Just updating, we went for our first real ride last weekend since we finally have both and this machine is AMAZING. I'm a total novice and this thing was so easy to maneuver, rocks, logs, water, straddling a pretty deep washout on a good incline/decline... it really took care of me the whole time. Super fun!
@georgedouglas93422 жыл бұрын
Nice vid.... I have a polaris 500 ho that's a towing, log dragging dozer! I built a trailer specifically to pull behind it through woods, etc. It's twice the size as the one in the video and I fill it with firewood and tow it with no problem. Hills greatly effect ANY machine towing ANY trailer off road. The polaris is more a "utility " vehicle but does well on trails, although not as nimble as other makes.

Thanks for the video! There aren't too many videos actually showing the Grizzly towing or pulling something. The Ultramatic CVT transmission with it's engine braking must be so nice going down steep hills with a heavy load. That trailer looks to be well designed for rough terrain and the dump feature must be handy. Do you ever carry a chain saw, and if so how are you carrying it?
@ThomperBeThompin2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind comment! Yeah the ultramatic CVT really is something else, I love it. I do in fact carry a couple saws and already have a video planned out, spoiler alert. I hope to get that video done in the next month or so.

I’ve been watching some Yamaha vids and a few folks advised that the Kodak has more low end torque for work/utility and that it’s tuned to low MPH use. Overall, I think they are advising it’s a better work rig than the Grizzly especially when it comes to long term maintenance. I know nothing about quads but I recently purchased 5 acres with lots of slope and I want to buy a tow behind brush cutter for blackberry mowing. Any advice? Thx for the great vid!
@ThomperBeThompin Жыл бұрын
You can't go wrong with a Kodiak 700. It doesn't have more torque but its clutch system is set up to engage at a lower RPM which is better for towing around trailers and stuff. The Kodiak 700 will be low maintenance and should be an outstanding machine for you out there. If you're going to be in a lot of brush and off trail situations, then consider upgrading to some heavier duty tires. You'll have a higher risk of puncture with the stock ones, otherwise the quad is great right out of the box

The we have had a kodiak 700 on demo and in every way it is superior to our 570 outlander. Steers better, far more manoeuvrable in tight spaces and easier to back a trailer. Just as comfortable as the canam. More stable and certainly more engaging. Quieter and Considerably better on fuel.

@waynejohnson9855 Жыл бұрын
@@stoweman34 not if you need to pull much weight I had a 5x8 utility trailer and with a1/3 of a cord of wood I couldn’t make small hills but that weight is 3 times more than my atv without weight they will climb steep hills easily and maybe with a smaller trailer they would pull 1/3 of what I was. No atv of any brand would be good for what I tried.

I cannot confirm concretely whether they fixed it entirely, but I've heard there are improvements. If I'm not mistaken my air filter came with some rim Grease to help make a better seal. It still has the AIS issue though and mine backfires if I chop the throttle and don't roll off.

I have the 2018 Grizzly, the one that came with a Suzuki engine and that used oil from the very beginning when it was new. Why the hell Yamaha put a Suzuki engine in the 700 Grizzly for a couple of years is beyond me. Anyway I had the warranty work done on the engine and all is well ??!? At any rate I am very satisfied with my machine. Runs and performs very well. I have 2500 miles on mine and she keeps on purring.
@ThomperBeThompin Жыл бұрын
I'm glad to hear you're getting reliable usage out of your 2018! I've never driven one with the 708cc engine, but I hear they were pretty powerful. I think it was actually made by Subaru, not Suzuki. Have you driven the 686 cc grizzly? Curious to hear how you would compare the engine performance.

Kodiak will be all you need a very capable machine.
@ThomperBeThompin Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, I agree with @jameshogg601, the Kodiak is more than enough! The clutching on the Kodiaks is tuned for better utility work. Meaning, it has lighter weights so it will take off at a lower RPM and be smoother for hauling and towing. Same engine too. I would only consider the grizzly if you intend on also doing some spirited trail riding, but then, the Kodiak will still do well at that too.
