pretty great now. And WTF happened to Runway? 😅

Runway’s Gen-3 never changed at all. It’s been out for a while. Where as Kling and Hailuo came out just months ago. They’re probably working on a newer model now. Let’s see what happens to Runway Gen-4.

get used to this. i was disgusted all the time with this kind of things. one does one thing, then the other tries to catch up, and so to do so, they kind of do hacks and workaround and kindf mess the video modles an so on. i do hope we get more stability when it comes to software itself, but this is going to advance so fast , that we need to become flexible. as a software developer i need to change almost all my skill set once in 3 years, and is pretty taxing because that needs to com out of my free time. but this? htis is so fast that you need to keep up in months. im not complaining touhg! but , yeah i get it. it is kind of frustrating...but i guess there is more good than bad. ok, good generations my friend, may your prompts have higher adherence! Kling is amazing, but the prompt must be complex and detailed.. if you only say, a woman waling in the street you can have mixed result, but when you take the time to tell Kling with camera angle to use, witch camera movement you want, the facial expression or the mood of the charcter, when you describe the environement with what you want it to do you get some amazing result.

Gen-3 Alpha and Gen-3 Alpha Turbo from Runway are both horrible, I ended up wasting my credits on trying to generate one decent text to video, all 4 turned out to be absolute shit, created a prompt through ChatGPT for Runway but the video it generated was not even close to the prompt, I entered the same exact prompt in Kling and it gave me way better result in the 1st try

I honestly think that unless you generated 100s or thousands of different prompts for the different engines could you really know any one is better. In one prompt it maybe fine in one and not so in another. One thing for sure is they all need to work on their text generation. text is so important and none of them can seem to map the text you ask for to accurate text. That seems like throwing money and that problem could actually yield results (ie using a specialized text generation engine that renders the text rather than a visually trained mechanic like they all obivously use now.

I've not used Sora yet, but IMHO Runway is currently the best overall option. Minimax was great but they ruined it with censorship. They check the inputs, the prompts, the generation while being generated, the output of the generation, a preliminary check and finally they have their human censors comb through every generation and will remove things by hand. It's crazy.

To be honest, this was not a fair comparison for a simple reason. RunwayML's documentation explicity says that their model DOES NOT work with natural language. There's a preferred structure which they explain in a 1 pager in each AI module. I'm not saying that this is how it should be. But if you're going to say "RunwayML does not handle XYZ" very welll, then do it after you've given it the proper parameters.

I think it's so funny that Sora won't sit still. I'm having the same trouble with ChatGPT. Like I have an array of 8 sets of steps with a basic 3 column chart below. Basically same format: 1 page repeat 8 times for different content [Steps, Chart]. It would do 2 or 3 of the 8 then begin deviating how it arranged the chart, the naming conventions for the steps. I ran out of time using 4o just getting the thing to sit still with keywords and reminders. I joked on another channel that it was too much like Stuart from MadTV, "Look what I can do!". HOLD STILL!! In these types of videos, I hear some really funny things. There’s no tool with which we can compare Sora’s capabilities. The camera movements are much more dynamic, and the colors and imagination are on an entirely different level. People who make these kinds of comparisons usually aren’t trained in cinema. Was something similar to what Shy Kids created ever done in Kling or Runway? I tried to recreate many of Sora’s showcase videos with Runway and Kling. Kling couldn’t even come close. Kling still shows distortions here and there. Sometimes the texture is good, sometimes it’s not. I haven’t encountered such issues with Sora. So far, I’ve made over 10,000 videos with these tools. What I’ve observed during this process is that each tool has a particular prompt structure it can understand. You can learn this structure over time. I tried this prompt on Runway, then on Kling. These are unreasonable comparisons. They both operate with different prompt structures.

Minimax (Hailou) for prompt adherence Kling for anything human related. Sora/Runway half a leg behind. Not worth the time, but might be useful in pushing down the price of the former two which are too expensive right now. Competition is great. And I cannot wait for the likes of Meta, Bytedance, Black Forest Labs etc to join the fray. Further pushing down prices and extending the length of the videos while adding more features. But OpenAI certainly is not a leader in video. Although these are just the mini versions of Sora, Kling etc. Even so, they are what normal people access without blowing our wallet. So this is what counts.

The chinese models do have to work around this chip export restrictions though. On the other hand they reportedly have access to more data than western AI video rivals have. It will be interesting going forward who ends up on top 5 years from now.

People heap praise on Sora because they take a few parts that are good, but that is the case with all models. Yet it's still being hyped, it's not even 3rd, honestly value wise and using image to video even Runway is better at $100 for my needs. Each model for me serves a purpose. I use Kling, Minimax, Runway, Luma and Vidu, they all serve a different purpose and each one has its strength and weakness. I will use Sora for bits and pieces, it's a great addition to the $20 tier for sure, but $200? No way...even with the other added ChatGPT features? no way, only a certain few will get value out of that, it's a tiny percentage. At $200 they get a certain # of subs, at $100 they would 3x that or more....they are leaving $$$ on the table, why? at $100 it would overload servers...so I think it's a capacity thing, the $200 version will drop to $100 once capacity is able to handle it, they may keep pro and just give you more video gens. By the way you have some of the best comparison videos on KZbin🙂
