Hi Dylan, we are doing preliminary research for our move to Maui and we have a 2024 Model Y to ship there. I understand that the Tesla Service Center is in Honolulu so if I need service in Maui do I have to ship the car to Honolulu? or do they have a service technician come over to Maui? There are mobile techs that provide service on the outer islands but if you need something major done, it needs to go oahu. That being said, I am on my second tesla and after 3 years of driving the first one, I never once had any maintenance done.

Ive heard and seen stories about quality and fitment issues. body and part replacements and repairs are not cheap and are required to be done by either Tesla or a Tesla approved mechanic only or run the risk of losing your membership or features. This true? I would love to own a Tesla, but theorhetically it does cost more in comparison regarding repairs and maintanence, and that is another level of stress I dont need in my life. Im happy with my Subaru that I can buy parts relatively cheap and find easily as well as fix or repair myself. Maybe one day when costs get heaper and competition increases so there are more services.

Yeah, Tesla operates its own service centers to maintain the warranty coverage, it's generally recommended to have repairs and replacements performed by Tesla or Tesla-approved service centers.

Dylan, I will be visiting Big Island in few months and am thinking to rent a Tesla...but unsure about the followings: 1. Will a model 3 or Y be allowed by the rangers to climb up to the top of Mouna Kea? If not, what other rental vehicles are allowed other than Jeeps? 2. How do you find fast charging locations on the island? Any Supercharger? How long does it usually take to fully charge up the vehicle at the third parties' stations? How much will it cost in average? You need 4wd to get up to Mauna Kea, so you would have the range but its not a good idea to take a Tesla up. We have limited charging stations so if you dont have a place to charge it where you are staying, I would not rent a Tesla.

The issue with tiny homes is there is the counties don't have a process to permit them so they are not technically legal dwellings or real estate. This is a issue that will take some time to solve and I hope they do.

Hawaii is the 2nd state with the most electric vehicles, and the lithium-ion batteries are notorious for burning longer and hotter than gas vehicles, I wonder how much this factored into the Maui fires 😬💔
