Is the 2022 Memorial Sovereign worth buying?

The Royal Mint has released a second set of 2022 sovereigns to commemorate and act as a memorial for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The mintages are high but are they still worth buying?

Very nice info, I am an American, and learned a lot. I love British coins, Silver, Gold, and some Platinum. I have a few Sovereigns, and am waiting on the 2022 Memorial one. I think it will be special. For me, Sovereigns always remind me of Sherlock Holmes. I knew it was money, but never understood it when I was younger. Now, I know how much he was really charging people! I know it was fiction, but it was realistic.

Personally i think the memorial sovereign is a lot more impressive than the jubilee sovereign, think they both will do well over time.

So , I would say the jubilee sovereign will do better over time.. as it's the last QE II , and when the first Charles III sovereign comes out ... I'm expecting the "memorial sovereign to be firmly in 3rd place ..... plus reading comments .. the few that have taken delivery have issues with quality .... lets have a vote .1) scrap the R.M in wales and find a place in London with new staff and management in every department! ... or 2 ) just replace most of the staff in R.M Wales ... ? If mine turns up with issues ... it's a refund

They shouldn't be minting coins with Charles' portrait until his coronation year. All 2022 UK coins should bear the Queen's potrait... Why they broke this tradition?

They minted 1837 coins with Victoria portrait as patterns or proofs of record

@@Numistacker Yes, there are also patterns with EdVIII portrait and name and such, as you surely know, but they are just patterns, not issued coins. I must agree with Dean, it does look as greed on behalf of the Royal Mint.

My collection is all over the place. I have many memorial coins and rounds from 2022 with the queen on them from still and former common wealth countries as well the royal mint. My favorite from the mint being the 10 oz queens coat of arms for display purposes and from foreign countries I adore the vivat humanitas tokelau 1 oz gold coin. Most coins regard the queens passing in gold and silver as well a charles 2023 gold sovereign as I feel that is his truly his first year alone as sovereign.

Hi Donald, I had to crank my volume up to max. I'm currently gathering up extra silver coins and non-10oz bars to exchange for gold. I just got the 2008 Vancouver 2010 Maple gold 1oz Maple.

I have picked up proofs at spot . The number of them produced compared the number of real collectors makes them a poor investment. Unless your willing to wait 100 years.

That will never apply to the special years and recently even if a proof is impaired and sold as Pullian it will pretty much never be sold on at spot. If you see any 2022 at spot let me know

For me, you need both the platinum jubilee coins and the memorial sovereigns. In my opinion, together, they will look fabulous so sadly you can't really choose one

I think the same I have the ½ platinum jubilee in pf70 UC and I'm waiting for the memorial half to get delivered and then off to numi for grading hopefully I will end up with the 2 in a 70 they are the only two coins in gold that are proofs I normally just buy bullion coins when it comes to gold I did used to buy all the silver proof coins but I quickly realised that for 1 proof I could get a half sovereign so I only really buy now if I really like the coin I think every collector starts like that until you get an idea of what it is we actually want to collect if you get my point 👍

A so-called "memorial sovereign", but a memorial to what or whom? There is nothing on this coin to tell us, and surely if it was issued as a memorial to the late Queen it should bear her portrait, and not that of the King. Seems all very odd to me, and a mis-nomer if ever there was one.

BTW, I do not care for what seems to be coming in bigger measure - the Mint Marque program. So now the "ordinary" customer will likely be left further and further behind...

Not especially asked but I would say a decent design, but way too many issues in general and this would include the sovereigns which have thereby lost my interest. Even the Britannias have been expanded to far past the types and issues that would be decent.

The sovereigns tend to be minted well technically. Britannias are probably better than ever though a little too expensive from the mint

You are not remotely interested in what you were actually watching. Why not ask if this was how it was sent in by a customer? As it happens this coin achieved a 70 and I guess static attracted some lint to a flip. You do not know what you were watching is my point. You jumped to conclusions. At least the coin was not scratched to oblivion as was the case for a coin packed by one of your buddies for delivery to a customer.

I'm glad that I'm not a sovereign collector and only stack bullion sovereigns especially with the inflated prices involved with these sets. The jubilee sovereign is in my opinion the better of the two coins.

I think 2023 will just have the one sovereign, a celebration/coronation sovereign. To much back log already. They have struggled to get the memorial one out…still struggling in fact.

The reverse feels a little too busy in the flesh. I think the platinum sovereign was absolutely stunning because of its simplicity. Undoubtedly anything with Charles on is historic and the market should be quite buoyant for these sets. Particularly keen on the matte versions.
