I think it's cool to bring back the Lightning name this Platinum trim in black is super slick. The truck is neat and formal. I've heard mixed reviews about the towing but it is what it is. Thanks to Steven for the camera work 👍👍

Met an Amazon driver driving the new rivian ev van. He told me he puts 150mi a day on that van, interior fan on all day, heated seats and it lasts the whole day. Not bad. 150mi a day is quite alot.

People looking at the price point saying it's too much but this is the top trim. Limited or SV I'm sure would fall in the 70K ball park which is an investment. Going EV is a no brainer saving you financially long term talking pennies on the dollar vs gas

For the shopping mall parking lot duty that is the roughest use 95% of light trucks see, this will be fine. I think Ford has done a great job of building a truck that appeals to nontraditional "truck people". For the first time in my life, I find myself considering owning a truck as a third vehicle. It was a far more appealing product in 2022, before they removed features like the heated steering wheel, and raised the price 20%.

When it comes to range with towing. This truck is awful since it gets between 90 and 200 miles for towing. I think my favorite feature of this truck is the front trunk on it.

Joe, you know that wide spread adoption of electric vehicles in their current form isn't economically feasible right? The minerals needed for batteries alone would take decades to mine, even if we could find enough. A completely different battery system may be the answer, but I have only heard rumors of such things.

I'm a 2000 SVT Lightning owner and I do luv the '23 Tux Black Lightning except I'm very disappointed that Ford doesn't offer it as a Supercab (nevermind Reg Cab). 3.9 to 60mph is impressive for a 3.5 ton tank! But my old 2000 also rumbles so much more sweeter😛 Also, I have to be honest that the ongoing price increases have put it out of reach for us average guys!

Unfortunately, for the price, Ford seems to be cheaping out on a lot of the options. No massaging seats, they should’ve done a better job in the back. The grill sadly, it’s just awful, it’s not an attractive truck like some of the limited F250s. 100,000+ the absurd mark up stickers, the range isn’t very good, you can’t take it off road, and can’t tow very much. It’s basically a keeping up with the Joneses F150.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you log onto Ford's site and configure a supercrew 5.5 bed regular F150 (like the lightning is), the best you can get is $44k before tax. And that's XL trim, no options, base 3.3 flex-fuel stop-start V6, and 2x4. Spring for 4x4 and you're at $47k. If you qualify for the tax credit it's pretty darn close. And if your state waives sales tax on vehicles of a certain efficiency, or you try to feature-match then it's right there, if not cheaper. Personally I think base level trucks are both in too little supply and have too many features as is. But majority of people seem to want the extras because it's their commuter/family vehicle and not a work vehicle. And so the price goes up.

Ford is doing a great job with their EVs. During the last quarter of 2022. The Mustang Mach E was outselling the dated S550 by 8 to 1. Ford has also become the number two EV producer in the US just behind Tesla. Nice job Ford and nice review Joe with your lightning review. I've seen some local contractors using these trucks to power their saws and other electric tools on job sites. A fantastic overall built Ford EV truck. For me personally. The Ford F150 Lightning is an easy choice

For now, yes Ford lighting is better because technically it's available and on some dealer lots. Likely over MSRP. Nevertheless, it's available. Would be good to hold off until next Gen EV's.

Everyone was waiting for this truck, for sure. Ford raised prices quite a bit for 2023. The line is still there, but it could be shrinking. I am possibly coming up early this year to buy, but if i stay with a truck, I may be staying with an ICE truck.

@@DonC23 I saw the Silverado last year at the GM Solutions Summit and was impressed by fit-finish quality and the styling, well sorted to me. Supposedly the Chevy will perform better and that's yet to be seen. I'm a little disappointed in the Lightnings in my fleet, towing is not as advertised from my experience

The Chevrolet might have been better, if it had a 9.6 kwh built in power inverters. This feature really stands out during a home power failure. The ride is equal to any luxury vehicle, more power and speed than I'll ever need. And it will tow any of my trailers. Compared to the 2014 F150 that I traded in on this , the economy is great. I got around 12 mpg with it but towing my loaded trailers I was lucky to get 8 mpg. I think people forget that their ICE vehicles also lost mileage when towing. I believe the best way to compare the two, would be to put the amount of gasoline in the ICE vehicle that the electric cost to fill the lightning and see who could tow the farthest. Ie. It cost a little over $9 to fully charge my lightning in the winter. Even at just 1 mile per kwh I could tow 131 miles to empty. Even with gas at just $3 a gallon that's nearly 44 mpge. I don't know of any ICE vehicle that can get that kind of mileage range when towing. Long distance anything the lightning isn't for you. Just my opinion, I purchased it for local use only, and will seldom charge at a public charging station.

Unsure what the issue with the name, this is their high performance line, and EVs still out perform ICE powered trucks/cars. I'm personally excited to see how folks upgrade these over time with better batteries and chargers. Something not really possible in older cars, but EVs can get mods to change battery packs, BMC units and chargers. What would take an engine replacement and massive modifications won't be the case going forward.

I'm gonna miss that v8 roar but I still love EV's as well. I tried really hard to find a way to make them sound good but you just can't do it without wasting power and sounding fake. I think people will just have to embrace the quiet, and maybe own an old corvette or something to take out on the weekend when they want that blast from the past roaring v8 sound. That's my plan anyway. Go EV on the truck and try to some day just get like an old c6 or c7 vette to take me back to better days :) Until they ban them entirely lol
