I just purchased this chair after trying it on the showroom. I’m normally someone who prefers soft and cloud like cushioning so I was surprised I preferred the mesh but after trying every single steelcase model, I sat in the high back Karman and I didn’t want to get up, my spine melted into the contours of the chair and the support felt unlike anything I’d experienced like my back would be supported forever. I am 5’4” 140lb female for reference. I prefer not to use arm rests at all so the hardness didn’t register for me. If the fabric ever wears out steelcase will reupholster it for me and I feel like with my Black Friday discount I got a great deal on a buy it for very long time chair

The Karman Highback's backrest is incredibly comfortable, but the seat is surprisingly firm, especially compared to all-mesh chairs. When I tried the Highback at a Steelcase showroom, the backrest was fantastic, but the seat felt as hard as a rock with no give at all. The cushion doesn't really help, but then again, comfort and finding the right fit is all subjective. If you're considering this chair, it's important to try it yourself to see what works best for you. If I could combine the Aeron Remastered's seat with the Karman Highback's backrest, it would be my perfect chair.

Yeah I tried a Karman when testing some other Steelcase chairs and I assumed it was a cheap chair when I sat in it. The seat felt awful.
@droomagon4 ай бұрын
agreed, i have sat in it and its pretty comfy, but in this video he forget to mention that the recline motion (in LEAP), is very different from KARMAN, and not to mention that KARMAN is much cooler to sit in than LEAP

I'm really surprised that ppl are finding the seat to be firm and not as comfortable as the seat on the Aeron, especially since the Karman has a cushion for extra support. It just goes to show that what may make sense in theory does not always work out practically.
@Yottenburgen4 ай бұрын
Honestly surprised that the pad inside the seat isn't considered too firm, I got mine 5 months ago and have hoped that it would soften up, but it still feels only about as good as a butt ergonomic wooden kitchen table chair. Honestly having buyer's remorse for an otherwise decent chair over it. They sewed the thing into the mesh it seems so I can't even replace it without damaging the chair, let alone voiding the warranty. Oh nice you did address that, though honestly don't think that particular reason is why mine feels way too firm, but thank you for taking note of that. 5'6" here.

It's a god send to find this channel. But I was wondering if you could do a (another) big and tall video? I'm 6'2" 320lbs and I appreciate all the bells and whistles of the chairs you recommend but above all else, I am looking for a STURDY chair, I don't have to worry about things coming loose or bending or breaking. Fancy headrests and armrests are second to the reliable comfort a nice sturdy chair could provide. Any chance you would consider it as a video idea?

I have the exact opposite issue, american chairs are too big for me, I tried a Fern in my local retailer and it was way too wide for me, I'm looking for small build chairs, I guess I should look into european or asian brands. Good luck in your search !

@Haruntje Not purchasable via Amazon, at least in Italy, and I'm pretty sure not only here. You can certainly buy it through their site, losing the classic amazon warranties, though. And it's always better to have some alternatives in order to meet every preference

I have been following your channel for a long time and purchased an Aeron in 2020. Long story short I got into a bad accident a few months ago and after surgeries my back isn't what it used to be and needs more shoulder and upper back support than what the Aeron can offer. I tried a Gesture, but I am only 5'7 and the shoulder area felt very restricting as I am short, also the lombar being way too aggressive. I am young, so seat comfort and other things aren't as big of a deal at least right now, I just really need my back taken care of - would you say this would be a wise purchase? Thank you.
@StardustLegacyFighter3 ай бұрын
I'm sorry to hear about your accident. The Karman is definitely more flexible than the Aeron, although it seems to have other issues, and isn't vastly superior as ppl thought it would be when it launched. Have you tried the Leap v2? It has an excellent lumbar support system with depth and height adjustment, and a very flexible and supportive backrest. If you're still keen on a mesh seat, then I'd the Mirra 2 is an underrated choice, as it offers some key advantages over the Aeron. The backrest is firm, but more flexible and has a lumbar support system with height adjustment and separate tension adjustment for the left and right sides.

Does the Karman creak, rattle, or make any grinding noises (such as the Embody) when adjusting your posture or leaning back?
@btodtv4 ай бұрын
I would say this has been a very quiet chair in my experience. No creaks, rattles, or grinding. If something on your embody is rattling or grinding that sounds like a problem. Creaking is normal. - Robert

I really don't understand the ppl who hate these chairs when they haven't even tried any of them out for themselves. Comfort is so subjective that it makes no sense to take another person's word for it, because it can differ wildly between ppl. Also, hating on these high end chairs, because they're expensive, is just pathetic. I can't afford the Rolls Royce Phantom, but you don't hear me bitch about that.

This is Steelcase though, not some cheap ass Chinese furniture company. Their warranty is considered to be one of the best within the industry, so it makes no sense for them to make poor quality chairs that they would have to keep replacing for free.

Why does all these expensive chairs have terrible seats? Its a freaking chair!!

So according to your logic the Leap v2, Amia, Fern all have terrible seats? Comfort is very subjective, and unless you've physically tried any of these chairs, you're just being an armchair critic (pun not intended).

I'm not defending this chair, but have you actually sat on one before jumping to conclusions? Chairs from these companies are expensive, but they're so much better than anything you could buy at Staples or IKEA. In terms of ergonomics, features, comfort and build quality, there is no competition. Even the plastic they use feels robust.
@SomeFrenchDude3 ай бұрын
@@StardustLegacyFighter most of the cost is because of branding, let's be honest here.
@StardustLegacyFighter3 ай бұрын
@@SomeFrenchDudeI mean, every company has a profit margin, so that's a given. However, you still get a hassle free 12-year warranty and a pretty solid resale value. I would never pay full price for these chairs, as they do many deals throughout out the year, and that's how I got my Aeron for around £300 less than RRP, almost 3 years ago.
