Hey friend I get it I’m outraged too but as a budding game developer I just want to say we can’t treat the people who make a game as a monolith. There are DEFINITELY a lot of hardworking people who want the game to succeed. These projects sit at the cross roads of passion and finance and this is often the result when that happens. That said, it’s totally valid criticism! The game got marketed like hell and then fell off the face of the earth! But yeah they’re more than a single entity you know?

DFO player here: she's not an alcoholic, just a bartender(who's also a badass)-type. Booze is also a DNF duel only skill, she does have more alcohol themed naming in her skillset in DFO: "Blackout" "Old Fashioned" "Double Shot" "Shaker Blast" "Last Order"(Last Call) "Vintage", and arguably "Shattered Glass". "Rusty Nail" and a few of her other moves are also cocktail names.

I do think it's possible that DNF could eventually pull a Granblue and make a comeback later on, but for now it'll probably just be like most niche games where the dedicated players will remain consistent with a few new faces popping in every so often

Just FYI, DNFD is not an ASW fighting game, it's an 8ing fighting game that ASW "managed." In the credits, ASW gets a few mentions for character models and vague stuff about management. 8ing did almost everything, including designing the gameplay and systems.

I think it's gonna be really hard for DNF to come back, especially with the big wave of huge fighters on the horizon. DNF was only able to barley get by with it's launch peak because of recent ArcSys hype and rollback buzz word engagement. Would be cool if it did come back, but without any substantial content updates that aren't just characters, it probably will just fade away

DNF just has a lot of fundamental problems and balance patches haven't really shown to fully address major pain points, only alleviate them slightly. The long combos, slow movement, slow overall speed, massive moves, lack of fundamental air movement, no air blocking, no interesting defensive options, very powerful DPs... It just all makes the game feel sluggish to play as you wait forever for your turn. Neutral in this game is actually pretty fun and moves feel great to throw out, but it's over the moment someone gets hit because you convert into your best combo off almost everything.

It's called Cube because in DFO, level 35 and above skills cost cube fragments to use. You can also consume cubes with a cube contract to give you extra stats or change your default element damage.

Especially when they are a new I.P competing with other well known I.P. with build in audiences within the market. That was the thing Capcom learn from understanding the casual audience over the FGC is you can't just slap two modes in your fighting game and expect them to stick around for at least a month. You have to given them enough content to values their purchase for them to stick around in a long time or they will simple leave. They are a lot of games coming out and they can simple buy something else that values their money.

I mean is not like the game is bare bones or something. It has survival, arcade, story, gallery. It may have less characters than most fighting games but each one is really unique. Rather have that than 7 copies of Ryu or Goku. We´ll still get 4 more characters and a new stage. If the season pass is succesful enough maybe we could get even more content in the future. The game is worth it.

My biggest "problem" I guess with DNF Duel is I've only ever seen high-level play, I remember about a week after Spectre dropped someone in a discord I'm in mentioned figuring out a ToD combo with her, and I feel like every character having a 90% or even a Death combo is crazy, both positive and negative. It looks like it would be fun to play if me and my friends got it to fuck around, but knowing it has a lot of combos where you get hit by one move and it's GG doesn't appeal to me, personally.

I know the new system mechanics are probably enough to get people into it. But let's be real. If you want some anime fighter stuff there is no shortage of those out or coming out soon. If you want a decent ground based fighting game, SF6 is $60 and is worth the extra $10 at base price by a nearly infinite amount, thanks to the ridiculously high player count, servers that work more often than not, and an actual single player experience that isn't just arcade or tower.

DNF Duel won't be saved by one character, it'll be saved when the devs pull their heads out of their asses and start communicating and advertising events. It was already a red flag when they kept asking the players what they wanted from the game, it showed that they didn't really have a solid roadmap for what they wanted the game to be.

I also feel that it lacks content within the game itself for its price point since its not a legacy game that could get away with it, as many people mentioned i feel like it was issues with the dfo people that caused the giant delay, cause they had the perfect window, people were hyped and enjoyed the game and the only new big fighter coming out at the time (sf6) was still a year away almost every community in the fgc had someone playing the game but no communication for 6 months with no dlc announced people moved on, they did the first big patch which was great but since that didnt help the game there is little reason this patch even with a new character will

I mentioned on a max video that 7$ for spectre after the game died out so quickly was a joke of an asking price. Then had typical "hey don't talk bad about thing I like" conversation. I was eventually told the community doesn't need me I went online that evening and the player count was 328. "The community doesn't need you"

short answer: no. long answer: more conversions, more characters and even better balance won't do anything because none of those things help the actual problems that DNF has: -offense is so powerful and so easy that newbies get frustratingly washed even against other newbies, because playing defense is not any easier. and then they quit. -there's no content. playerbases grow by converting a small % of casual players into midcore players, if you don't have casuals to convert you also don't have new online players. it CAN be saved, SF5 recovered from a far worse start where everyone straight hated it, but all the combos and comeback mechanics and cubes on the planet won't do it. and no, releasing this in a reasonable timeframe wouldn't have made any difference.

