I'd say Europe doesn't have the same 19th century perspective on race that the US has where there are clear, specific categories that people actually believe in, but that doesn't mean Europeans aren't racist as fuck. It's just that often it's more a matter of nationality rather than race, but stereotypes are pretty common anyway. And just so we don't forget, a lot of European countries are complicit in the horrific abuses of the Lybian "government" against migrants.

Well, vaush I don't know. Jeff Bezos really earned those coconuts. If it wasn't voluntary, why wouldn't you just go another day without a coconut or make yourself a fishing rod or swim to another island and collect all those coconuts?
@RrRr-or5tw
@RrRr-or5tw 3 жыл бұрын
To make it realistic there would have to be some kids that also weren’t unconscious right after the crash so that Bezos could exploit their labour he only collected the first few to feed himself and then build his empire on those kids that he barely feeds enough to survive. And if you want a coconut well you have to provide your services because you don’t have any capital. In this more realistic scenario Bezos got his power through exploitation and the other options you suggested will probably lead to your death.
@randomthings1293
@randomthings1293 3 жыл бұрын
"Bezos" """"earned"""" those coconuts by waking up first, a process on which neither he nor the other stranded guy on the island had any control over. So how did "Bezos" REALLY *earn* the coconuts, exactly? Also, the amount of time during which the 2nd stranded guy should go without coconuts would be unfairly decided by "Bezos" and could be very well weeks or more instead of just "a day", and either making a fishing rod or swimming to another island have extremely little chance of success, plus the proponents of "free coconut holding" are NOT known for their championing of *guaranteed* universal education on fishing rods' fabrication or swimming techniques either. The 2nd stranded guy would be absolutely condemned with a 98+% chance *for a mere twist of fate* ("Bezos" waking up first). Unless he complies with a coercive action. Oh, look at that, the analogy PERFECTLY sums up the "free markets" philosophy...

As the world becomes increasingly complex and interconnected some people seek simple answers. Sadly politicians have taken advantage of this phenomenon to gain support. They oversimplfy issues, play the blame game, follow reductive ideologies (e.g. trickle down), and feed into people's fears and prejudices (e.g. culture wars). Meanwhile the real problems get worse and worse. Adam Curtis has made several films exploring this issue.

Now what if hypothetically there are other people on the island and the coconut hoarder offers to give them coconuts if they collect all the rocks and use them on anyone who disagrees with the system.

The coconut conundrum is a prefect encapsulation of value not being objective and people valuing things radically differently. He doesn’t care that you can throw back some serious Bussy, he want the suc and if he doesn’t get the suc no coconut.

Lets say you crash on a planetoid, you wake up after some time and see someones footprints. You follow them and find one other survivor, and apparently, as you were unconscious, they collected all the space coconuts, it is the only food source on the planetoid as it is literally a rock in space. The ship is broken and you cant repair it to escape. You ask the man for some space coconuts... and he smiles.
