I bought FSD in Canada at $10K back in October 2020, when I saw it make a successful left turn for the first time in a video posted by Teslaraj. Four years later, I have no regrets. I was blessed to experience the evolution of this technology first hand. Now that it is only $99/month, I am still happy I bought it because that's a monthly subscription less to pay, which I may be tempted to cut whenever there are unexpected high expenses in my household. I cannot imagine going back to basic autopilot, even temporarily.

The real question that needs to be answered is does the FSD software work well enough to buy or subscribe at all? After using the free preview for the last 30 days the answer for me is a solid no. It's just not ready for prime time and I'm not willing to fund Elon's R&D until it is. I found it to be decent on long highway drives with minimal traffic, but in rush hour congestion it didn't get the job done.

I also tested FSD with the free month in Montréal. I have not a single test drive with no intervention. And no, they were not huge drives. All will get addressed. Had the free month come once it was more stable, not going through a red light, not missing a turn for no reason, etc.

What I want to know is. If you do not purchase FSD now since it is the only option that was to install the FSD computer, when you got Auto-Pilot they would install the FSD computer as well for that. but you didnt get the FSD untill you got the license. However if you do not get anything at all, will they install the FSD computer (for free) for you when you subscribe?

The $99/month sounds great, but who knows when it will go up. We all know that it will. So purchase or subscribe? In Canada currently if you subscribe, it will take you like 10 years to get to the 11K price tag. So I would say lease. However, in X months, the 99/month might be 200/month.

Good point. Either way it’s a gamble because of the way Tesla prices fluctuate so much. But right now the money is on subscription. They would have to raise it significantly to make the full purchase a better option.

Here is a thought for you, not directly related to your video topic. If autonomous driving is not approved in Ontario, is Smart Summon legal to use? There was a case in Montreal with a guy who used Smart Summon in the mall. The M3 hit the car parked beside it when it came our of the parking spot. According to the Quebec minister in charge of roads etc., Smart Summon is not allowed on public or PRIVATE areas where other public cars might be. So basically, use it in your back yard. :) I am guessing that deep down in the fine print, Tesla says use it at your own discretion where allowed according to local regulations..... So, do you guys think that Smart Summon might be illegal to use in most provinces/states?

Your insurance company may see it as a car upgrade which is generally not covered. But every insurance company and policy is different.

Things to consider on this decision: -FSD used to be $200/month (and up to $15k to buy outright), so depending on your perspective this either makes it a great deal now or still a ripoff since Tesla’s insane fluctuation around the price of FSD beta makes it’s value subjective. Tesla certainly screwed those who bought it at $15k, so try not be a sucker. Subscribe only if you are curious. -The successful FSD beta videos are cherry-picked. We have used FSD beta in our Model Y enough to know that fanboy channels like this misrepresent both FSD’s capabilities and safety. -FSD beta is unethical. You click the agreement on the screen that shifts all of the liability of this bulk data testing (of which Tesla is the beneficiary) onto you as the driver. You risk your life and the lives of others for the benefit of a corporation. -The human element: after about 9 months of using FSD beta in our Model Y, we unsubscribed once the newness wore off and never used it again for a few reasons. 1) FSD is not a good driver, full stop. By machine standards, it’s spectacular-by human standards I doubt it could pass a driving test. 2) It increased driving stress. It takes too long to make turns in anything more than light traffic. It attempted to drive into oncoming traffic more than once. Sometimes it worked great, but mostly using FSD was constant intervention. 3) It decreased driving pleasure. The car consistently (often erroneously) beeps and bongs at you, frustrating any attempt to listen to music or podcasts. 4) Got locked out erroneously. The last month we used it, it randomly locked us out for 2 weeks, so there was half of the $200 we paid for the month down the drain. $200/month is an easy bill to shed, especially considering that driving my car myself was never a problem I needed fixed. Summary: If you’re super curious, just try it for a month or two, but under NO circumstances buy it outright. Tesla might cut the price in half again next month and you’re the sucker.

I agree with you in subscribing is the safer choice considering the price fluctuations. I also agree with you that a lot of FSD content is cherry picked, I know this to be a fact. But THIS is not a fan boy channel. If I wanted a zero intervention drive I would easily not drive the last roundabout. But in all my FSD videos I’ve shown how it messes up the last roundabout.

FSD is not worth it. It will shut off the auto drive if the camera detect your eye not directly looking forward. Also, it ask you to pull the steering wheel once every few minutes. It is so annoying.

Why would I pay someone to drive my car unless you want a chauffeur? I have got a drivers license for a reason. I’ll be interested in FSD when they will take on all liabilities for when accidents happen and they can prove that FSD is safer than human drivers in all the terrain where 99% of people travels to. My life is worth more than simple conveniences. I have gotten into an accident for 30yrs since I got my license. I doubt any FSD can have that sort of track record.

😂 you are old. The vast majority of software is subscription only. You don’t own the product you’re just paying for the right to use it. At the end of the day it’s about cost. If you want FSD and you are going to keep the vehicles long enough to drop the monthly cost to less than $99 a month it’s worth it to pay the one time fee for the vehicle. If you don’t plan on keeping the vehicle for more than 7 years it’s cheaper to just pay the $99 a month.

100%. I’ve had Adobe photoshop for years and I’ve prob paid much more that the actual cost of the program. But at least I get all the latest updates for as long as I have my subscription
