The V8 is back in the Lexus IS and we have to say, we liked it a lot more than we expected. It’s quicker to 60 mph than a TLX Type S and Q50 Red Sport, plus that V8 noise is just perfection. We also liked the $56,500 base price but fully loaded at $67k is a bit steep. Still, we’re glad Lexus decided to give us a V8 again! Hey Sofyan, picked up my 2022 IS 500 Premium on Friday and driving it the 800 miles back home! 1. Unlike your tester, mine came with the upgraded Mark Levinson sound system, a moonroof, and memory seats. 2. After 500 miles, I can report the brake pedal is kinda soft. It’s fine, but definitely softer than my 2016 IS 350 FSport. The interior has been around, it’s like sitting in my 2016, but not. It’s weird how it can be both. Basically it’s quite comfortable and very functional. No need for over the top ambient lighting or an overly large touch screen. IMO 3. There is a difference in drive modes, like Jekyll & Hyde difference. I suspect Lexus reviewed the videos of you and a few others, and made adjustments to the transmission’s software mapping. On the highway, NORMAL mode is freaking terrible for a driving enthusiast. The handling and the responsiveness is way too lazy. For long highway trips, I say SPORT mode is best. The car literally wakes up and you’re like: “Okay…this is the business, now I’m driving a sports car!” The RPMs are just a smidge higher, the gas mileage is the same, and the comfort is still Lexus. Just easier to modulate speed and direct the car. In SPORT+ (on long trips) the steering is way too heavy and the rest of the car is too firm. In the city however, it’s Sport+ all day, every day for me! 😂 I knew your review was spot-on, so glad I was able to see it before getting mine. Keep up the great work!

C&D weighed the IS500 at 3980 lbs so the weight is not much different. A lot of misleading things in the video. RCF is a track oriented F car and it has a lot of track hardware that the IS500 F-Sport does not have. The "frankenstein" chassis was created for track performance so it has a much higher rigidity quotient than the the IS (which is why Lexus did not use the IS chassis). RCF has a much stiffer suspension/chassis setup, better brakes, better wheels/tires, better cooling systems and much better seats with available carbon fiber/TVD. That is why it costs much more.
@rousseau3273 жыл бұрын
The reason that Lexus gave for the frankenstein chassis is a load of crap. This gen's IS platform was one of the best driving platforms of its class when it came out in the 2014 MY, it surprised many reviewers.
@2ZZGE1003 жыл бұрын
@@rousseau327 No, it was great when comparing to A4 or C-class etc., bur IS chassis was simply not good enough for an M4 competitor class. Yaguchi himself said hr did not want to use the IS chassis because the core was not stiff enough and the the much stiffer IS-C middle was used while 3IS was used just for the rear compact dimensions. RCF chassis was built for GT3 racing homologation where RCF GT3 win races and the IS chassis was simply not stiff and wide enough. Lexus put a ton of work to achieve a much higher rigidity chassis and anyone can tell driving them back to back. Not to mention it could not fit the V8 and the nose had to be elongated on the IS500 by 2 inches and the engine hangs more aft of the front axle. Also, the RCF chassis has 40% higher rigidity quotient than the IS chassis has. The IS chassis is relatively flimsy pushing at the ljmits by comparison and it is a fact. Car and driver called that. Not me. That is why RCF pulls 0.98g in lateral grip tests a and IS is nowhere close.

@@Eric_In_SF you make some strong comments here but actually there is already major change happening in the industry and governments as well as automakers are both moving quickly in this direction. California has set 2035 deadline for all new vehicle sales to be electric only. Washington state set a more aggressive deadline for 2030. Car manufacturers are creating electric vehicles for every segment including big trucks like the new Ford Lighting. Finally range anxiety for EVs will no longer be a problem in the next decade as battery makers have found a way to make a battery last 10 years or 1 million miles without a single charge. It is estimated that 58% of all new vehicles sales will be EVs by 2040. By that time, it will be impossible to buy a car with a natural aspirated V8. The thing is those are not enough for F. You need to add AT Cooler and Engine Oil cooler which both GS F and RC F have and then the TVD as well, all those plus body parts = mega price hike, that will shoot up to 75-80K, and it will be an insane rip off. But here you get the front suspension from GS F with AL Forged parts and the Yamaha Performance Dampers in the rear and the Aisin AA80E which is same as GS F and IS F. Finally the sales of IS are 20K in USA, the IS 500 in 2022 was marked up by 7-10K insane now we can get it at MSRP and it's already selling a lot, Lexus just want to give it a send off, I think 2025 might be last year for the NA V8 from Lexus. LC 500 will be replaced by the Lexus EV Supercar and RC F may get discontinued entirely, GX already lost V8 in 2023, IS 500 will also be gone marking the end of an era.

It is not actually lighter than the RCF and RCF all of the extra track hardware. It is softer and compliant. RCF has a heavier steering, which is why it feels heavier, but it is much better for high speed turning on the track as far as making corrections and confidence. IS500 F-Sport weighed in 3980 lbs and RCF is around 20 lbs more. Basically, an IS350 with the RCF V8, but RCF is way more nimble and more agile on the race track. I took a ride in the IS500 F-Sport on the track with Townsend and drove an RCF on the race track. You can immediately see the difference between a proper F car and the F-Sport. Your tester does have the Mark Levinson sound system in it. See ML logo @8:00 right above the gear shift.
@paulira74073 жыл бұрын
I think he said the base version doesn’t have the Levinson sound system while the premium version of the IS 500 has that included which is the model he was testing.
@MarC-ot5gl3 жыл бұрын
This might sound like a dumb question but you say your tester didn't have the Mark Levinson system yet at 7:22 of your video, you see the typical white knobs associated with the ML system, and when you look closer at the name plate below the CD player (just up from the seat warmer buttons), you can see the lettering of the ML - Am I missing something?

Please stop saying the Lexus has fake engine noise! It's just amplification of the induction noise, and people can dial it down if they want to keep it quieter. It's different to other manufacturers that purely pump in synthesized fake engine noise.

I owned a 2010 C63. It was a fun car with a beautiful engine. And the AMG “track” treatment was garabage, though. Brakes felt fine. Transmission had the delay of a Rav4. And when they took us to the AMG academy, the car overheated in just a couple of laps. It was a brute that had couldnt handle the track.

Why everyone keep saying v8 is dying or end of an era? The v8 is going no where most people don’t want no dammm electric car. They take forever to charge up and they don’t give off that sporty feeling that u get from v8s. Do y’all realize if the remove the v8s their entire fan base will be gone and they would also have to remove the v6 and 4cyclinder. So would y’all stop saying that Trash. Every time y’all say that on video it allows other people to think the same way and eventually these companies are gonna be like since everyone is thinking it we mind as well do it, knowing dammm well ain’t nobody want no dammm electric car. Ain’t no company has publicly came out and said we removing the v8.