I don't think we'll see the end of the S1 roadmap. We'll see the player count die again in a week or so and the devs will can their support. It tried to compete with guilty gear at the height of its popularity, now that we have an alternative with SF6 and Tekken / Granblue on the horizon there isn't going to be a game lull for it to take advantage of. I'd be surprised if we see a new 3rd character

If a game has a 1+ year development roadmap including new characters and balance patches, it is not dead. If a game has rollback netcode and at least two people who wanna play it, it is not dead. I'm tired of both the clickbait and the hate. If you're not in a game's discord day in, day out, asking for matches and consistently not getting any, stop calling the game dead. If you think a fighting game lives and dies on ranked matchmaking queue times, you should probably stop discussing them online. If you think a game's steam charts concurrent player counts dictates its life, especially when that game has multiple console versions, you might not have the full picture. This community, especially when it comes to online folks, has a nasty habit of playing a fighting game for 3 months, 6 months, seeing the ranked matchmaking times climb, the concurrent player counts dip, then write the game off as dead even though the devs haven't even gotten halfway through their post-release work on it yet. Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite "died" less than 6 months after release because the developer barely supported it after launch. That was between the low budget it was developed with from the beginning, and company politics BS that prevented Capcom from giving us the Marvel characters we all wanted (from X-Men). But community disdain didn't help, either. And you know what? People play MvCI every single day. If a company thinks a game is "dead," why would they continue to support it? That roadmap we got for DNF is not a contract they signed, it's a plan, and plans can change. Stop talking about DNF like nobody plays it or cares about it. It launched with one of the most enjoyable initial metas of any fighting game I've played in a long time, both new IPs and established ones. DNF is still going strong. Evo main stage involvement does not make or break a fighting game. Ask Skullgirls players about it. "But the DLC took over a year to come out!" In my day... don't even get me started

Was hyped for release. Didnt play the beta as im on pc. Bought it day 1. Played about 5 hrs and have no desire to touch it again. Just never felt fun to play. Confused by what it actually wants to be. A lot of it just felt bad to me. Ill be playing sf6, will get granblue, and am looking forward to project L. No desire at all to pick up DNF again regardless of DLC or roadmap

The two things this game especially needs imo is a combo break/burst mechanic and an extra universal air movement option, like something similar to Assault from Under Night. With just those two things (and a bit better character balance), I think this game could honestly be a top-tier fighting game contender. That said, competition's incredibly fierce right now, and I'm having a lot of fun with Street Fighter, Mahvel 3 and Melty Blood.

I'm hopeful after the season pass roadmap and I sincerely hope the game can make a comeback. I know ArcSys had to prioritize GGS and their new games in development especially if Neople wasn't supporting much through funding. If the new season pass was a funded decision by Neople I hope the support stays more consistent. DFO has an amazing cast of classes that would be fantastic fighting game characters and the launch roster for DNF reflects that. It might be too late for the game to recover especially after the SF6 release. Personally, I don't give a damn about SF6 but I do recognize how big the franchise is and that many players love it but DNF deserves way more than it's gotten.

i think this just ended up being what i'd honestly describe as an elevated ps2-era licensed fighting game. something with a lot under the hood, but nowhere near the support it needs to be taken seriously and a license that frankly just doesn't have much sway in a lot of places. like i will not for a second deny the prestige from both arc system works and eighting working on the game but it feels like it was simultaneously given a lot of love and made on the cheap. is it "dead"? definitely not, i mean i don't like calling things "discord fighters" even though that's kinda what they are but even THAT's enough to keep it "alive". plus if streamers/creators/plain old people are doggedly determined i think they can get a few more players on board. if people want a scene to grow they've gotta advertise and be kind to one another (i've definitely dropped games because people in the discord were total dogshit so yeah do NOT scare the newbies)

