This seems like a really nice basic, practical vehicle. Especially for a younger driver since it sits up high, has good visibility and doesn't hog up the whole lane.

Received mine 2 weeks ago. Lift 2in and 235's. I've driven slow and fast manuals my whole life. Including 4runner and FJ. Being honest my lady has the CVT same as my manual 2020 premium and it's like not driving at all in hers. 1 gear. It never swaps gears. Levers are fake to simulate it. The 1st Gen manual was bad. This gen is much better. Climbing mountains makes this the driver's car with manual. While CVT will put you to sleep or make you want to flip through your phone. Off the line I maintain with my ladies CVT. So I guess it's a difference in driving. I'm not saying it's a racer, it's not. But it's a driver's car where the CVT just isn't....

Compared to a CX-5 with a non-turbo 2.5 liter engine, the Crosstrek is slower and the steering is more numb, the CVT transmission might be less reliable, and the Crosstrek does have better brake feel. The new Mazda CX-30 is closer in size to the Crosstrek. Test drive all 3, especially if you want all wheel drive. Also test drive the new Prius with all wheel drive- Walmart sells a plastic traction mat to put on the ground, and long zip ties for more tire traction. Also go to a library every April and study the Consumer Reports magazine annual car guide. For older vehicles, the Carsthatlast series on KZbin is good.

The Forester is the CX-5 equivalent, not the Crosstrek. Very soon a hybrid Crosstrek is being released in some markets. Be interesting to see if that ups the power, as it does in most Toyota models.

I really really like the crosstrek, right size, capable in many road/off road conditions, good safety options, etc. However, I can’t get past the so-so CVT transmission and not looking for a manual ( my current car is manual and I love it but I’m ready to stop shifting). From what I’ve read, Subaru also seems to be living off its past quality ratings as current quality has slipped quite a bit. I’d consider rolling the dice on the quality if a regular automatic transmission was available.

But the auto Stop start will reset when you turn the car off. Its so annoying it's only used to comply with emissions it does not save any fuel unless the traffic is horrible and you are stopped for more than 4minutes at a time. Then the wear on starter components is horrible.
@Sirgromulus5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Many (most) new cars seem to have this "feature". At least the Crosstrek and newly redesigned (2019/2020) Forester have a separate switch to deactivate. I use it every time I get into the car! The upper level Outback trims withe the large screen have it buried in the infotainment system menu (along with most HVAC and even X-Mode controls).

We don’t have the option of a manual transmission (my preference). I much prefer my 2019 model without this feature.

NoPreset SnarkLimit no source just anecdotes. Recently saw one video from that channel with Roman and his bald sidekick doing a rock hill climb in a Kona awd. The dual clutch kept overheating as it struggled. Xmode in the crosstrek struggled at first but conquered it. The fact that thr crosstrek has almost 9” clearance stock is awesome. With a mild lift kit it can be a formidable rock climber. All these other competitors seem to have front biased systems which just doesn’t cut it.
