One thing I don't like about the newer SpongeBob episodes is that the writers don't seem to get the older material they keep referencing. They think just saying "hey guys remember this?" will make up for the episode’s lack of quality, instead of figuring out why it was popular.

I hate the premise of there being a store that sells imagination boxes. It really defeats the purpose of SpongeBob and Patrick taking a mundane object and getting hours of enjoyment out of it. The whole joke was it was a normal box housing a TV, not something specifically designed for having fun in.

That's the issue with executives. They're so money hungry that they're willing to milk franchises that many shows are losing their charm to the point where they recycle plots. Loud House is also guilty of doing this. Too many episodes with Lincoln's friends and too many lying/misunderstanding episodes.

He's done a wonderful job voicing other things as of late, like simon in fiona and cake for example. I wouldn't be suppriesd if its just the uninspiring scripts, or that hes probably being directed poorly by shitty executives who don't understand what made the show/charicter good. Like, old spongebob still sounded silly, but also more adult and natural. Now spongebob just sounds (and acts) kid like and goofy 24/7, and I wouldnt be supprised if thats due to network meddling :/

It makes one wonder what happens if one of these actors dies. Or simply becomes too old to act. Because that can happen and if it does knowing Nick's track record they will keep the show going afterwards. They at least stopped using Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy in speaking roles after the deaths of their actors but I feel if a main character's actor dies or quits they won't be as respectful. Nickelodeon after all is known for scummy practices. They don't respect the original creator of the show after he died when he wished that there wouldn't be any spinoffs. Then they go to making not one but two spinoff shows after he died. After all they will do ANYTHING to keep their cash cow alive no matter how scummy it is. Like really let the Sponge rest. The first theatrical movie was meant to be the series finale.

In the early seasons, especially season 1, a defining feature of Patrick was that SpongeBob would often go to him for advice. That advice would sometimes be good (like motivating him to get the job at the Krusty Krab in Help Wanted) and sometimes bad (like telling him not to visit the doctor in Suds). But it was always advice in good faith.

i think a huge part of it is classic nostalgia goggles , which isn’t a bad thing !! as many intense ups and downs this show has, it was a big part of most millennial/gen z childhoods growing up and apparently spongebob was my first word. so there’s that. i think there’s something very comforting about a show that you’ve actively watched since diapers/been a huge part of pop culture since your childhood still being on the air with new eps, regardless on how much the quality drops.

Thing is that the Salty Spitoon is an actual place / location that has actual stuff happening in relation to what the place is and the kinds of people that visit it. It makes for an interesting plot point to show what happens inside. The whole point of the imagination box is the fact that it's *literally* just that: _A box._ It's just a random ordinary big box that they got from a TV (that they threw away). There's nothing supposed to be happening inside the box, because it's just a box. In a sense, the concept of the box being broken and having to go to a repair place sounds like it could be an interesting plot about how S&P lost their imagination. I can totally see that working in their favor, but that requires the basic elemental plot point of "Nothing _actually_ happens inside the box" to be resepcted, the fact that they were unable to respect or maybe even grasp that makes me doubt the merit of the episode in the first place.

I hate new episodes. I know a lot of people say "Some new episodes are good" and I'm glad some people can enjoy them. I am not one of those people. The over expressive art, the new background characters constantly coming in that don't look like they belong, it's all so far from what made me fall in love with this show as a kid. Now that I'm an adult, I truly believe that the movie should've been the end of spongebob. Sure, we would've missed out on quite a few good episodes from season 4-6, but I prefer that over seeing the current state of the show.

When listening to how he says imagination in both episodes it's clear Tom Kenney does not care anymore, he's been in the same role for over 20 years now and I think he's just sick of it by now, not to mention the shows deteriorating quality for years and years. Spongebob season 1-3 were really a pefect piece of love, and dare I say, *imagination*. They put care and effort into the ideas and execution they put on screen and you get episodes like Idiot Box which is also a play on a term for a TV as older generations like my grandpa have referred to a television as an idiot box. I digress but still what made it work was that we never see what was in that box while they were imagining it, because there was nothing it was truly just there imagination allowed them to run wild with themselves and not some magic crap, to be honest the episode is kind of about re-discovering lost imagination because Squidward has always been a sort of adult stand in character especially in the eyes of a child, and adults tend to lose their imagination with age so perhaps it's saying no matter how old you're never too old for a little imagination. To think the show is still practically riding off of it's first three seasons success, really was something special wasn't it
