The Swiss Army knife analogy was perfect. It’s competition the Mazda 30 may drive better and be a little faster but lacks the storage room which I feel makes the Crosstrek the better car. This one looked more modern first IMO. Great review as usual Joe. Also one thing I would like you to add to your reviews is the oem stereos. No biggie if you don't because I know you don't care much about that. But when I bought my last two cars those were very important to me. That's about the only thing I would add. On limited trims like this one I'm thinking it may have a upgraded system with sub etc.. At the very least it might be worth mentioning how many speakers, power etc.. It does help many buyers.

I’ve driven the Crosstrek.. just last week actually I drove one. Love the car and will be getting one eventually, but I’m not a fan of all the tech in it. Just wish there was a little less tech in the car.. it’s kinda a turn off. 3 biggest things things that annoyed me with the vehicle, but doesn’t take away from my overall opinion of the vehicle. 1- Push button start. Can be a real pain in the ass if the fob breaks or battery goes dead in it. 2- Stop/start technology. That’s gotta be hard on both the engine and the starter. I can see that wearing out both quickly. Also find it a little unnerving when the car shuts off when you stop. Have that constant fear the vehicle won’t restart. And its just really annoying hearing it start up over and over again. 3- EyeSight Technology. Will never use it. Don’t trust technology enough to rely on it. I trust myself more than I trust that technology

Anyone picked up on the news from the Subaru CEO about the 2021 Crosstrek getting the 2.5L / 182HP engine in the Sport and Limited trims? Still, not a turbo, but I think those 30HP will make a difference considering the curb weight difference of the Crosstrek/XV vs the Forester and Outback fitted with the same engine. I briefly had the Crosstrek 2015 XV coming from a Forester 2008 XT and we were considering the standard Forester but with the same engine as the Crosstrek/XV (no 2.5L available here) it was too slow even for my wife. Compared to the XV the Forester felt even more sluggish. We later test drove a 2017 Forester XT and traded in the Crosstrek on the spot. Having owned two Outbacks with the 2.5L engine in the past I would be quite happy with it in the Crosstrek/XV. It would tip the scales for me. That said my biggest regret is selling my pristine 2008 XT, slightly tuned to around 265HP. Should have kept it.

Subaru is really missing the mark with the Crosstrek. I know alot of people ask about a turbo variant. But I think that Subaru in turn takes as that as a WRX version. When all people want is at least around 200hp in the Crosstrek. The reality of a WRX Crosstrek is a just dream or concept. Honestly if they would just shove the forester's 180hp it would make it SO MUCH BETTER to drive and much more capable. The other problem is Subaru has become too dependant of the cvt transmission. That needs to be revamped, or a new 6-7 speed auto introduced. That type of transmission alone across all of the vehicles that have the cvt right now. Would give Subaru the spark once again that they used to capitalize back in 2008 I think it was. That really have them their boom in the market.

The extended fender lips on the front wheel wells are designed so that way in order for the car to easily kind of swipe-away the excess force of the gushing wind that batters the front part of the car. The engine bay has room for a top mount intercooler and a turbo. Wish Subaru would consider something like that for his model.

Excelent reviews of the new trailblazer and subaru, liked it. look for a new suv AWD that Im gonna drive 98% on urban roads and highways, 2% off road. So which is better in your opinion - the new trailblazer activ Z or the subaru XV crostreck plus?

I agree with you on the two map pockets. Lots of automakers give you only one and it looks cheap.

It's the right package for me, but the CVT feels like a cross between a waterbed and a cluster of rubber bands. I ordered a Premium manual.

I love and hate the Crosstrek, I love the engine, the clean look, the safety standard, cargo space, (minor) offroad capability, practicarlity, if not the CVT and some minor gripes it could have been my No.1 go-anywhere car. I am looking for a 6-speed manual but it's very hard to find a stock one.

I'd zonk it solely for its lackluster power output. I mean seriously, 150 HP? That's f*****g terrible for a car that weighs like 250lbs more than an Impreza. It needs at least 180 HP IMHO.

I purchased a new Outback in 2017, had RAB and many electrical problems from the start. After only a couple of months I had the car in the deanship for repairs, . The dealer only deleted the PC history, did nothing to fix the problem, and does not supply the needed paperwork to prove I was there. This practice is still going on today. The service tech brags, "as long as I work here, no one will ever qualify for Lemon Law protection " Problems got MUCH worse. In for repair 10 + times, towed in 4 times. After contacting Subaru customers support, they said because the dealer refused to supply paperwork for your visits, they refused to refund my money for the Lemon they sold me. I could almost hear Subaru saying " GOT YA SUCKER " Car was traded in, because it would not work, still under warranty, still not fixed because they didn't know how to fix it. Lost well over $14,000 because Subaru does not stand behind their cars, or the customer.

The Crosstrek will have a small market, however, it is not very fast or exciting. I agree CVT's are good for gas mileage but can be slow and loud. We have a 17 for the last 36 months and will be waving bye-bye soon. Another great review - double take on the back seat around the 12 minute mark. Can you review the 20' Hyundai Ioniq?, Curious to see if it improved over the 2019. That one and the Mazda 3 are on the list now.
