Who the heck is the idiot that believe that regenerative breaking is making you consume more energy going down because you have to press the accelerator? Seriously?

Curious to see efficiency between coasting down a medium hill to then return back up a hill vs regen braking down the hill and then accelerating up the next hill

That's where the idea for the test came from, unfortunatley there's not an easy way to calculate energy consumption in such a small sample size. I do get the instant energy expenditure but would need some serious time and math to calculate it over a period of time.

Regen is "Full control of the car". Coasting is so much more dangerous than enabling one pedal driving.

@@sonovabeach measure how far the car travels in the time it takes for you to lift your foot off the acceleration pedal and depress the brake pedal and you will understand why regen braking is so desirable for safety.😉
@sonovabeach
@sonovabeach 2 күн бұрын
@@LearningFast I've been driving ice cars for 32yrs, and an EV with regen braking for about 6mo. I'm well aware of the differences. I would say one pedal driving is largely a convenience, and it might offer a fraction of a second difference. But it doesn't warrant calling ice cars "dangerous". If a fraction of a second of braking time is going to be a factor, you will definitely be needing your friction brakes anyway. So again, your argument is rather weak.
@LearningFast
@LearningFast 2 күн бұрын
@@sonovabeach you’re wrong. That fraction of a second matters when stopping from highway speeds. At 70 mph you travel 102+ feet per second. Even a fraction of a second is more than 10 feet you lose of stopping distance.
@sonovabeach
@sonovabeach 2 күн бұрын
@@LearningFast No I'm not. That little bit of time when your foot transitions from gas to brake pedal, your regen braking is not going to reduce your velocity by very much at all. Again, in that case your friction brakes are taking care of the vast majority of any measurable stopping distance. The number of instances where your regen braking is going to save you from a traffic collision is about nil. It's not designed for that anyway. Wasn't meant for that. Doesn't do that. So just stop.... get it? Stop. lol
@LearningFast
@LearningFast 2 күн бұрын
When you need to brake then regen braking is almost 100% more efficient than friction braking. It is a no brainer to use regen when you need to stop or slow down. However, when you are cruising down the highway especially when going slightly downhill the choice is between coasting and regen. In some specific scenarios coasting will actually be slightly more efficient than leaving regen enabled. You really have to enable and disable regen as you drive to maximize efficiency. Maintaining a constant speed the entire time is actually the single most effective thing you can do for efficiency when driving at highway speeds without traffic.
@mil3761
@mil3761 Күн бұрын
Agreed. Although one thing to note is that regen is not just a binary it's engaged or not engaged thing. You can use the accelerator pedal to gradually control how much regen is used up to the max regen of the car. Say for example, you're on a straight road with a stop sign quite far ahead. In most cars like a Tesla, you wouldn't just abruptly come off the accelerator because the regen would slow you down too quickly, so you'd feather the accelerator pedal to only give you the amount of regen you needed. And in most careful driving, you'd only use the full regen of the car when you're at very low speed like the last 10 mph. Obviously, if you need to more suddenly brake then you'd either use the full regen or even press the brake pedal.

I’m currently in “Tesla jail”. We went on a day trip to Niagara Falls and while driving, I was showing my nephew from Italy, some of Tesla’s features on its screen. Because I was on the highway, and there was very light traffic I didn’t think I was doing anything unsafe but Teslas lawyers must have . Also, I didn’t really understand the strikes system. My question to anyone out there is when you do get strikes, do they ever reset after a certain amount of time?

Very helpful video. I bought a Model Y 3 weeks back and already have 4 strikes on my first month free trial of FSD. Once the free one month FSD is over and if after that, I sign up for monthly subscription, will the strikes reset to 0? Planning a trip and that's why want to subscribe but dont want the strike count to start at 4 and then get locked out right at the start of the trip.
@northerntesla
@northerntesla 18 күн бұрын
I’m not sure if it will reset. My suggestion is on the last day of the trial, purposely get your fifth strike, you’ll then start your week suspension. Hopefully that is before your road trip. But be mindful that you’ll also lose regular autopilot during that suspension. When 12.4 is released you’ll be able to get rid of strikes
