She liked The Mandolorian & Boba Fett (mostly because of Grogu), but I couldn't watch Andor or The Acolyte with her. Mando and Fett had a lot of boring parts for small children, and the other two just were not kid friendly. This is wonderful. SC is made up of more than one person. Ryan is only reading scripts most of the time and usually tells you who actually wrote it at end of the video. Yes some titles are click/ragebait but they often end up actually defending whatever property they're talking about and present both sides of the argument. It's not like there aren't channels out there saying these things, if there weren't there's be no need for the titles in the first place

@@Pigeoncaster443 I wasn't saying the titles defend the property they're talking about, I was saying that Ryan and whoever he's hosting with/whoever wrote the script usually end up defending it. Tell us, where in this video did anybody actually say they think Star Wars is dead or that they didn't love the show? Did Ryan not himself say, "No amount of Star Wars is too much for me"? The title gets you to click. The video itself then disproves what the title says. How do you not get how this works. If the title said, "This new Star Wars show is GREAT!" then it wouldn't get nearly half the amount of views, which is why a channel exists in the first place, and it wouldn't help disprove the narrative nearly every other channel is saying about Star Wars and Marvel being "dead". Point being, Screen Crush doesn't actually think Star Wars is dying and if you'd actually watched the video(s) you'd get that

@sandal_thong86315 күн бұрын
I wouldn't call it child neglect. The boy is old enough to feed himself, wash and dress himself and make it to the school bus on time, supposedly. This is about the age when kids can reflect on their own actions and have more responsibility. Not only that, but they felt it was safe for the kids to wander the neighborhood and be "latchkey kids." There was a story last week about a mom being charged with endangerment for letting her kid walk into town. What's the message? Keep your kid on a short leash and under supervision at all times? I don't agree with that. For those who agree with this, then there were "safety droids" going around looking for truants.

Dude, there is a very understated problem with Star Wars and it’s this: The canon timeline doesn’t go on. Every show, novel and game, no matter how good or bad, are just fillers for the existing canon. We already know what happens. Palpatine somehow returns, he loses and Rey journeys on. There’s no mystery. Move the canon timeline FORWARD.

Why can’t a kid’s story be “for” our demographic as 30-year-olds? We need to learn to access our inner child; a lot of wonder and compassion and joy will begin to flow naturally. These kids acted great! Lighting and Cinematography is “grown up” (as opposed to the sitcom/Hannah Montana televised stage play styles.) In fact, we ARE the kids! We are fans of Jedi lore, we dream(ed) of adventure, we (still!) play with “swords,” we dress up, we are bored of suburbia. I posit this is still very much for us as adults.

I liked _Explorers_ but I didn't see _The Goonies_ until years later. I also didn't see _E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial_ at the movies, but a couple years later on home video, I think. One of my favorites is Henry Thomas in _Cloak & Dagger._ He plays games about spy vs. spy, but then gets involved in a real spy story, with his and his friend's lives on the line. He knows that shooting people for real has consequences, and the story deals with that. It's possible our main character, Wim, might have to point a blaster at someone and pull the trigger. Fern wasn't able to do it. Only one of them seems to really want to go home, Neel. Perhaps the others might want to do something else as the series progresses, especially if going home puts their world in danger.

The fairy ship that took them to the port reminded me of when Elliot escaped in the ambulance with his brother driving and the clear plastic tube was still attached, it’s a weird member berry but I think that’s what they were going for 🤷

I’m 53. I saw every film in theaters. I didn’t watch the 2000’s cartoons like Clone Wars, Rebels, etc. I LOVED “Skeleton Crew”! Definitely in my Top 5 of “new Star Wars” shows.

Grown ass man here, this is one of the best things Disney has done since it bought Star Wars. It has a sense of wonderment so clearly lacking in its other releases.

For me personally, the "real-world" aspect is what drew me heavily into the show. Made me feel like there were normal people in the Star Wars universe. My six year old daughter was glued to the screen the whole time.

They just don't get it...blatant rip off of Goonies, ET, and Stranger Things. The Earth-like planet with streets and grass lawns, as well as the use of human words and things is just disappointing. Lucas was so good at taking us to another place, but this stuff is just retreaded over and over. The pirate music and captains hats are right out of an earth based adventure. This isn't and wouldn't be the same in an entirely different galaxy. Lazy writing and lack of imagination is the death of Star Wars, not new material.

Skeleton Crew was amazing, this took me back to my child hood. It has a new feeling, like Andor, and a mix of the old fashion lightsabers and Jedi. Love it.