1 year of nothing then one new character and a balance patch. What's stopping them from pulling another year of nothing? I can understand why it is--bad things are bound to happen when you work with someone else's IP. DNF's IP ownership is pretty messy between Korean and Chinese companies, both countries are not famous for hands-off approach which is imo mandatory for complex project like this. I mean you can say most companies have a mini-tyrant style of decision making where a leader of sorts decides everything even if he knows jack shit about it. The guy probably nodded when his team asks for permission to order a fighting game from Arcsys, then felt like he's being robbed when Arcsys asked for more money for follow-up development. Now add that with two language barriers, maybe even some long ass permission chain running between 3 countries, well colour me surprised when things go sour. Will it be saved? It's a long shot but yeah I guess it's possible. Just won't bet my house on it though.

I think that Neople thought DF-Duel would be able to pull some of its MMO player base. Being one of the most played MMOs of all time and the gameplay of the MMO uses similar but watered down fighting game inputs for your combos. Its too bad this game didn’t do too well

I played the game on launch. It literally went to from 12000 peak on release to 1800 average players for that month to 216 players average, wolrd fucking wide in the very month after the releae month.That game died faster than anything ive played before. Reasons are IMO completely lifeless , uninspired single player, that leaves the characters bland and uninteresting. insanely busted mechanics (the safe reversal from hitman for example. Or the infinites) and moves so asburd and spammable , that i could not even imagine properly defending against that shit, not that the game was even attempting any effort to teach me how to properly defend against a character like that wind mage . This game felt like a testing ground for arc sys and nothing more. It had 15 average players last month, this game is absolutely dead and unrevivable . I still hope the 15 players still have fun.

This discussion is so wild to me cause like. A game doesn't need developer support to live. It needs COMMUNITY support. This has been the case for eons. It's like people are tricking themselves into not playing a game. Look, if you enjoy a video game and want to play it with other people it is up to YOU to keep playing it. I had a discussion about this with a friend, how people kept saying DNF Duel was a "dead" game. A game that isn't a Live Service can't ever be 100% dead and the game we both brought up about being VERY close to death was Last Epoch, an ARPG we both bought into years ago, this game had up until 2022 had a VERY steady update cadence and regularly added content to get it to content completion, and then they wasted a year on working on MP and setting it up while leaving the game unfinished in story, and characters as theres still character trees left unimplemented, and now that developer has to deal with the granddaddy of all APRGs, Diablo 4, coming out last month, and having it's season start in 2 days. it actually draws a pretty solid parallel with DNF Duel, basically a year of nothing and now we get spectre, but now the game has to deal with SF6, MK1 and T8 on the horizon. Difference here being, it doesn't matter if Nexon stops further support once the season pass is finished, the game will still be playable, people can come back to it as they please. If a Live Service game dies, everything dies with it. Those kinds of games can end up truly dead. Most games though they're still around and kicking, case in point, 3rd Strike. going by the logic of "developer isn't supporting the game, it's dead" would that not mean that 3rd Strike is "dead", yet, people still have it at tournaments and thanks to stuff like Parsec, have online matches. Most games only die once people stop playing them completely, not when a developer stops developing the game.

People who say the game isn’t dead because you can find Discord games need to stop coping. Like its ok to say a game is dead if the main component of that game is online multiplayer and less than 100 people actively playing at any given time. Nothing lasts forever and somethings never get started. If I can admit that every MGS game online is dead then you guys should reach that conclusion for DNF eventually

Not in the slightest, game was too ham from the start. I have never experienced anything more vile than good Swift Masters. And I mean, c'mon... Anime fighter where you can't block mid-air. Kusoge/10, coming from a DFO whale who adores the source material.

It maybe, just maybe has a chance, slight but if they step ut up to a more recognizable state then new people may actually buy it. Of course keeping it to pc and ps was always a dumb fuck move that would hinder sales of a new ip go figure and is something that should come xbox. (Honestly switch just cant run fighting games well from its low powered hardware, annoying network capabilities and its small as hell control scheme not to mention consistentsy with the frame rate)

yeah its just too little, too late unfortunately. I was super hyped for this game leading up to release because it just looked so cool but it ended up just feeling super janky and really not that fun to play. Spectre looks amazing as do most of the characters but it just left such a bad taste that I dont think I'm gonna go back for DLC characters they release a year later.

This game was done when the balance for it was straight outta wack. It feels horrible that characters could TOD you so easily. And characters were sooo broken that if your foot got tapped that you lost half your health bar or more. Combine that with no updates this game was doomed for failure
