I love what Hyundai has been doing lately. A lot of people who talk about Hyundai ripping Audi design, don't know that Peter Schreyer (a former Audi designer) helped create Kia\Genesis\Hyundai's current corporate design language. Also the N performance line (and the Kia Stinger) tuning team was headed Alan Beirman, the former head of BMW's M performance division. Hyundai is serious about their product and it now shows.

I gotta say, when looking at pics of just the i30/Elantra, it looks much bigger (almost like a crossover) than when there's someone standing next to it. With Ford leaving the passenger car market, I'd say the Veloster N, Elantra GT Sport (or N if that comes to the states), and the new Corolla hatchback (especially if Toyota ever decides to be a bro and release a turbocharged option) are looking to be my ideal hatchbacks of interest. Nice car and good video!

It's weird seeing America's version of this car. Here in Australia, this exact model is called the Hyundai SR Premium and you get way more features than this Elantra GT Sport. standard features of the SR Premium here in Australia include ventilated seats, panoramic roof, with a sunroof and a heated steering wheel and lane-keep assist/departure. I'm not aware of the US models so not too sure if these are options? I know it's little difference, but you get these extra features with the Australian model.

Thanks to your videos (and similar enthusiasm in other folks' videos) I just bought a used 2018 Sport. With the Tech Package, which includes the huge sunroof, heated/ cooled seats, upgraded speakers and more. The 2020 N-Lines with the Tech Pkg are almost impossible to find and the one dealer 120 miles away was only offering $200 off. So I tracked down a used one in silver, with a few scratches for over $12K less than a new GT. I sold my 2008 Shelby GT convertible for 20K on eBay and while I miss the prestige of that car (and all that power and sound), getting 35 mpg highway, having Bluetooth, Android Auto, back-up camera and all the tech stuff... I am more excited about my car than I have been in a long time. Only zonk I've found is no coin holder! Thanks Joe!

Love the execution on the headlights. For the price point (~$22k currently with the MT!), this is a great little hot hatch. IMO, 200hp is the perfect amount of power for a smaller car. The only ding is that the tech package option is only available with the DCT. For all of the desirable items that includes, the omission of the package with the MT is a really crappy move by Hyundai for those who like to row AND who want the nicer head unit, wireless phone charging, etc. Otherwise, this should be a must test drive for those looking at the GTI and Civic hatch sport.... and even the Civic SI.

7:11 that engine cover popped out to me earlier pictures, what the heck, especially because this car is about the engine (when comparing it to the other trim levels). It's even looks elevated from the video, like an atrocious plastic sneeze guard. Also, I agreed with the style suggestions individually (especially red calipers), but still it makes me think that kind of thought process for those cheap superficial changes when going by accountants lead to those appearance-only sport packages in the first place. It's much fiscally safer in the short run to do those things than to improve the suspension and shift logic, much less bring over a bigger engine for one car. At least until the long-term owner satisfaction and brand loyalty stacks up

One thing that is a deal breaker for me is the tablet style infotainment. God I can’t stand it! It’s not just Hyundai either. A lot of manufacturers do it and it just screams cost cutting and laziness. That may seem trivial but it really annoys the heck out of me.. it’s a shame cause other than that I really like this car. I think the Elantra Sport Sedan is just a notch nicer. If they brought over the i30N I’d have to seriously consider it. I REALLY want a Golf R but just can’t afford one. The i30N would be a great compromise, a bit more HP than the GTI, and still less expensive than a Golf R.

Quick question what Watch are you sporting on your wrist bro? love it. I have a 2018 Hyundai Tucson sport 1.6 turbo as my 2nd ride 1st ride being a 2015 Subaru Impreza Sport Premium, and for the money I can say that the (Hyundai) not much out there can touch it, 39,000 miles on it already (PA to NYC commute everyday) and other than having a low beam light blow which was (covered under warranty) it has been flawless, at least for our household. Vehicle is loaded and OTD price $26.500 and rides like a dream. As for this Elantra I think it is a very nice looking ride hence missing just a few key things, main one being a AWD version. I have been in the market to replace my 2015 subaru mainly because of high mileage (127.000 and climbing) car is super clean but just wanting something fresh, almost pulled the trigger on a 2019 WRX but going to hold off to see what 2020 brings. As always great review and feel Hyundai need to get some props for putting out some great, safe, reliable and affordable vehicles. Cheers :-)

@jjacob251016 жыл бұрын
What's that rattling noise while you were driving. Was it something in the door storage or other storage bins? A while back, if I could at the time, I would have bought a fully loaded Blue Elantra Sport Sedan, until I saw the Honda Civic Sport Hatchback. Great features, especially the DCT if you got for the auto, and all the design work for the drivetrain, suspension, appointments, exhaust, etc. Again, I agree with most if what you said. Engine cover looks cheap, the Hyundai logo still looks cheesy, but is actually two men shaking hands, a little known fact. The exhaust has lots of work to get the sound and performance, and I don't mind the sputters, buy don't like when they sound like the engine us misfiring, like many other exhausts systems. Maybe turbulence in the absence if smooth bend pipes. The door panels, especially at the arm rest look plastic and cheap with those contours. Zonks for no CD players on most all cars except Subaru, and I believe some others, like the Ford Edge ST and possibly other models. Few video reviews mention a CD player, or lack thereof. Some don't have an auxiliary audio input jack that would accommodate a portable CD player or digital audio recorder or iPod, etc., though the later probably can use the USB input. I plan to get a nice Roland R-07 portable digital recorder for my music creation projects, but forgot it has BT, and Monster (not the beverage company) has a 12v BT radio transmitter I could use if not the radio BT streaming. Also, unlike the Honda Civic Si, no LSD or torque vectoring like the Subarus. And I believe there is a pedal adapter kit available for the Si that I believe fits the Sport models and Type R if not already ideal heel toe position. Also, sone shifter kits fir the Si and Sports to shorten the throws and imptoved the feel. Other than that, still a great option if you like what it has, and more utility with the GT hatchback. Also, flat bottom steering wheels are nice, but if you push pull steer like sone of us, especially law enforcement types, and other professional drivers, the round steering wheel may be preferred. Also, the Subaru Forester Sport has the red/orange dashboard A/C vent trim. I remember the Elantra Sport Sedan interior bring similar to this and bring very nice.

What do you have in mind? I want an Elantra GT N!

Meh, for another $10k, I'd rather just get the newer domestic V8's.

Hyundai has Audi’s designer so that’s why you notice VW and Audi influenced.

201/275...HP...I'll tell you what...the first thing you do after you buy the car is rip off all the badges...if your lucky your neighbor's and friends will think it's a Toyota ..Regardless of how it operates. Their's that big...H..in the grill that makes a statement....I couldn't even afford a Chevy Malibu ...Do you get a bag of peanuts to feed the hamsters under the hood.....yea let's fire it up...sounds even cheaper. Like the muffler is about to fall off... Why don't they just put a big screen TV on the dash...lol...all that said...if it's a good car..It's a good car... But it makes a statement...and probably not the best one...sounds horrible. I want you to write my next job resume ..you could Make a Rock sound good...lol

You really think the car is that bad? Hyundai is doing some amazing things in the WRC. I guess sometimes I like the underdogs.

Chevy Malibu costs the same as the Hyundai i30 sport.

Raiti's Rides no not that bad. Just gives the owners a less then favorable image...Mabe after 3 corvettes I'm a snob...lol
