I haven’t even finished the episode yet, but the comments already have me thinking (conviction comes at different times for everyone) but i just started deleting a lot of my rap music and stuff and i just want to put out there that everyone here should ask God for discernment for music because at the end of the day, satan is the king of the music industry, period. We should ALL be careful about who we’re listening to, what they support, etc. it goes so much deeper than that, but i think let’s all start there instead of coming after Jeanine

I get really frustrated by the Christians who are quick to judge and tell others what to do, when each of us is equally a sinner. I don’t think any Christian can confidently say they walk in line with the Christian values every single day, we can try to but we are never perfect. I love Taylor, and I do believe she is a Christian at heart. Has she faced trials and tribulations that have made her question her faith? I’m sure she has, we’d be lying if none of us haven’t faced that at some point. Especially since she grew up in Hollywood. I agree with the point of praying for her, everyone needs prayer, but I also don’t think she’s satanic. Her actions in the way she treats people and helps communities is more in alignment with Jesus, than most Christians. While spreading the word is always good, I think Christ also expects us to live out our faith not just speak the word. Which I do think she does both publicly and privately. Treating people with kindness, opening up her home, providing significant donations in silence to every city she visits, speaking up in the face of injustice, people are quick to omit these talking points because it doesn’t fit their anti-Taylor rhetoric. Regarding the lyrics, I think people are looking at these from a superficial point of view. This album was a healing journey after a break up of a six year relationship. I don’t think she’s encouraging darkness. She’s documenting her journey to healing and sometimes the journey includes darkness. We ALL experience moments of darkness, it’s a part of life. I think it’s beautiful she documents those feelings and releases those emotions via song to move on. We saw that in reputation, being completely destroyed and in the midst of that finding redemption. It was during that time she documented and reminded everyone she was a Christian. I could go on and on, but I stand by my girl. I love Christ and I know at the end of the day the Lord is more preoccupied with how I spread the word and walk by faith rather than how I form opinions of others. PS. If we want to analyze anything let’s look into the mega churches who claim to be Christian and pay their pastors millions of dollars. Pastors who are often caught not living by the word. Mega churches who use their attendees as business transactions and don’t help those in need. I think the church needs to analyze ourselves before we cast a stone to others.

Everything you said was on point and I agree with you. Obviously we don’t know Taylor personally, but we’ve followed her career for so many years and we’ve gotten to know her heart and know she’s a good person and she’s never done or said anything that has affected my faith and my relationship with God. It actually makes me think that the people who judge her so superficially (and for something so subjective like her lyrics) are actually the ones who have issues with their faith.

Love you really sharing what you think knowing you’ll get pushback. It’s unfortunate that a lot of the swifties are on the defense when someone says “hey these lyrics are really negative about my faith” It’s not something to defend. I pray for spiritual maturity for the Christian swifties that blindly defend.

I am a fan of Taylor Swift’s music (I don’t like the label ‘swiftie’; it’s become kind of culty in my opinion) and I was originally one of the people that just defended her lyrics no matter what. Praise God, he has been convicting me so much lately about what I put into my mind. No, I don’t think she’s demonic and I don’t expect her to write lyrics that are God glorifying (she’s not a Christ follower so why would she?) but I don’t have to listen to those songs. The songs by her-or by any artist-that convict me, I just don’t listen to anymore. I have actually tried to keep listening to them and the Spirit has so strongly convicted me that I can’t even get through the song. I just don’t even want to listen to it anymore 🙌🏻

I just want to say that I believe this conversation that Jeanine and Caleb are having is so necessary, especially for those who are new to the faith. There is so much deception in the world and sometimes it is necessary for more mature believers to highlight these things and point people to the truth. I've seen lots of comments from people who are very offended by the conversation regarding Taylor Swift and I do not think Caleb and Jeanine were gossiping nor were they judging Taylor Swift at all. It is so important for us to assess the fruit of the people we decide to follow and test the spirit behind all things against the word of God. If the fruit and the spirit do not align with the word of God and/or the fruit of the Holy Spirit, then that gives us a clear indication of what spirit is behind these things or people.

Kanye jumped up on stage because he thought Beyoncé should’ve won. I’m not a Taylor Swift or Beyonce fan. They have some good songs. But I don’t like their lyrics. It’s not something I want to follow or want my daughters to look up to. They dress too revealing, their lyrics are not pure beautiful, honorable, lovely to most of their songs. That’s how I decide who I listen to. I feel the same way about Halloween. Nothing pure beautiful lovely honorable. I try to stay away from anything that is dark.

I stopped listening to tswift at her Lovers album, every year the curse words multiplied and got worse (not that I am ranking curse words, they’re all bad, but when she started dropping F bombs and saying Gods name in vain 😵 I could NOT listen) I was a self - proclaimed swiftie, an OG fan if you will from 08/09 until ‘19, I just have a stirring in my spirit with all her new stuff that doesn’t sit right with me, it was a inward battle to finally stop listening, but I finally realized that she’s not going back to the “teardrops on my guitar” days 😭 Kaleb is right though, you can’t hate on T swift and listen to people like wakaflacka (I also have no idea who he was I had to google him😂) secular music and Christianity is a tough topic but I’m so glad you guys touched on it! 42:16 I think everyone has their own personal conviction, I had to stop watching the bachelor too but still have so many friends that I watch it! I know this is so cheesy but I found a “clean” version of the bachelor that I love and it’s called “farmer wants a wife” it’s far less raunchy and less drama, I don’t have a conviction with that show like I do the bachelor 😅 I don’t think I’m any better than my friends that still watch it just because I choose not to, that’s the beautiful thing about sanctification, and personal conviction, something I am convicted about may not be a conviction to others , and THATS OK😊

I love that you are having this conversation. In regards to The Bachelor, I think you have a good enough reason, and I wonder if deep down you feel the holy spirits conviction, to stop watching it. At best, morally it is very grey, but I would argue it’s obviously founded on sinful desires/pursuits. And - regardless of the content, you’ve already discussed what’s behind what we see on tv : an ultimately corrupt industry. If you watch the Bachelor, you are supporting the very industry that you’re also voicing very valid concerns over. There’s no way around that. The only way to not support would be to stop watching! Follow the spirit. My husband and I have recently decided to stop watching The Office, my favorite tv show, because we can’t deny the content is not helpful to our pursuit of holiness.

Y’all judging Taylor based on some lyrics that you interpreted on surface level when they’re actually a metaphor is wild. First, because the bible literally says not to judge others. Second, Taylor is not saying she’s God or anything like that. It’s just a figure of speech. And third, I recommend you do some research on all the good things she’s done that makes her such a good role model. People can admire celebrities and it doesn’t mean they’re worshipping them. 🫶🏼

It’s actually not that wild. Using God loosely as a “metaphor” is teetering the line of blasphemy (not even really teetering tbh). Secondly, there is something called righteous judgement. There is light vs. darkness, right vs. wrong, and it’s okay to call it out. People need to learn the difference between being straight up judgmental and calling out darkness & sin. Also, they are not saying she’s a bad person or a bad role model necessarily, but there are some questionable things about her performances and lyrics that some people just can’t ignore. It’s honestly just a little scary how quick people are to defend a celebrity before they defend God (for Christians).

I would argue that Taylor professing herself as Christian is contradictory to her making millions of dollars off of her concerts and tours, granted she can’t control her level of success. There’s a certain status that celebrities reach where they are told what to do to reach that level of fame. But I think that she would be acknowledging God in her music rather than mocking or blaspheming God if she was truly a believer.