The issue with this series is that many people didn’t even know it had started. I’m a huge Star Wars fan & I didn’t know it had actually started until I saw you had a review up for it. I expect that more people will watch it on the lead up to Christmas.
@jackwladwig71426 күн бұрын
I honestly thought that these episodes where good, between this and Andor, I feel like Disney needs to start seeing that unconnected or just more focused things are the way to go. Not the freaking skywalkers

A couple of things. 1. I am constantly impressed by Ryan's analysis of movies in general, and in particular the Star Wars universe. He has an encyclopedic knowledge, but more than that, just has a very logical view of the industry, the making of the material, the writing, critiques of story structure, etc, etc, etc. Probably one of the best sources for this content. 2. Don't give up on Skeleton Crew just yet. As you all noted, Andor took a long time to build up to the support base it has now. Yes, many of us saw how good it was from Ep1, but many didn't, and only came on board later. I think SC is going to be the same. Also, and this is a small complaint, but I see the Goonies comparison everywhere, and of course I totally agree. But no one mentions other critical influences...namely, ET. A lot of direct influences from that movie.

My 12 yr old daughter is hooked, she can't wait for the next episode. I found it one of the better star wars shows as well. It's not only bringing in a new generation of fans, it's bridging the gap between generations as well.
@clairelamoureux42665 күн бұрын
Brian, I agree with you. The Disney Plus shows all need to be there or they wouldn't have a Star Wars channel. You can only work enough fanfare into the old trilogies before you run out of storylines. New stories are great for us old fans and to bring new ones into the fold. Plus, it's great to see new material and new ways to expand the Star Wars Universe. What's old becomes new so "yes" if the stories seem to have old themes reborn, why not? Some want everything and you can't please everyone. I love all of the beginning characters too, but it's time to allow change and let the SW series grow for the up and coming generations to enjoy.

Skeleton Crew is insanely full of things that feel like original Star Wars. I mean hell that opening scene was a twist on the boarding on the Tantive 4. I also think everyone saying "it is aimed at children" is underselling it.
@Lespritdelescali5 күн бұрын
I think people letting the episodes accumulate so they can binge them later is also a factor. That was why cancelling The Acolyte so quickly was kind of a shock - there were so many people who planned to watch it and did watch it eventually. They just didn't watch it live to air. I think that is going to be a big issue with this show considering it's family safe content and we're so close to the holidays.

I haven’t liked anything in Star Wars as much as I’ve like skeleton crew in a long time, and I’ve liked Disney Star Wars and wasnt looking forward to skeleton crew. I had such a great, actual laugh out loud, time watching it. The kids are so charming, it’s a lighthearted adventure that we haven’t had in a while. I immediately wanted to gather my nieces and nephews to watch it. I seriously would consider it to be the first thing to show people who have never seen Star Wars.

If they want to find their way home, they should be inspecting all of the information on the dead captains desk - that captain had to find information to find this hidden world to crash and die there. So the way back would be amongst that information.

The question is how much agency these kids have? Maybe 3 of them (not Neel) don't want to go home, and would become apprentices on the space ship if given the choice?

It is nice to see something outside the Skywalker saga. The universe is so large and there are so many other stories to be told, Disney does not need the Skywalkers to carry on.

I love it. My favourite films as a kid were Goonies, ET and Flight of the Navigator, and this show so far is Amblintastic. Surprised you spoke about Pirates of the Caribbean. Only criticism I’d make is that I would’ve released episode 1 alone and wait a week for ep2, or the entire series all in one go.

I don’t think the Star Wars universe is dead or dying, I think Disney has lost its ability to tell a story that is relatable to a wide audience.

So is this show for kids or parents? It has lots of nostalgia, but not Star Wars nostalgia; it’s 80’s pop culture nostalgia. Isn’t that meant for 40 something’s?

I grew up with these 80s movies, and I really enjoyed a new approach to the Star Wars universe. However, it gave me a great sense of nostalgia in being that kid who played with the action figures and played in forests pretending to be a Jedi.

I am like you three. I was 16 when Star Wars came out and I watched it 12 times in the theater, and have had every version of the movie up to now. I watch everything Star Wars, and have been pushing the idea of Keanu Reeves as Revan and do an Old Republic trilogy of being a jed and falling, being a Sith Lord with Malek, then being redeemed, including the destruction of Taris and introducing Bastila Shan.

Throwing my theory, which is built upon things said today: The planet is the vault but it's built by the pirates of the ship the kids found. Which is why the current pirates know about it because the ship is part of their history. And that the society that exists are the decendents of the survivors of the crashed ship. Why are there robot guards around that ship? Because they're preventing future residents from discovering the truth of their planet. Star Wars' version of "dead men tell no tales." These pirates who stole the ship wanted out of the game, found this planet, and chose to not tell future citizens of the planet. The children of today are just reading the stories that were on the original ship. Which is from the time they were active.

They just made a show aimed at a younger audience, as someone in his 50's and having to wait decades for new Star Wars I can say that a show is for me or not, I rather have that option than decades of waiting.
